  1. When I was flying into Oshkosh last week, they had everyone squawk standby within 30 nm. ADS-B will be a welcome change in that environment.

    Watching my Foreflight ADS-B picture of the departures out of OSH when I was departing Appleton on Sunday was....eyeopening and scary. I'm glad I had something that gave me some SA on the VFR traffic that was leaving the event. It was an asset.

    My group rented out some space in a house by the field, so we decided to try the less congested option getting in there since we have a place to crash.

  3. Couldn't hack it? Puss'd out? GMAFB. I have not complained about my decision to leave UPT, ever. I asked my leadership for advice and guidance, and the consensus was that "making it work" between two married pilots that are not in the same year group or airframe is incredibly difficult. While people do it successfully, it frequently ends badly. Flying in the Air Force wasn't that important to me, it was more important to me to serve as an officer first and be stationed with my wife. I was fortunate in that I was assigned to a career field that I find very rewarding, but had I not been, it would have been because I chose to leave UPT, and that was a pill I was willing to swallow.

    There is absolutely nothing wrong with pilots (or anyone else) deciding to get out of the Air Force. I have never said I had anything against pilots choosing to leave; and I hope those that do find a better life in another career. What I am trying to convey is that AF pilots are some of the best paid and best taken care of service members in the entire DoD, so the complaining seems a lot like Saudi princes at UPT complaining about having to park their M3s with the rest of the studs, whereas in Saudi Arabia, they drive a Maserati, and they get to park wherever they want.

    I hope that BODN represents the vocal minority on this issue and these discussions don't happen in front of the maintainers or AFE folks you guys work with.

    We are clearly not going to find common ground here, so we'll just have to go with I'm right on this one, trust me.

    I'm not necessarily going for a pile on here, but whether you like it or not, support types have a stigma. At my base, when I roll in at 0600-0630, the MSG, Med Group and other support units have completely empty parking lots. When I leave at 1800-1830, those parking lots are also empty. Our Finance shop closes up at 1630, regardless if you are waiting in line or not. We have no flight docs on duty after 1630 usually. We asked if a doc would come in if we had a in flight physi after 1630, and were told to basically pound sand.

    I'm not accusing you of being one of those 'types' and the fact that you visit this forum makes me think you aren't. But there are more bad examples than good ones these days, at least in my world. The primary mission of my base is flying training. Yet, the support squadrons are far better manned than the ops squadrons right now, but there seems to be zero desire in the support units to help us either accomplish the primary mission of our wing or assist those that do. I wound venture to guess my example isn't unique or special, either.

  4. We can go back to the T-X and teach all of that in the MWS, but it's gonna be going from a plane that cost $2k/hour to fly to something that's $25k/hour or more... for all 400ish student pilots UPT graduates every year.edit: wait, this is the A-10 thread?

    I think your numbers for UPT graduates is off. We do 400ish per year just at END.

  5. I know 3 OSI agents between my commissioning source and ASBC. Of those three, one was generally a good dude and a solid bro (at least at the time). The other two, however, couldn't wait to be 'elite' , 'make some arrests' or "ruin some careers" (that last one was seriously a direct quote). They really seemed to just crave authority and power over others. My guess is that this is probably representative of the entire department.

  6. I agree with the vast minority comment, but not on leaders, but on the stories in this group. I believe the vast minority of each story has some truth. I believe the problem with your AF is the entitlement your young pilots seem to have. "This is why I got out of AMC". A good leader would suck it up, try to make it to a position where you can make these changes. Instead you run and leave your "wingman" to endure. To the vast majority complaining on this forum, reflect on your own integrity and ask yourself what you can do to make it better instead of complaining on a public forum.

  7. Just an opinion based on some graphical study, but over the past 50 years, the size and scope of the Federal government has only gotten larger. With this increase in size and scope, more and more regulation agencies have been created to oversee private industries.

    I'm obviously a free-market capitalist to the extreme, but I personally believe it is the increased presence of government in business that has been a driving factor in wealth inequality. Those that can afford to get preferential treatment (e.g. tax breaks/incentives) get hooked up while the small businesses don't.

  8. Well, in the MSG singing songs of those type, drinking at work at all, or crude name aren't tolerated. Of course there's still the knuckleheads who think calling names/grabbing SrA Yummybritches is ok. Any they get handled, quickly. There's no "that's what she said" or "69" or the "cranium" bullshit. It degrades our fellow Airmen, which impedes our mission.

    So what you're saying is there is no link between workplace jokes and actual sexual assault...right?

    Stop the witch hunts. Prosecute the perpetrators of legitimate sexual assaults to the maximum extent possible within the UCMJ. Make an example out of the assholes that are doing it. Hold the guilty accountable, and any leadership that allowed it to happen. Don't treat the 99% of military members like they are in high school. You'll be surprised at the results.

  10. My friends that work at for profit companies laugh when I tell them the details of the sexual assault witch hunt.

    We have so many problems as a service. Sexual Assault is one of them, no doubt. The problem is, we aren't attacking the causation of sexual assault. We think punishing the 99% that obey the current regs will keep the 1% of 'bad-guys' from engaging in rape, etc. I have my 4th SAPR brief of this year tomorrow. Is this going to tell me anything I don't know, or believe? No, it isn't. It also isn't going to change the behavior of the people that think rape or assault is acceptable. I really don't think making 69 illegal is going to change anyone's behavior, and I'll venture to say I think you are out of touch if you think it will.
