  1. Heard back today by snail mail. No-go for me.
  2. I'm not sure what you mean by cat. People usually write a brief description for what the loan is for though. When I was starting out I would hand pick loans that I would lend to. If the loan is for something of convenience or luxury then I feel safer lending to them because it usually means that they have expendable income, but for whatever reason they want to finance their purchase instead of paying cash. So, I feel safer loaning to them because in my mind I think they are more likely to keep up with payments. Then there are some people who are applying for a loan to refinance a credit card or something similar. I was more hesitant to loan to them because it meant to me that they may have been financially irresponsible and I kinda worried that they are more likely to stop making their payments. There are other factors that you are allowed to look at as well. This includes things like credit score, monthly income, debt to income ratio, whether they rent or own, how long they have been employed at the same place, etc. Lending club offers a service where they will automatically reinvest the money you make into new loans. All you have to do is set what you want your rate of return to be and they will start loaning your money back out as soon as its comes in from when people make their payments on their loans. Once I enrolled in this service I stopped checking all the borrowers that my money was going to so I'm not picky at all anymore. I did my research and Lending Club functions like any other creditor out there; they screen their borrowers very well and they make every attempt to collect a debt if for some reason the borrower misses a payment. Their website states that most people that apply for a loan through Lending Club get denied so that should tell you that they do screen their borrowers well. I have only had 1 person default so far but there are 3 other people that are late on their payments. Most of the people that do fall behind on payments have eventually became current again though. I have loaned money to about 250 people so far too. I hope that was helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions.
  3. Yes. I have been with them for 1.5 years now. My return rate is actually hovering just over 10% right now and now 9% like I said earlier.
  4. Depends on what you consider moderate. If 8-10% is good for you then look into "peer to peer lending". I put some money in it last year and am getting about 9% return, but the rate is expected to drop as some people will default. Overall seems safe if you spread out your loans though.
  5. I have a question for all the guys who scored in the 80's and 90's in the categories. I took the AFOQT last year and did not do well. P-86, N-67, AA-70, V-52, Q-79. I wanted to have scores in the 90's on all these sections so I planned to retake. I studied pretty aggressively for about 6 weeks before retaking the exam. I took every single practice test I could get my hands on and did under timed conditions. Afterwards I reviewed the problems and answers so I could make sure I understood how to do them (the math ones). I must have memorized about 750 new vocab words too, and then read up on student pilot books to do good in the aviation section. I retook the exam today and am perplexed. I've read severeal sources say that the actual exam is easier than the practice exams but that is not what I thought at all. There were about 5 vocab words in each the Analogies and Synonym sections that I can't even recall ever memorizing and had to guess. Similarly, there were about 3-4 math questions in each math section that I couldn't wrap my head around and just had to make educated guesses. I know for a fact I missed 2 questions on Aviation section because I looked them up afterwards, but I think those may be the only 2 I missed in that section thankfully. The rest of the exam went very good (except damn block counting because I had three where corners were touching and didn't know what to do!) but obviously the most important sections gave me trouble. I definitely did better than the first time but I was expecting to basically coast through it given how much I practiced. I even followed the test taking tips (eating a light breakfast before the test, having 1 small 8oz coffee, and even dressing up formally on the day of the test). Perhaps my downfall was that I didn't quit get enough sleep (about 6 hours) and I was tired but I'm used to functioning off little sleep. Still, perhaps not operating at peak mental efficiency caused me to flutter. So to the guys that scored in the 80's and 90's on each section, did you have a handful of questions in the academic sections where you had to guess? Or was the exam a breeze to you?
  6. Alright I will stick with the guard route for now but would not hesitate to apply for AD. I am aware of the high dissatisfaction and it is unfortunate that the leadership is not listening to you guys. What I'm mostly after here is the experience of serving alongside awesome people and making the good memories. Maybe im still naïve but I think the satisfaction of looking at what I'm doing with my life in the big picture would make it all worth it anyway.
  7. Hi guys, I've applied to 2 guard units so far and no luck...but going to keep trying for now. If I didn't have a good paying job I would totally apply for AD. I know it is difficult to get into pilot training no matter how you go about it, but I imagine it would be easier to get picked up if you went the AD route instead of the guard units. I'm considering going AD for a few other reasons. Browsing through this forum I have read account of AD pilots who have just had an absolute blast in their AF careers. They got to fly numerous different airframes and traveled to all sorts of interesting places. Along with that they work with a great group of guys and form good lifelong friendships. I don't see any other way in life to get this type of amazing experience. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you'd get this same type of experience in the guard. Yes I know there is queep but don't think it would bother me too much if you have the right attitude. I'm not exactly thrilled about my job but am good at it and earn around 100K/year. The thing is that being a military pilot has been my dream for over a decade now and I gotta do it one way or another as I know I will always wonder "what if" if I don't pursue it. I'm torn because I feel like I'm giving up the chance on an amazing life experience in exchange for making a little bit of extra money. I'm looking for your guys' $0.02 on whether or not you'd give up a position like mine for AD or if you'd just stick with trying to go guard. Thanks
  8. Can anyone comment on how exactly Air Force UPT produces a more well rounded pilot than Army WOFT?
  9. Thanks guys. This information is helping me make a decision on which path to take. Food for thought: I posted this question on an army pilot forum and the they seem to be ok with the lower pay since it means that they don't have to deal with the extra responsibilities that O's have to deal with. In short, they are willing to get paid a little less if it means they get to fly more. There are Officers in the army who are aviators but they don't fly as much and after a few years they stop getting in the cockpit altogether. Can you elaborate on how UPT produces more well rounded pilots than Army WOFT?
  10. As I understand it, Air Force UPT students who select Rotary Wing on selection night get sent to Ft. Rucker and attend the RW course along with Army WOFT students. Correct? If this is correct, then how would you sum up the difference between a army Helicopter pilot vs a Air Force helicopter pilot? Other than rank, what is the difference (if any) between the proficiency, type of flying/mission, and the HH-60 vs the UH-60? Thanks. I'd be fortunate to be offered a slot in either program but am curious about differences to expect as a helicopter pilot in either branch.
  11. I emailed the 104th on the 29th and found out I didn't make the cut for interviews.
