Hi,

Did a search but I couldn't find anything on the topic. I'm an ROTC cadet and I'm curious about how a B-2 pilot would get moved around because I know they're only stationed in MO. Are you at Whiteman for most of your career besides the occassional TDY?

Thanks in advance

Same as any airframe.

There are plenty of airframes besides the B-2 that have only one or two bases and it's common for the pilots to stay in one place for quite a while. PCS's outside of your MWS (staff tour, etc.) will generally take you outside the normal bases for your MWS.

1.) Generally Eagle guys serve a year looking at themselves in the mirror....no need for a remote.

2.) Tankers/Airlift don't get (or need) escort service. Our Army brethern and CAS folks have done a fantastic job kickin' ass and keeping approach/departure corridors clean for us slow-movers...except for occasional attempts. We also have proven equipment and sound tactics/procedures to mitigate most threats.

*** Read -- Airlift/Tanker planes can EASILY fly single engine, even if were heavy/hot, etc. We focus the firepower protecting the absolute tip of the spear - grunts -- vs. "wasting" on escort service!!!

3.) A-10 is primary CAS vehicle....they scare the hell out the enemy - no questions asked!!

Not exactly. It depends.

I think C-21 pilot has his tounge firmly implanted in his cheek.

The answer for A-10/ F-16s is that the assignment to Korea is a remote PCS. It is by no means mandatory, but with the overmanning of the Fighter Community it is one of the more plausible ways to steal another year in the community. The Vipers are at Kunsan and Osan, but the Hogs only at Osan. As far as escort, not in the hog buddy! I have enough trouble catching up with a tanker with his flaps down, much less escorting him. We do Helo and Herk rescort, but that's about it. Other than that we follow a bunch of convoys around with a Litening AT pointed at them.

THUNDER!

Thanks Psych, huge help.

I'm surprised to hear that the Korea PCS is optional. For some reason that's a huge factor for me in considering what to fly.

Why? It's only 1 yr.

You'd better think your situation over very hard, then. Expect a year to Korea, Iraq, or Afghanistan fairly early in your career,... as well as numerous TDY's.

Your glass should be "half full", not "half empty".

Some guys have stayed here for up to 12 years, it depends on your career goals. The standard for the most part is about 4-6 years depending on your year group and IDE school situation.

Not really sure, hard to explain. It's more the Korea part, not the length.

I wouldn't worry about this stuff at your stage in the game. Go to UPT and do the best you can. I did 2 years in Korea and it went by so fast I barely remember I was there.

**Insert "Typically"

Tongue is back where it belongs...

Thanks for the education.
