  1. blah blah blah ....... I'd be very happy to go to the Air Force academy and be an AD pilot for 10 years then switch to national guard like you have done... blah blah blah

Please read his post again. It's not just the 10 years commitment. Remember the training time involved.

  2. Nobody is putting down all non-rated officers. With all the free time you have ... I guarantee almost every squadron is severely min manned ...

As a non-rated myself I wonder where all this free time comes from. I've looked at doing the CGOC because we don't have a large pool of peers in our Sq to interact with and it's good for networking and "getting things done". Remember, we don't have Sq bars. :notworthy:

It helps to know, on pleasant terms initially, who the finance CGO is, same with medical and personnel. I get the bashing at times, but that's a serious incentive to me to head over, and I like to volunteer when I can -- not for promotion.

But, we're so f'ing undermanned that I just don't have time with all the queep or anything else to understand how they knock all this nonsense out. I'm checking through EPRs to make sure the brand new SSgts didn't shit on the form and hand it up. My TSgt can't be bothered to look at them for a variety of reasons (overworked usually, lazy the other 49.9% of the time) and the MSgt are worried about making SMSgt/Top-3 more than anything else usually. (Side note: reason #2 I wanted a commision was to throat punch bad SNCOs.)

Amn.. oh my god.. I don't usually get into Amn becuase that's the supervisors job. So when Amn snuffy is late by hours for the 4th time in 3 months and the SSgt tells me it's just verbal counseling again, the SSgt gets face rolled. Which takes time.

Add that to the AAD, upcoming PME (whatever it is now), Add'l duties, and idea-fairy killing, I just don't have time besides robbing the family more to put towards something like that.

Where are they getting this damn time??!?!?!?

  3. I have a Col that I work with that sat the board and confirms the pass-overs for those without OPRs to include aircrew, or those who didn't make it through aircrew training and reclassed into something else.

Couldn't imagine getting medically DQ'd from UPT, sitting casual, going intel, waiting on clearances/training and then not getting promoted.

Additionally.. those that got passed over at the last board completed for APZ consideration and knocked some of your/my peers out for Capt this time as well. I've yet to hear anyone O6 and above sing about the virtues of this selection process.

If I had to do another year as a Lt I'd punch.

  4. Blues are a terrible uniform too and generals wear them all the time...I know one guy even decided everyone should wear them on Mondays

At the pentagon. I've never seen Generals/Senior officers outside of that fine establishment wear anything but bags the vast majority of the time. You've seen officers show up in blues just 'cause they wanted to? Sounds like a CSAF we just had. That guy as you mention, was a douche.

    You are kidding right...

Uh, no. It's a question the AFSPC CC and Chief addressed directly in briefings at my base and in a personal meeting.

  5. Thanks everyone for responding, its helping a lot. What AFS were you as enlisted?

I was a 3C2X1 (Comm Tech Control) - which doesn't exist anymore, and neither might HU&W's. My old careerfield is 3D??? now. But I don't think there's an enlisted careerfield that's going to on-ramp you for being commissioning/being pilot. Someone else please correct me if I'm wrong.

Took me a decade to knock out my degree while in jobs that did not deploy much. Your first 2 years in the AF as Amn are not going to be good for college. So there's 1/2 your enlistment if you do 4 years (which you should). Always go mins when dealing with gov't commitment.

I'm not a pilot, but when I applied to OTS I got the following advice: "Do you want to be an officer, or a (insert officery job here)" because it's a dice roll if you're getting in (look at current approval rates) AND if you'll get the job you want. In 2008 I put Intel, Comm, Space & Missiles... and got Comm. Very very strange that I got that given what was going on in the AF at the time.

    Also, go to college.

  6. I thought this signaled her expected foray into the world of porn, but apparently not (yet)...

Turns out that LaBella works for Representative John Shimkus, an Illinois Republican...

Cops have since called the whole thing bullshit. As always - Can't Trust a Crack Whore.

