  1. I would say overcome by events at this point.

With respect to the deceased and his kind, I will defer to the sentiment to the so eloquently expressed by the band Dope (though they most certainly were not the first to have uttered the phrase): Die motherfucker, die motherfucker, die...

  2. At 4:29...

Laughed my ass off at that bit... Fuck "Soulja Boy"... He's a squirt of syphilitic dog jizz. I hope his career goes in the toilet and he has to make a living working a festering cum encrusted glory hole in the nastiest truck stop bathroom in South Louisiana.

  3. Wait, what?

    One's in.

    Cleared hot one, 6@7 four.

    Four.

    Two's base.

    One's off hot.

    Two's in.

Cleared hot two, Booya shack one.

    One.

    Booooyaaa!

What does that do, does that blow your mind? That just happened!

    Booya!

You could say that 10,000 times, and it still wouldn't be enough.

    It fires me up, man.

  4. If you're not ready for a checkride EVERY time you step, you probably shouldn't step in the first place. I don't get these guys who have to feverishly prepare for a checkride... isn't it your JOB to be as goos as you can be at all times?

Really? So if you haven't flown an NDB in a few months and you're about to get evaluated on one, you don't think it's good technique to brush up on it? What about deployments, where there are events that you simply can't get? You should just jump right into an evaluation the day you get back from CTO, right? Skills are perishable, particularly for the new guys.

  5. Quote from the AF Times forum that is actually an answer to the original question in this thread:

"The Air Force is almost half the size it was during Desert Storm. We are flying aircraft with an average age of 30 years.

We can't seem to get a new tanker...even when we try we hose it all up.

The previous Sec Def fired our leaders and claimed getting ISR out of us was like "pulling teeth."

Our personnel and finance systems have been decimated through force reductions to pay for a fighter jet that right now can't even fly. As a result folks are pretty much on their own - I once personally had a troop that was not paid for over 5 MONTHS (I was completely embarrassed for myself and my peers because the stripes I wear could do nothing to fix it).

I have troops leaving a career field with a 6.5 SRB ($90,000 for a 6 year reup) despite the economy because of the AF insanity. A few have tried to leave for THE ARMY and were turned down because of our cronic critical status.. Maybe you could insinuate I'm one of the reasons they are leaving...but I would laugh at you, and I would hazard a guess most of my troops would as well. JMO though.

We have been filling Army deployments in a flammable uniform with several different collar boot variations because we can't even figure out uniform requirements.

My list is endless. The Air Force is broke...and I have no problem admitting it. "

Well said, and I thought it was becuase I wasn't wearing my uniform correctly...

  6. Your experiences are not my experiences are not Bergman's, etc.

I was fully qualified in my airframe as a 2Lt. I started AC upgrade as a 1Lt. BFD.

All this bitching in the thread is rather useless when you show 1) how ######ing green you are when you aren't even four years in (to pin on Capt); 2) you don't even follow your own "kick someone in the junk for losing focus."

Should you do the master's and check the box? Yes.

Should you do it as a Lt or even a young Capt? No.

This is what people like Rainman are talking about when they say stiff-arm the bullshit and BFM the rules. Here's a ######ing cluebird for you: even in places where the asskissers seem to be ahead, if you keep your head down and do shit hot at your primary job and don't slack on whatever shitty secondary duty (or duties) you have, you will do well for the first several years and be that uber-awesome pilot/nav/whatever you wanted to be. Once you've built yourself that reputation, even early on in your career, it becomes the most effective shit-blocker you'll see for years.

Step 1) Be Johnny ######ing Bravo

    Step 2) ...

    Step 3) Profit!

I see, halo effect. How does that work out for you if you don't stay in the same community the rest of your career? It doesn't. The real bottom line is, do well (work hard) at whatever your job is wherever you go. There's not a damn thing you can do about the politics and the ass kissers.

  7. If you're getting butthurt about getting made fun of for tuna jokes, you have a long and painful career ahead of you. I strongly suggest you grow a thicker skin.

Also the fact that you allegedly "rocked" your solo doesn't count for shit. Not in UPT, not ever. You are EXPECTED to be a good pilot, I don't care if you're a UPT stud or a gray beard IP. If you fall short of the excellence that is expected of you that's a whole different matter, but "rocking" a flight is never a good defense against buffoonery and clownism.

Carry your tool with pride. Display it when it is appropriate, conceal it when necessary. Don't assume everyone wants to see it, but don't be shy to wave it around either. Wait.... wat?

There it is. I can't believe it took almost a page for someone to express the hard truth.

    1. You are a student, you WILL fuck up.

    2. When you are a CO/wingman you WILL fuck up.

    3. Your job is to learn when 1 and 2 happen.

    4. Grow some thick skin and learn to laugh at yourself.

    5. Don't waive your tool around in public.

All of the above are from personal experience (except the wingman part).

  8. Truly ironic statement here. The ones who are willing to put up with the BS for 20 years are generally the ones who create all the BS. It's a self-licking ice cream cone.

I think it's the O-6s and above and E-9s. I don’t think most that do 20 and get out have much of a say in the BS creation department.

