Not to mention I'm pretty sure that we're not allowed to double dip alert tours anymore.

You absolutely can double dip with alert tours, or any other military orders for that matter. You must be in some sort of a civilian leave status, however, to get paid for both civilian and a full day of military orders. Same with inactive military training period if it encompasses part of your civilian normally scheduled duty hours

What you can't do any more is the famous "three for ones."

  2. True true Rainman. Unfortunately, there are many fighter guardsman finding this out the hard way and I don't see this getting any better. With Active Duty running a shortage on fighters, those "ANG Assets" are just too tempting not to take!

If the AD is so interested in taking fighters from the Guard why did they just recently give them Block 50s and 40s? They could have just kept those jets.

  3. XL, like everything in life, will be what you make of it.

Good luck. Don't fuck it up.

Applies so much to UPT. To this day I hear people talk about how much Vance/Enid sucks. I (and most of the guys in my class) had an awesome time and I know that if I had the same class at any of the UPT bases I would say the exact same thing.

  4. For those that have gone through the actual training already, would a pc sim have any value as far as practicing procedures and running checklists go? I would think that it would have an advantage over sitting in front of a poster when chair flying.

As a lot of guys have already said... Once you get into Phase I and get checked out in the UTD you can go over and use those as much as you want. Even with no screen, the T-6 UTDs will give you a far better experience than a PC. You can flip all the switches and get your checklist flows down pat before you even get to the flight line. You'll be able to have all that crap memorized so you'll be able to just get it done instead of having to reference the pocket checklist every freaking step. Then, when you get closer to instruments, you can spend a bunch of time shooting approaches.

Even at that, there is nothing cosmic about the T-6 (or T-38). After a few flights you'll be all spun up.

  5. Whatever you do, don't get the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 8.1 Megapixel point & shoot. I bought it a few years ago and have been completely disappointed in it's photo quality in almost any condition.

  6. Is there an AFI or other reference used in SUPT for teaching standard radio phraseology to students that is available online? Danke...

When you show up and get your pubs, you'll get a set of the SQ standards and local guidelines that outlines basically everything you say on the radio, including talking with the RSU. When in doubt, <who you're talking to> <who you are> <what you want>

If you already know where you're going to UPT, you could get a copy from one of your bros. A lot of it may not make sense to you, but it's really not all that difficult.

  7. 1. Everything except furniture. Bookcase, bed & sheets, chairs, and things like that are included in the room. You can choose to have all or none of it removed.

    2. Bring your own

    3. Yes. A microwave is included in the room, though.

    4. No. A bowling alley and the club is all thats on base.

  8. For clarification:

By no means is visiting the only way to get an interview (and the converse is true as well, visiting does not mean you'll get an interview).

Being enlisted is going to help you out. Just make your packet as good as you can and keep at it.