  7. I wonder if they were putting the raw feed out and looking at the delay on set. Great annoyed face there at the end.

I got to watch the profuse apologizing afterwards. You know in between gold, diabetes, medical supply, and mesothelioma lawsuit ads.

  8. Was looking for some info on ABU wear since I just got my first set yesterday and found this. Interesting read at the bottom about the ABU development fiasco.

Was going to link that myself. For you bag wearers, that's the reason I get mad you wear flight suits when not flying.

Because leadership makes shit decisions for our uniform because they don't wear it! It's terrible even inside in non-combat! Wearing it once a week is fine for the stars who brought us this thing (when addressing Amn, photo ops, etc). I really didn't care that much about staff-weenies rocking their PJ's until I started wearing this tiger-stripped disaster.

They fit terribly and never get comfortable like the BDU's did after a few washes. it's like I'm constantly pulling on cardboard when I get ready for work.

You also have to try on each set you buy since it's a toss up if they cut the sleeves/legs to the right length.

I was super excited when Comm Officers became 17D/Cyber Ops because I thought we'd be getting bags at some point. I mean, we're ops right? Just like missileers and space jocks. Well, we all know how that turned out.

I would love to have BDU's back. Sure I have to iron a little, and make the boots stay black. But at least I could have patches (you know - heritage & morale) and waterproof boots. Or hell, just let us all wear OCP/multcam, I've heard nothing bad about that uniform.

Also: bring back Squadron hats.

and one roundly mocked by their sister services.

We already get trashed enough for losing our way and trying to sit at the "we're all warriors" table. This f*cking uniform thing is additional nonsense I get at work constantly now.

The "aquaflage" looks like the original wear test AF leadership started in 2005. But it got mocked so hard they had to drop it. At least the navy went full digital instead of sticking with this stupid and useless tiger-stripe infatuation.

  9. Still LOLing.

    Troll on, troll.

    EDIT - Nevermind

As far as APO I volunteered a lot when I was at Ramstein at their post office. I left right when they started taking 2 day weekends (sun & mon I believe). Those guys were slammed every day, and it was worse Oct - Feb obviously.

I used shipitapo dot com and it was ok, if a little expensive and slow.

  10. Agreed. That's asking a lot of the Airmen. They should only do good deal professional sporting events and NASCAR races.

######ing vets. ###### them and their families. ######ers. Honor Guard folks should be guarding something that is honorable, not these ######ing bullshit dead ###### vets.

    Probably Obama's fault.

Nice. When I got guys PTDY for a week multiple times a year to do multiple funerals for folks who didn't retire, or serve even close to a decade, or did their draft time in Germany, it seems a bit strange.

The broad from "who wants to marry a millionare" gets a military funeral if she/family so desires.

Yea.. fck the vets is totally what I was saying. :salut:

Also, happened during Bush II's presidency. Obama is clear, though I think the Congress might have been Democrat at the time.

    EDIT: Political Clarity

  11. Seriously dude? How does that look to everyone else that sees you? How can the TSgt explain to the A1C that he can't wear his sunglasses on his head in the chowhall when he sees some Maj do it? Leading by example and all that good stuff.

    2 techniques -

    1) Had Amn ask me why they had to do something when aircrew didn't. Appropriate response is "Shut the fck up, I own you, not them."

    2) When I was in Korea they were pushing no headphones while running on the street hard. We were doing group runs w/ the DO Maj "leading" us. We pull around the corner and this dude rolls by on the street in PT gear with headphones in and we point it out. Maj says, "He's a pilot" and we roll on. However, this confirmed the Maj was a douch to the rest of the Sq, but we already suspected.

  12. So, dumb question from a non-pilot: Do you have to retrain in each of these airframes separately once they've been upgraded or is it a simple familiarization flight?

Also how long does that take?

There's quite a few different block models ID'd for the upgrade.

    Thnx
