November 10, 2025Nov 10 I want to be a pilot (ideally fighters) in the Air Force or Navy. I’m currently entering my freshman year of college at a school that has AFROTC. Keep in mind, I was accepted to this school for spring semester this year, so if I do AFROTC I’ll start a semester behind most of my classmates (not sure if that changes anything). If I want to fly, should I join AFROTC when I get to school in January, or should I wait until after college and try to get a pilot slot through OTS/OCS? I wasn’t sure where my chances would be higher. I have a non-technical major, but I think I will do well in it. Thank you!
1 hour ago1 hr Since you never got a response it might be too late already but I'll chime in- AFROTC is still way easier to get a pilot slot out of than OTS. Pretty much everyone at my old Det that wanted one got one, some with PCSMs in the no kidding 30s and saw guys who got other Rated bumped up to pilot (granted this was pre-pandemic so things might've changed)
