I know a UPT IP that complained one time that his Herk SQ/CC made them all wear scarves.

I was issued a scarf in the last four squadrons I was in, but no one wore them.

Works almost like a morale/Friday shirt.

AFI 36-2903_AFSOCSUP_I 10 JULY 2013

8.4.10.1. (Added-AFSOC) Aircrew members assigned to HQ AFSOC are not authorized to wear the neck scarf. For aircrew members below HQ level, wear of the neck scarf is optional and is at the discretion of the wing/group commander. If a unit is authorized to wear the neck scarf, all aircrew members assigned to that unit will wear the scarf. Design and color of the neck scarf will be determined by the unit commander.

Huh?... so we're optionally required to wear a scarf if approved...
