  1. I just wanted to add my 2 cents on the AIA positions. Just hit my 5 year mark. I started out at one of the SW border location, and was able to transfer to a much better location after 4.5 years. I know most of this talk has been about flying; however, there is the an LE aspect to this job as well. The LE aspect of this jobs is what I enjoy the most. I work on the investigations side. Some of the work I have been able to do: been on the ground with our investigative partners serving search and arrest warrants, installed covert camera systems to further investigations, seized aircraft that have been involved in smuggling or other violations, cyber investigations and lots of training opportunities. I will tell you that i have had 2 very good supervisors that look out for their guys and has tried their best to shield us from a lot of the BS. The investigations side tends to be a small group of guys, so we have been pretty tight knit. When I first started this job, I wasn’t sure I would make it to year 2, I was ready to move on. However, I found a niche I that I enjoyed and no one else wanted to do... things turned around.
  2. I am looking for a contact with 305th RQS. Currently an Army hawk pilot. Work is transferring me to San Diego, so i looking for a new unit and figure this might me a good time to see about transitioning to AF RW. Thanks chip
  3. A couple of shots taken in and around Baghdad
  4. Stay away from Lincoln Square Apts in enterprise.
  5. I have not heard anything as to who was killed. It was a VFR bird, they were at high bluff stage fields, which is one of the primary training stage fields. I have a included a link to a local article. TH-67 crash
  6. We had a TH-67 go down in Ft. Rucker today. 1 pilot is confirmed dead and the other was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. There are no further details as of now.
  7. I am currently at Rucker about to start the -64 course. I am commissioned officer, so I had to get a waiver to attend OCS (I was 30 @ the time). However, to attend flight school the max age is 32 and is waiverable. I am not sure what the max waiverable age is, but they seem to be pretty easy to come by.
  8. I met with the flight surgeon on Friday to discuss the results of my FCIA. He said everything was fine and he saw nothing that would keep it from getting approved. However, when I looked at the results of EKG they were as fowllows: my sinus rhythm was normal, a possible enlarged left atrial, and a borderline ECG. The surgeon did act if there was a problem, but is this something that could be in future. I am just looking for a plain language explanation of the results. Other info I am 30 and this is for the USA, so I am not sure if there is a difference in standards.

    Galveston

I am in N. Houston as we speak getting ready to ride this thing out. People are taking this very seriously.. I-45 which is a major thoroughfare between Houston and Galveston is taking 10 hours to go approx 100 miles. Right now it is predicted to hit between Galveston and Matagorda Bay (spairing Corpus), but we shall see. It is going to be an interesting few days here.. The main thing is my cooler is well stocked with water and
  10. I did not say this was for cosmetic reasons. I have trouble breathing out of the right side of my nose, and I do suffer from some sinus problems. From what I understand the sinus problem is do to the lack of air entering one side of the nostril and to much on the other. Hopefully that clears up any misunderstandings. So with my current condition surgery seems to make sense. Also what would you consider a good healing time after surgery to take the physical? I was thinking aprrox. 1 month. Thank you for your help.
  11. Most insurance companies dont increase their premiums for pilots of scheduled air carries and military pilots. The only pilots I have seen pay an additional premium for flying are GA pilots.
  12. I went to an ENT specialist and he said I have a deviated septum. He suggested a Septoplasty and a Tubinectomy. My concern is I am about to take the FCIA exam in the near furture. Will the surgery have a negative effect on getting the physical certified? Would it be best to have the surgery before or after the physical? Also if the surgery is completed before the physical is there a specified time for recovery before the physical can be completed.
  13. I am in the process of doing my commissioning physical at MEPS. In the intial paperwork that you document your medical history I stated that I had tubes in my ears at approx. age 5. They are wanting to see documents which are next to impossible to produce since it was 23 years ago, so I have to provide a notorized statement that I can not access the records. My question are tubes something that can lead to a DQ, or are they being difficult at MEPS. By the way I have had no futher issues. Chip
  14. I would skip the river walk all together, but if you must: Dick's last resort is not all that great, the novelty wears off pretty quick. Dirty Nellies is fun, so is howl at the moon. Most of the places on the river walk are not that fun (I am a former local, so we avoided it like the plauge). If you have a car I would take a drive out to New Braunfels/Greune (about 25 mins away). A great place to eat right on the New Braunfles river is the Grist Mill and then Greune Hall (oldest dance hall in Texas) is right next door and you can hear some great live Texas music. This may not be an option for you, but if you can a good time is to be had by all. Plus the beer is 2.25 not 5.00 and up.
  15. I have to echo the comments made about USAA. They are great I have investment accounts, homeowners and auto insurance, and a credit card. Excellent customer service. Another great feature is when you become a member, your kids can become a member, their kids and etc. I am member because of my grandfather's service during WWII and korea.
  16. I just took the BAT test 2 days ago. I have PCSM score of 87 with a 48 Pilot section of the AFOQT, and 450+ hours of flight time. I putting an app in with an ANG unit now. I am retaking the AFOQT, but it will not be in time to meet the dealine.
