  1. And make the ARC more like AD? Yeah that oughta fix it.
  2. Is it possible? Yes. Will it provide more options in the future? No. And I don't think you have a solid grasp of the -38/T-1 thing. I definitely wouldn't say that one track is "better" than the other. Just focuses on a different skill-set. I understand why a heavy unit would want you to go to T-1s (they risk losing you to a fighter unit at the end of -38s) but I recommend to our guys to go -38s if they can for the sole reason that formation in that setting is the most fun you can have with your pants on and you'll never get to do it again once you're out of UPT.
  3. Coming from a -135 perspective... 1. Yes. These are pretty small issues and the timing couldn't be better for you. 2. That's probably a question for the DO (who's usually in charge of hiring). It's definitely not too early to start getting your shit in a sock. I think you would want to get hired about a year prior to being able to start UPT which means applying 1.5 years prior. (those are extremely rough numbers but you get the point). Already having a FC1 will help tremendously. 3. You may be able to get hired without leadership support. I couldn't. I was in a similar situation and was getting zero interest until I got my SQ/DO and SQ/CC to write a letter of rec. Regarding the PCSM: It may be different in the pointy world but that's pretty much a pass/fail item for us. A 59 would definitely be a pass.
  4. I'm on title 10 orders for all 28 days of February. Since my unit won't extend the orders to let us take leave, I tacked on 4 days of title 10 alert orders so that I could have "more than 30 days" and receive full BAH. Finance told me today that because the funding is different, they can't combine those orders and thus I am not on orders "more than 30 days." Anybody have a good reference that I can use to get that extra $180. It's not much but I'm trying to make a point.
  5. It seems as though some people would think there's at least an implied commitment to the unit or at least the state. Nope. Following a significant other.
  6. Transferring to another guard unit that I'm hired at. LOR's, legal action, etc for not living within 50 miles of the area, not fulfilling my UPT commitment to my guard unit, not staying current, etc. And I shouldn't say threatening. Maybe mentioning. You know, just mentioning LOR's...
  7. I'm here because after numerous discussions, my leadership (some) is NOT helping and is in fact roadblocking me. I'm sorry the impression I'm creating is negative. I can assure you I've done all else I can think of (except JAG as mentioned) and am just trying to figure out what kind of teeth all the threats have.
  8. Haven't talked to JAG yet cause I'm a bum and like every bum, I avoid drill like the plague. I'll try to figure out the other day of the month that they're on base and pay them a visit. I'll let everyone know my findings. In the Q&A thread of the "Road to Wings" section? No thanks. I think current guard pilots might have better input than future guard pilots.
  9. Might wanna check yourselves fellas. I've been contributing for quite awhile now. Just researching some options because life changes. Save your flaming for another topic with Rainman or scoobs or masshole or whoever we're currently making fun of.
  10. Does anyone have a succinct reference (AFI or otherwise) of what the legal commitment is to your ANG unit? I know we have a legal requirement to attend drill and if you don't show up, the sheriff can pick you up and physically make you attend drill. How about if you come to drill but make no other efforts to stay current? What are the repercussions of that? How does the UPT commitment figure into all of this?
  11. I would live east of the mountains to get out of the inversion layer (assuming Ogden has one like SLC). Some place around Morgan or Huntsville. Outdoor activities there are endless. If you want to be closer, look for something on the bench which is a bench created by a prehistoric lake (Bonneville Lake, hence the Bonneville shoreline trail) that runs along the entire Wasatch front.
  12. LOR? Nah, more like yelled at. I've been yelled at before. I recently had someone call back to PA at my base and tell them that someone was drinking a beer in a flight suit. Upon hearing about it, I went straight to the OG and told him that it was me who was drinking and I don't know what ass clown called us in, but there were many more people buying us drinks and talking to us. You tell me what presents a better public image.
  13. Any recent updates on this topic? I'm in a similar boat and hoping not to have to use the press to test button but if I do, I want to know my options.
  14. I'm a guard bum so maybe we're coming from different areas but I get more hours (a lot more, 450ish in the past 12 months) than any of our full-timers. And after all the deductions (insurance, bullshit retirement plan, etc) I make more or less what my ART buddies make. Maybe I'm missing something or it's a Guard vs Reserve thing but in my mind that decision is easy in our current environment. There are some life factors like kids or living paycheck to paycheck that may make ART more attractive but I think for most troughing is a better deal. As to how that plays into the bigger topic: 6 years? Wow that's a long time. I probably would have been ok with it when I was begging for a UPT slot but with some perspective, no way. This is only going to reduce the quality of the applicants in the long run. Unless as bb17 says, there is more to the story.
  15. Anyone gotten a KC-135/B707/B720 type rating lately? I called my local FSDO today and they said they don't do that type rating anymore. Maybe cause there aren't any more 707s flying???
