February 19, 200520 yr On "The wingman" track, the dude talks about 2 getting the lead on the right, and tag lead...what does that stuff mean?
February 19, 200520 yr "Lead on the right" means that the element lead has passed responsibility for leading the flight to number two, who is to the right of the flight lead. "Tac Lead" means that 2 is leading the flight tactically, i.e. taking them to a merge because 1's radar is broke.
February 19, 200520 yr Cool, but what situation would warrant having 2 lead the flight, as in "lead on the right"?

February 20, 200520 yr Or if the flight lead gets bored he might find ammusement in giving '2' the lead - see if they've been keeping up with the clearance and NAVAIDS. Not that this has ever happened to me or anything.
February 21, 200520 yr At IFF that's something IP flight leads will occasionally do...give #2 the lead on RTB, for instance, to test his SA on the profile and NAVAID setup. IFF students are actually required to lead an RTB a couple times during the course.
