  1. It did for the dude who told me "the rich get richer." He was one of the first guys to drop the raptor out of UPT, I feel like that carries a little bit of weight.

Well, if he told you this right after he was a student, I wouldn't put a whole lot of weight in it. If he's been an IP since then, his perspective might have changed a little.

Prior time helps a little, but it really depends. If a guy has golden hands, his going to be better than a guy that doesn't (eventually) regardless of the prior time.

Here's a piece of advice for new UPT studs: You can either show up to a brief with one of two attitudes:

1.) The student shows up for a flight with that attitude that I will teach them everything.

2.) The student shows up to each flight with the attitude that he's going to demonstrate to me everything he has learned so far.

I'll let you guess which one is the more successful student.

  2. Unless it has to do with TP stalls or instrument flying, FAIPs have no idea what they're talking about and should not be trusted.

(FAIPs: Don't be a SNAP and stroke-out with a sensitivity aneurysm. I was once you. It gets better.)

I think we should at least get a little credit for knowing which FBOs have the hottest chicks behind the desk and the nicest crew cars.

  3. Anyone used an alteration shop/tailor in/near Enid for party shirts?

One of your classmate's wives. Or boyfriends/life-partner(s). Because that's cool now.

Seriously...talk to the STURON's wive's club. They usually have the inside info on that kind of stuff.

  4. In my little Slice O' AETC, we've noticed that a lot of FAIPs coming up on their assignment selection (Assignment Night II - The hopefully not disappointing sequel!) getting deployments that extend their PCS date to their next assignment considerably.

The rumor is that they are delaying B-course dates for FAIPs keep their replacements from AD squadrons from PCS'ing early as a mean to (artificially?) inflate the fighter manning numbers.

Any one on the ACC side seeing the flip side of this, or is this just a case of the FAIP Mafia rumors going horribly wrong?

  5. No thanks to you, cleeding bunt.

...and hopefully lady luck on my side, that if I do get a pilot slot,...

Well after this post...I am considering devoting my life to tracking you down and kicking you in the ######.

Who talks like this? What is a 'cleeding bunt'?

I probably have the most 'family friendly' assignment that you can get as a pilot, but I still spend at least one weekend away from home a month on average, and miss dinner a few days out of the week. Every once and a while, there are a few days where I don't see my 3 year old because she's asleep when I go to work and asleep when I get home. And I have it extremely easy, comparatively. If there's a stable family environment to be had as a pilot, it's as a UPT IP. However, I still find that I work more, and spend more time away from home than most of my bros on the civilian side.

You came here looking for answers, and you got them. I'd suggest you stop attempting to call out guys that have deployed downrange multiple times, missed out on birthdays, anniversaries, dance recitals and soccer games, and maybe had a marriage fail because of that. They have volunteered and participated in a series of conflicts that most citizens have forgotten or don't care about anymore. These same citizens are able to go about their daily routines with their families without fear of real danger from terrorist assholes that the 'cleeding blunts', as you call them, have had a direct or supporting role in killing or capturing with extreme prejudice.

If you do get a pilot's slot to go to UPT, I hope you change your attitude. Since it's becoming increasingly hard to wash students out because they are douchebags, you'll probably pass UPT. Once you get to an operational squadron, you'll be one of the guys that works as little as possible so you can spend more time with your family. But when that happens, you'll just pass your work on to another squadron member that probably has a family, too. Most likely, that guy will spend the extra hour at work to do YOUR job, and spend less time with his family. I see this cycle happen all the time in my squadron, and like I said, I haven't done 1/1000th of what most posters on the board have done.

Also, the name ArtOfWar is incredibly toolish. If you continue posting, I suggest you get something like MaleNestingInstict.

  6. http://www.cnn.com/2....html?hpt=hp_t2

Pentagon officials, while decrying North Korean saber-rattling, said recent announcements of U.S. military deployments in response to belligerent statements by North Korea may have contributed to the escalating tensions between the countries.

As the bombast reaches a fever pitch, the United States is refining its message toward North Korea. The Pentagon now says it is working to decrease the temperature as it maintains a frank and vigilant stance toward Pyongyang's threats."We are trying to turn the volume down," a Defense Department official said.

"We accused the North Koreans of amping things up, now we are worried we did the same thing," one Defense Department official said.

Are we that nutless now? Jeezus.