One plus for me on this whole thing is that it has made me reexamine my reasons for sticking around and whether/how long I would stick it out if the magic number of 20 lost its meaning. The fact of the matter is that there is nothing I wanted to do more than serve and I still can't think of anything I could do with my life that would give me more satisfaction. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm still having fun on the whole (STS) in spite of a lot of the bullshit. Maybe it has something to do with my multiple (including a fairly recent) career changes within the military. To be completely honest I am fed up with a lot of the bullshit. I’m so fed up that it makes me tired to even think about it. I do my share of the office work, but I don't focus on that (for now). As some have already said on here, I get off on being able to show up to work in the bag, step out to the plane and be one of the elite (relatively speaking). I dig that while most civilians are heading home from work, I'm headed in, and while they're getting ready for bed or already racked out I'm shooting AMP4 approaches. I’ve also tried to posture myself to do what I thought I would enjoy. I never went after a job or duty because I thought it would be good for my career.

So, yeah, I'm about to head out on my 8th deployment in a little over 12 years, the queep is getting worse, I'm tired of saying goodbye to the wife, I'm tired of them changing the rules on me. In the other column is the fun side of the job and the afore mentioned job satisfaction.

What's my point? I guess I get to put my money where my mouth is (was), but turns out it wasn't all about the retirement. And no, I'm NOT trying to tell anyone else they should stick around. It works me. Fuckem if they can't take a joke.

  9. The real reason is that it pissed off the shoes that we were different. It feeds their inferiority complex. What sucks is that the supposed flyers in charge let them get away with it.

At least when you close the hatch you're still in a shoe free environment (for the most part)... There, I can push up my sleeves, wear whatever-the-fuck kind of sunglasses I want... Hell, I can even wear my favorite hat and those fuckers can't do a goddamn thing about it...at least for the duration of that sortie. That ball-cap has seen more combat sorties than these douche canoes ever will...

  10. He is West Point.

I imagine his orders were much like ROTC going on PDT, to/from field training, or something in which drinking (even when over 21) is forbidden.

Service Academy Cadets are basically on AD. As for not being able to drink while traveling, that must be a new one... Well, newer... You could do it 12 years ago is what I'm saying...

  11. Just to add to the clarification (because I got this question when discussing the matter with some of my squadronmates), you potentially meet up to 4 O-5 boards. 2 Below, BTZ, IPZ and APZ. When you talk about being passed over twice, you're talking about IPZ and APZ. Also, for those who are not aware, you can generally expect to meet your 2 below board around 2 years after pinning on (depending on when you pin). It came a lot quicker than I expected...

  12. You know, my Dad was the first person to tell me rank among LTs is like virtue among whores. Where/when did HE pick it up? In the late '60s as a 1Lt/Capt in the Army in Vietnam. This shit was around before that O-6 was in dipers.

  13. I'm a resident but will heading down range pretty shortly...

Oh, and I already fucking googled it. Read the FL statutes, read random comments from random people, read bad and good advice. Got on the relevant FL websites. I know what’s possible, but I’m looking for personal experiences from our community.

  14. Thread revival from hell: Anyone know what the penalty in FL is for ~30 over the speed limit?

There was an extenuating circumstance: I was driving along minding my own business when a redneck in a 90s blazer came along side me (on a 2 lane road, mind you), and started yelling and trying to run me off the road. Though I was armed, I decided it was better to avoid the confrontation and accelerated away. About the time I let off the throttle a cop appeared heading the other direction. I actually flagged him down (he didn't put his lights on), pulled over (as did the redneck) and told him the story. His response was to give me and the redneck a ticket and let me leave first.

Assuming the court may not give a shit about the situation, does anyone have any experience with a ticket for this kind of speed (58 in a 25...not a construction or school zone)?

  15. Don't they say the most dangerous dudes are the 500-1000 hour folks?

I've heard a similar statistic, though never seen concrete support. The key idea, I think, is that there's a point where a pilot starts to become comfortable and complacent but is not quite as skilled/proficient as he thinks he is. As for the IPs/EPs, correlation doesn't imply causation, but again complacency/over confidence is probably a factor.

  16. I think that's the judgment call and it apparently has been made in the affirmative. I probably would have been inclined to release the pics, but then again we saw all the violence caused by the Danish cartoon or the Koran burning shennanigans.

To me, it seems like a lot of the more radical Muslims out there get their panties in a wad easily and believe "being offended" means "rampage through the streets and kill people and break shit," so if there is a genuine belief that releasing the photos would cause more violence directed at U.S. forces and personnel then I guess it's the right decision.

See, that's the deal. If they're more radical Muslims aren't they already predisposed to get into the fight against us. Make no mistake, UBL was not their prophet or anything that should be put on the same level as their (all Muslims) holy book. Those who would be offended by pix of his death probably already don't like us. So, I definitely lean the other direction on the issue, but "the boss" didn't call me to ask my opinion, so I suppose that's a moot point.

  17. "We don't need to spike the football. And I think that, given the graphic nature of these photos, it would create some national security risk." Think that sums it up.

I suppose the question is: would the photos inflame folks that would otherwise not take up arms against us? As for those that already wish us harm, I would think if they COULD do more to harm us they WOULD regardless of whether we published the photos or not. I have my doubts about the former. The latter I'm pretty confident about.
