  1. Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure what "DoD Employees" covered.
  2. Question for FG: I know PTDY isn't paid but I ran across this which confused me. It seems to indicate that house hunting trips can be reimbursed and I read posts in other threads talking about being reimbursed per diem rates. 0607 HOUSEHUNTING TRIPS If authorized in their travel orders, DoD employees may make househunting trips, not to exceed 10 consecutive days. The employee and spouse can travel together or separately; however, the cost cannot exceed one round trip for travel together. The number of days househunting that the employee uses does not limit the number of days for the spouse, (i.e., the employee can take 4 consecutive days and the spouse could still use up to a total of 10 days.) Advances and payment for househunting trips are based on the prescribed per diem rate. http://comptroller.defense.gov/fmr/09/09arch/09_06.pdf

CU-Boulder Chancellor: Faculty Must Allow Students With Concealed-Carry Permits To Have Firearms In Class http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/22/cu-boulder-chancellor-peterson-guns-on-campus_n_1822550.html
  4. I'm currently weighing my options, the problem is McChord has privatized housing so if my wife goes up before me and gets a house on base I owe the housing company the McChord rate BAH ($1500) but I'll only be receiving $900 based on END. So that's why I asked about Toro's post about getting the BAH started when his family arrived. 1st actual PCS (base to base) and this is becoming more evident by the day.
  5. Yes but my BAH allotment will still be paid off of END's Rate whereas McChord's BAH is $500 more, not looking to pay that out of pocket.
  6. Update to my previous post. I found this in the AFI 32-6001: FAMILY HOUSING MANAGEMENT: 3.3.3. A family member, with a POA duly executed by the member, may apply for and be assigned housing at the gaining installation when the member departs an accompanied tour and performs temporary duty (TDY) enroute to the PCS location. So how would I go about getting my BAH for that the gaining location, since what I read in the JFTR states that BAH only starts once I arrive at the base. I found Toro's post earlier in this thread about talking to someone at AFPC, is there another way to go about it?
  7. Looking to see if there is any work around to this. Going to Altus and then McChord and I'm looking to send my wife ahead to get job, but housing is telling me we can't get a house until I in-process there.
  8. The faces of the crowd says it all. Sound pretty close to the butchering of the Anthem by Tops in Blue I heard last week.
  9. I hope to god, he didn't choose to wear that. My questions is where are the E-9s flipping sh*t over an unapproved uniform?

Valid point, whether it is the 1911 or another manufacturer I'm glad just to see the return to the .45. The article did mention (I have no direct knowledge of if it is true) that many Spec. Ops. communities have been using the 1911, may have been a contributing factor towards the model chosen.

Curious as to why you would say you don't think it is a good idea. I can see logistical problems with it if your squad is the only one at the FOB with 1911s and also in firefights ammo wouldn't be as interchangeable (but then again I would think you are in some serious sh*t if you are worrying about compatibility of sidearm ammunition). I've never really heard anything good about the beretta, always heard it lacked the stopping power. Yet I've always heard great things about the 1911, especially from those who were in the military when they made the switch to beretta.

  17. I don't know what high school or college parties you have been but it isn't a dinner party, the point (however you may feel on the matter) is to get blackout drunk. As for the rest of that agreed someone should have stayed sober enough to keep an eye on things. That goes back to personal responsibility, almost no one will ever have a greater concern for your well-being besides you. If you feel comfortable getting black-out drunk and trusting your safety to others than this is a risk you take.
  18. Not to get lost in the conversation but prayers go out to the families of these two gentlemen
  19. "- In the fog of war, do you think people will recognize you for the good guy, or just another assailant shooting up the place? What if there's another CCW holder that thinks you're part of the problem?" So lets just take everyone guns away! That'll fix the problem If I get shot by another CCW holder, 1) I would be pissed that I got shot 2) I would be even more pissed if he didn't get the shooter
  20. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/aurora-victim-matt-mcquinn-shields-girlfriend-samantha-yowler-heroic-act-article-1.1119157 Jon Blunk was a victim in the Aurora shootings. His girlfriend Jansen Young was saved when Blunk threw himself on top of her in the hail of gunfire. Blunk had previously been in the military and was planning to enlist again.
  21. The other thing I don't get is the guy was walking up and down the isles shooting people, he had his back to someone at some point. It would be different if he stood at the front and just shot into the audience. The no-guns disarms me of my firearm but I always carry my gerber tactical pocket knife for the same reason as I carry a concealed firearm. Again, I can't say if I could have or would have done anything but not once person of the 100 or so in there did anything. Maybe martians might have abducted him too, the fact of the matter is no one did anything to stop this guy, and law abiding citizens were deprived of their ability to have the means to defend themselves by the theater's policy. Do we know for a fact that if someone had shot back it would have saved some more lives? No, but we do know that people died and this guy went unopposed during this massacre, all most of the people on here are saying is there might have been a different outcome if people had been allowed to have their weapons.
