I show up at my new base and met my CC. It's a non flying gig I really wanted because it's a sweet job in a great spot. My new CC was told that Lt Col was in the bag. He received word a few months ago for this past board. When you are special, you are special I guess. And if he ever needed anything, he name dropped GO ###. All I could do was smile and say cool. I felt really awkward to say the least. My promotion board for next year came up and I haven't done ACSC via correspondence. My CC was like I didn't do it either and people who have to do it twice were miserable at ACSC. I wanted to say I'm never doing it and going to retire in 2020, but I bit my tongue. (Never show your cards.) Then the CC said he knows I want his job next! I almost died laughing. All I need are 2 hots and a cot until I retire.
ACSC in correspondence is useless....
Glad to hear there are a few out there that have written it off also.

Seriously, I don't get all this hand-wringing over staying in a career where you're shit on, unappreciated, kept in the dark about your future, and probably being paid half what you're worth
How many times do y'all have to eat shit and ask for seconds before you say enough is enough?
Wolves vs sheep....

I'm a 1 APZ passed over with a P. I was optimistic with so many pilots punching that my chances would be improved for this look...I guess last years 3% promote rate of APZs with a P still holds true. I'm considering reserve transition to get a real chance at O-5.
Did you do ASBC, then SOS in correspondence, then SOS in residence, then get a Masters, then ACSC in correspondence?
Or did you just fail a PT test?

I am honestly curious. The AF just published that it wants 7 new fighter squadrons while simultaneously being short hundreds of fighter pilots. Surely there's opportunities there for T-38 dudes who missed the boat the first time. Am I wrong?
They won’t do it....

CSOs, late-rated pilots, and a handful of career pilots.
Pretty sure majority of late rate pilots will continue to find other avenues to retirement instead of staying AD.

what's worse is being disillusioned from one of the earlier assignments and you say this, I'm out. Go on to a new assignment/deployment/unit that gives you hope in the big blue machine, only to be crushed again when the good deal/time runs out. You end up drinking yourself into a stupor and wonder why you fall for this shit twice...

The military, like the government, works best when it’s made up of the people. Not just the predominantly Southern, conservative, white male people (though that’s what many seem to be most comfortable surrounding themselves with), but a true cross section of the American populace. That will help our communities begin reconnecting with their military. I absolutely agree with Chuck’s “grow diversity” sentiment. This doesn’t necessarily mean promoting based on ethnicity/race/gender (although I admit this does happen). But recruiting from a broader cross section is certainly a worthy goal.
The Draft would accomplish this.... Problem solved with retention too right??
A conversation about diversity would be great when the organization itself isn’t coming apart at the seams.... Priorities.

Did the AF stand down the T-6 at all? Or did they bury their nugget in the sand and pretend all is well?
-
3-4 years is exactly where big blue wants the timeline to “fix” everything.
Everybody that was around when the problem first showed up will have PCS/Separted/Retired and it’ll be “normal” ops for the fresh blood.

Is this going to be one of those “too big to fail” programs where there is downward pressure to pass these students along?
Yes.

6-9 of those are in the AFRC 919th SOW, so they’ll be around a little longer than their AD counterparts.
But still not long enough to take part in the abortion the AF is bound to make in regards to getting LA full up....

And 6-9 of those will retired/separated in another 2 years.... Way before a Light Attack is on an Air Force ramp.

I just read this article that stated up or out is basically repealed and that it would be up to the Service Secretaries. Just wondering if anyone had heard anything. I know several O-4 bonus or late-rate guys with airline jobs lined up expecting the second Passover and release to happen in the next 2 months.Fixed. The. Glitch.

I flew the T-38 years ago before the mod and ACES II so I'm not familiar. Did they add a SEAT NOT ARMED warming light or did the pilot just have the arming lever?
Just a lever.

Opportunity did not beckon quite enough for AFPAK Hands according to MGen Mahaney:
https://www.airforcetimes.com/opinion/commentary/2018/08/21/commentary-the-afpak-hands-program-was-a-retention-nightmare-its-been-transformed/This is good.
But the damage has been done. It’s too little, too late. Again.
Every bro that got that robot email will remember this “opportunity” when it’s time to stay or go for years to come...

Your bonus status isn't tied to your eligibility for a 365. Just deploy for at least 45 days every 5 years and it should keep you off the top of the list.
I think the status is going to make the choice between a pilot who hasn’t stayed on the 45 day/5 year cycle and is past their ADSC vs. Nav that has but took the bonus a clean kill for AFPC. -

That's been my whole career. Here's hoping it stays in the 90% range next year.
Do 91% of dudes REALLY do ACSC in correspondence?!

Are you serious? It never sucks to be a military flight student. Unless you suck and shouldn’t be there.
Perhaps an increase in competition will drive the quality of students up as we in the strike fighter community have seen a relative decline in the past 2-3 years compared to 5+ years ago.
It doesn’t suck for them at all!
Competition?! There is no competition. Everyone that doesn’t get airsick gets a trophy... Wings.
Reference: “We must grow out of the pilot crisis”
With the majority of experienced/combat instructor pilots already gone, the training has become a mere shell of what it once was.
Where is the bottom?

I’d like to see everyone in a bag kick it to the curb. If no pilot does it then the problem is fixed.
I know it’s almost impossible with all the knee pad wearing careerists out there but maybe the few remaining bros can fight for the right.....
