Why?  Unless you just want to make O-6…which is as good of a reason as any I guess.  But then I would have to ask why you would want to make O-6 and literally be a volunteer for any assignment.

    To make O-6.

I’m in AFRC and have about 5k people beneath me at a major airline. I can decline any assignment and there are very few assignments I would take. I’m just still having a hell of a lot of fun flying fighters.

Hey guys, I have a very specific question for the peanut gallery; it only applies to Reserve AGR flyers so if you're not one you can scroll on.

BACKGROUND: I had significant difficulties getting my orders extended to 20 despite having been granted career status (another long story) that led to my being unable to apply for AvB under the FY20 bonus before midnight 30 Sept.  Therefore, I won't be able to sign the FY21 bonus until it comes out in (I'm being told) June of '21.  On the reserve side, my airframe has achieved excellent manning levels (AGR), therefore I anticipate between that and the airline situation, the bonus is going away for me in '21.  This means that because of delays caused by ARPC I am liable to lose out on $140K worth of bonus, all due to bureaucratic incompetence.

GET TO THE POINT: (Again, Reserve AGR Only) Does anyone know of any circumstances in which a waiver for the bonus signup cutoff requirement was granted?  Has anyone lawyered up?  Do you think I should after exhausting all the normal lines of effort?  Just thought I'd ask the hive mind, this is a pretty huge bummer.

Texan, they have extended the FY20 bonus to 31 Dec.  Submit normally now.

  3. Any more bases recently get the approval to concealed carry on base?  Anyone have an idea which bases are actually allowing it these days?  So far I know of Dyess and Shady-J.  Who else?

For the record, I just want to be able to leave mine in my truck.  How many bases allow that but not carry in buildings?

Viper guys usually do not carry cell phones.

Most of us Luke guys do, especially since they told us the beacon and the radio may or may not work.....

It was also mandatory to fly with one at my last CAF squadron.

  5. If you were going to give a friend lessons to get his PPL, what ground school would you all recommend? i'm gonna go do a couple flights w a CFI to get the maneuvers down again, but I don't really have time to teach him ground school from scratch. Obviously I'll recommend SheppardAir for the written test prep, but you've still gotta learn the knowledge...esp for the PPL. King ground schools? Anything else?

Also, what have you all used for a syllabus when giving instruction?

  6. When my auto policy went up for renewal in March, USAA went up about $50/month (to almost $400/month for 3 cars including a 17 year old) for no reason at all (no accidents). Called Geico, and they were about $130/month cheaper. USAA couldn't match. I hated dumping USAA as we've always had great service, but when Geico's cost was 2/3 of USAA's, switching was a no-brainer.
