    From Enclosure A:

    cjcsi_1800_01f.pdf?ver=2020-05-15-102430

PME Outcomes. PME and JPME programs must provide graduates the knowledge and skills to prepare them for service as joint warfighting leaders, senior staff officers, and strategists who:
    a. Discern the military dimensions of a challenge affecting national interest; frame the issue at the policy level; and recommend viable military options within the overarching frameworks of globally integrated operations.
    b. Anticipate and lead rapid adaptation and innovation during a dynamic period of acceleration in the rate of change in warfare under the conditions of great power competition and disruptive technology.
    c. Conduct joint warfighting, at the operational to strategic levels, as all- domain, globally integrated warfare, including the ability to integrate allied and partner contributions.
    d. Are strategically-minded warfighters or applied strategists who can execute and adapt strategy through campaigns and operations; and
    e. Demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills, interpersonal skills, and effective written, verbal, and visual communications skills to support the development and implementation of strategies and complex operations.

I know the status quo is to hate on the Air Force, but PME is a CJCS managed program that is mandated by the Goldwater-Nichols act. It isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

ACSC in-correspondence is useless unless the Air Force gives you time to really study and learn the material.

So the curriculum for online ACSC/SOS are effectively accomplishing these requirements?

Without mandated time to accomplish it?

Sounds like more checking of a container because there is a Goldwater-Nichols Act to back it.

you aren’t going to promote to O-5 without ACSC, and there is very little the AF can do about it. There is honor in staying in the squadron, flying, avoiding PME, and retiring as an O-4 as long as you understand that you are limiting your opportunities for advancement in the larger AF and joint communities.

Some dudes I know hit the “push to test” and are awaiting results now.... One with a DP. No ACSC.

If only there was an online program that covered the learning objectives of SOS in a distance learning type environment...

Agreed.... something online that can be a pre-requisite for attending in-residence when we get back to normal. Like 2007-2017.

Question for the masses:  have an individual that has an award but no accompanying citation (nobody can find it).  Member up for promotion soon.  Anyone run into this?  Recommendations?

Make sure the individual did ASBC, SOS in correspondence, SOS in residence(8 weeks), Masters, ACSC and plan the squadron Christmas party. Those should eliminate the award/medals/combat/deployed time and other “useless” data points for the board.

The ASU transition...shockingly...is not clear. "click the link and follow the ASU instructions" AU wipes their hands clean. There are no instructions, just a choose your own adventure of links. On a good note....ASU online help has been more responsive than any support organization in the Air Force. They were able to knock it out in about 5 min.

    Update:

within .69 seconds of being on the ASU system I was able to

    1. sign up for my next self paced class (instant registration)

    2. start next self paced class (it links you directly to the class canvas)

Super clean interface. My syllabus is laid out in it's entirety to include registration dates for the facilitated courses. Looks like a linear progression though, sent email request to see if you can take more than one class at once or start the self paced classes in the next block prior to finishing the current block faciliated course.

Because of the previous AU shenanigans, my next facilitated class won't be until Sept so no update there.

Yay? Sweet? (Please move to whats wrong with the AF thread)

Because the Central School Selection Board (CSSB) just picks you up for school. Your DT (MAF/CAF/SOF) then vectors you to a specific school and that gets sent to the AFPC or A1 Bobs to sort out.

^^THIS^^ The presents the illusion of control and ability to “make life decisions” In reality, the AF determines what is best for you.....again.

Yuck..... Sounds like trying to make a square peg fit a round hole.

Yeah.... it’s the AF. I mean, how could you possibly make it past Major without discussing topics like that?

  8. This is so Air Force....unable to accomplish something “required” even though deemed useless by everyone that’s done it prior, but still need to be signed up on time to participate. Meanwhile even the system itself has become self aware and has collapsed making it impossible to sign up. Catch 22 squared more like it....

I don’t think I’ve met a single person who thought anything worthwhile happened/was taken from ASBC, SOS, ACSC, AWC.

You haven’t. Neither have I. I honestly believe the only way to move away from this junk being considered is to JUST STOP DOING IT.

I’m not sure of the details of the board. I AM sure my private parts and the pilot shortage had a lot to do with my “success.”

I highly doubt I’ll be promoted to O-5, which is fine by me. I’m getting out as soon as possible.

Just get acsc in correspondence and stay AD. There’s nobody left....

"If you take a look at officers that may have got out early ... and you ask them how their battalion commander was, it was probably not who they wanted or inspired them do serve,"

“But he did ASBC/SOS correspondence/SOS in residence/Masters/ACSC correspondence....I don’t get it.” -Air Force

  12. ACSC in correspondence is a waste of time. Basing selection for promotion on that single item is ignorant. I have NEVER talked to someone my senior that disagrees with this. (At least in a closed door conversation) But are any of you guys actually surprised at this? I’m not.

Yeah they gave out timelines with no PSDM. None of the wings have anything more than a timeline, which makes it hard to do PRFs. Your wing probably did what ours did and had people write PRFs so that there was something to hack on once the PSDM dropped.

The way it was explained was there will be no more APZ/BPZ. 5 years of IPZ and when you get promoted you aren’t tagged differently regardless of what year in the zone you were. Everyone getting looked at is supposedly treated the same as well.

Without the PSDM though we don’t know for sure, and we don’t know which years are going to be the new IPZ. Basically that means we aren’t really sure who is meeting this board. I know for you that would mean a decent chance of another IPZ look if this all happens this board. There is also a chance they push it to next board, but I doubt it with this much delay.

EDIT: if a mod wants to move this to the PRF thread I’m not opposed

4 extra years to do ACSC in correspondence to prove your leadership potential!

Is there a way to look up the current manning of a squadron? I.e., if I wanna see how many open billets are in a squadron at a certain location?

If there is a way, the numbers will already be “adjusted” in order to show the bottom of the excel spreadsheet green.

Second order effect of the on again off again credentials arms race that has only gotten worse with the advent of online master's degrees and the growth of the Professional Military Educational Complex.

Data block on your surf showing likely worthless Advanced Academic Degree?  Yup

Data block on your surf (if aircrew) showing Advanced Primary Operational Skills (Instructor/Evaluator/FCF cert/etc.)?  Nope

Think about that, Academic credentials (masters and/or pme) matter more in the great scheme of things than actual Operational credentials and hence experience/ability.

    Shack.

  16. Where is the data showing promotion rate for non-pilots that took the bonus? I think that this boils down to simple economics.... Why pay someone more when they don’t have an easy avenue to a six figure job on the outside and already committed for the next 5-6 years....
