St. Joe's, MO - Ramada was decent - hot breakfast slips issued at check in, (good breakfast) pool was filthy, I couldn't see the bottom. workout room closed all week. it's probably been closed for a while. Whiskey Creek bar & restaurant attached. Drury Inn (816-364-4700) offers free hot breakfast bar with room stay. Nice hotel, but not a resort by any means. But clean and adequate. Indoor pool if you do that sort of thing. Cost is right at Max Lodging Rate. Nice place to stay if going thru R

Biloxi, MS - The place to stay is the Beau Rivage. Casino Magic is a HORRIBLE second choice!!!!! If the Beau Rivage is full try the Grand Casino(MGM), there is one in both Biloxi and Gulfport. I recommend Biloxi first even if you land in Gulfport. Boomtown is only a Casino and considered the "LOCALS" casino. The Emerald Palace is new and very, very nice although a bit isolated. The Palace Casino is another smaller casino BUT they just added a good size resort and from what I hear they are VERY n

Duluth, MN - Duluth is not as bad as you may think. Their is an area on the waterfront with outstanding hotels and brew pubs. The ANG uses the Days Inn for their out of towners, but don't think you have to go there!!!!!!! The Comfort Inn and Suites looks very nice with a view of Lake Superior. Overall great food......nice people! Try not to stay greater then one night if possible. Fitzgers is the local brew and rates as an OUTSTANDING. Minneapolis, MN - Holiday Inn Metrodome is downtown, near

Selfridge ANGB, MI - Holiday Inn Express was pretty nice. For min time on the ground, this place isn't all that bad. The base gives you a U-drive and there are plenty of bars and restaurants around the area (i.e. Hooters). The rooms at the Holiday Inn Express were surprisingly spacious and the hotel was in a central location. Again, we were only there for 16.5 hrs so we weren't able to explore too much. Hopefully, someone else will add to this. Baymont Inns & Suites (586) 296-6910 was decent

Springfield, MA - Springfield Marriott is a great hotel 20 minutes from Westover ARB right in downtown Springfield. Hotel is attached to a mall with a pretty decent sports bar called Champions. Westover ARB, MA - Best Western Sovereign Hotel (413) 781-8750, fax (413) 733-8652 was okay. Probably the best you're going to do in the west Springfield area of mass. has three bars + an indoor pool and a small gym. good selection of cable channels and nice tv's in rooms. the best part was free shrimp

Andrews AFB, MD - ATTENTION CREWS: Avoid delays by referring to the PREFERRED ROUTING posted in baseops when filing your flight plans out of Andrews - or you can expect delays with your clearance! Andrews Base Ops... Make sure you use the proffered routings out of Andrews. Once again TACC does not use it. The Lazy Slugs at Andrews have not updated the Route book for 3 years. I have asked them to do it several times but they blew me off. These routes are updated every 56 days. Proffered route boo

Bangor International, ME - We had to divert in to here twice to get maintenance. The Maineacs (ANG) are extremely helpful. Met us at the plane with airstairs, U-Drive, and hotel reservations at the Holiday Inn. On the outbound leg they we able to hook us up with canned flight plans since the Coronet Shop is there. Ops stocks a full supply of Maniacs paraphernalia if those stickers aren't enough. You can't get flight lunches but if you stop by the commissary they make really good sandwiches at th

Alexandria Int'l, LA - is not a garden spot, but the Staff at the Hampton Inn Alexandria 318-487-8500 was EXCELLENT. The came and picked my crew up at the JET!! Then drove us to the hotel, drove and picked us up from dinner, lunch, you name it, and then back to the Airport to the bottom of the airstairs. The actual hotel is the usual Hampton Inn, but the service of the people made it a great stay!! The person to talk to.. Julie Ann..she will hook you up! Also, it's not mentioned anywhere, and th

Louisville, Kentucky - The Gult House - stay away from this hotel. Not only is it over the limit, it's not worth it. Maybe it was bad timing but the hotel was mobbed. It took 10 minutes to get an elevator everytime. You couldn't get food in the hotel unless you were willing to wait 1 plus hours. The FBO at the airport does not provide transport to and from the hotel. You're on your own or the ANG can help you out if you beg. Best bet in the future is to let the Army users know ahead of time or t

Cedar Rapids, IA - If you ever end up in Cedar Rapids stay at the Collins Plaza Hotel next to the Rockwell-Collins Business Center. It is the best place that offers a government rate. For nightlife try the Irish Democrat which has great atmosphere and a six person crew can fully enjoy themselves without spending their entire per diem. ~The Best Western Longbranch was a pretty nice hotel offering a military rate as well. The three buildings are connected by a skywalk. One building has a pool, hot

