  1. Update - Downtown Aviation: Memphis

Last week me and a few other guys from work all went to Memphis to knock out our ATP. As advertised, their examiners are now charging $400 instead of the $300 they used to charge. That being said, this is still money well spent.

No one from my group took their checkride with Doc because he was out of town, instead we all flew with a lady named Karen. She has the right sight picture and not being guaranteed to fly with Doc should not dissuade you from going to Memphis. Everyone passed with no issues.

Cost directly correlates to your flight time + examiners fee. From my group we varied between around $1650 to $1850.

One final note, if you're still on the fence, I recommend you call today. They're scheduling people for next April now, so I'l let you math majors figure out how much time that leaves before the written tests start expiring.

    Cheers!

  2. Thread revival. I just picked up a pair of (issued) Belleville 693s.

First impression is that they are more comfortable than the 690s and have more of an athletic shoe feel. The tongue of the boot is somewhat thick but doesn't bother me. If you want to try something different from the 690 but still flight approved (that you can probably get your unit to pay for, they're only $40 more) I recommend the 693s.

Also, if you can't try a pair on and have to order them through supply, I recommend sizing up by 1/2 a size.

  3. Because the constitution was written by Christians, that included the words freedom from religion....oh wait, they didn't include that.

This is a bullshit platitude. Here's an example of the Supreme Court disagreeing with you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engel_v._Vitale. There are several others.

In all my years in the military, I don't specifically recall ever hearing the words 'Jesus' or 'Christ' in a military prayer (I'm sure it has happened, but if I can't remember it then it must not happen too often).

Heard it yesterday at a mass awards/promotion ceremony.

  4. I don't know why that pic reminded me of it...but during this last SOS class, our Flt/CC told us the higher ups decided to start using the "Lego Movie" as the leadership film they show midway through the course. Great direction we're headed in.

  5. I think it shows a profound lack of trust in your people if you automatically believe they won't do the right thing.

When I fly, I usually wear a baseball cap under my headset. Am I stupid enough to wear it outside of the airplane? Hell no. As soon as the squat switch in my ass opens up as I get out of my seat, the hat comes off. Shockingly, the hat even stays in my bag if I happen to have a VIP onboard. It's scary how smart I am sometimes.

I wish everyone was as smart as you, like the idiot who decided it was probably a good idea to wear his baseball hat when flying with the AFCENT/CC. You know what that earned us? AFCENT/CC guidance on the wear of baseball hats: don't do it ever.

I also like to believe that most of us have the SA to know what is and isn't appropriate, but there always seems to be an idiot out there ready to ruin it for everyone.

  6. only problem is, that exact procedure gets you killed in the MC-12 when you are in a climbing left turning stall.......

The MC-12 community flat out does not understand VMCA period dot. I have heard some crazy theories about VMCA from IPs in this platform. It's something I brief the LTs I fly with.

  7. The irony is, all the leadership here at SOS keep going on about what a problem it is that capts are doing SOS in correspondence and in-residence. I guess it doesn't matter what they say if wings are going to keep stratting their eligibles based on correspondence being complete.

As long as the stated goal is 100% in-residence attendance, the strat list should be based 100% off time in grade (with the ability to heisman the guy who got a DUI).