Chicago, IL - The Intercontinental (312)944-4100 is a fabulous hotel located right at 505 N. Michigan Ave (gov. rate) near the bars (Hard Rock Cafe) / restaurants / shopping, etc. About a 30-minute bus ride from O'Hare. Absolutely outstanding location near infinite great restaurants and bars. Superb service and great view, even a doorman in a top hat to open the door for you. The bar section of town is on Division Street. ~Embassy Suites - Downtown Lakefront. Fantastic hotel in downtown, walking

Boise, ID -The Club Doubletree (208) 345-2002 is a great hotel at the gov rate with a full-sized lap pool and gym. Close to the University. This Doubletree Downtown hotel was nice but we did have some problems on check-out. The hotel quoted us the military rate on check-in and then charged us full price on check-out. The manager's response was "too bad". Good bar (lot's of Southwest flight attendants), just make sure you get the price in writing. The Homeword Suites is great. Huge rooms, pool

Augusta, GA - Your typical Southern town, pretty nice place to relax after a long mission. The airport is small and easy to operate in. They will most likely park you at the base of the tower. The people at the FBO (Bush Aviation) are very helpful and have a decent flight planning area. Their frequency is the same as UNICOM (122.95), and if you can get a hold of them inbound, they will have the power cart ready upon arrival. As far as where to stay, try the riverfront. It's a nice area with nice

Eglin AFB, Denstin/Ft. Walton Beach FL - Be careful when they put you up (ACC Base). They love to split the E's and O's. Officially, they quote a piece of the reg that states that you are required to house us all either on base or in one hotel off base. At Eglin, however, even if you have it all set up to stay together on-base, they will bump you E's to the VAQs that are 7-8 miles across base.~I am in week 3 of a 30 day TDY here. I am a Major and have an old Q room with no A/C. They don't turn i

Dover AFB, DE -The Comfort Inn is probably the best bet since it's next to TGI Fridays and a Outstanding BBQ place called Where Pigs Fly. Very Friendly staff and much better than most of the hotels in town that are dumps! avoid the following rat traps at all costs: Econo Lodge (rats), Holiday inn. If billiting trys to send ya out of town for rooms and it's not race weekend call the Sheraton and see if you can get them to come down to the military rate, it's on the other side of town but close to

Hartford, CT - Hilton Hartford was decent. Tac Air at Windsor Locks/Bradley International was very helpful and friendly in assisting us with our last minute reservations when our plane broke. We stayed at the Hilton in downtown Hartford, which was decent, but I would expect a little more for a $120 hotel room. The hotel was right downtown, and we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. City Steam, Morton's, Lord Jim's, and the Pig's Eye pub were all good places to eat/drink, within walking distan

Buckley AFB, CO - DoubleTree Hotel (303) 337-2800 was the best. Free hot breakfast not skimpy continental, the best hot cookies I have ever had delivered with my room key and one of the best rooms I've ever stayed in. Very close to Buckley AFB if you're flying in. Recommend heading out for dinner at Cool River, the best restaurant I have ever dined at. This place has fine dining, a separate cigar lounge and live music all in the same building. Don\'t forget the best wine available. If you're a h

Little Rock AFB, AR - Going TDY to Little Rock? Read our Schoolhouse Gouge first! Do not let billeting send you to the Inn of America, period. The rooms are poor (noise from the stairwells reaches the rooms, the AC units are old and loud, and the hotel personnel attempted to double-up our crews). The Comfort Inn is noisy and is full of lovely things like bugs and Arkansans; but they have the full setup with fridge/microwave/coffeepot, as well as daily breakfast, indoor pool, jacuzzi, and exercis

Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson AZ - There is a GREAT Marriott downtown (2nd Street) right at the edge of the University and so close to the bars, etc... Another Marriot in town is the Courtyard Marriot. Staff is extremely helpful. Restaurant has nice breakfast buffet each morning. Hotel has swimming pool, whirl pool, work out room etc. Very convenient to restaurants, shopping and even to base. Not as close to U of A as some may like however. Embassy Suites is $58 a night for off-season and the on-sea

Birmingham, AL - Days Inn was a dump. It's the Day's Inn by the Airport in Birmingham Alabama. The pool was brown and black, the water that is... the rooms were not clean, one room the sheets were torn.. not a pleasant experience... Huntsville, AL - Candlewood Suites is excellent in that it has government rates that max out the Per Diem, but there are a few things I wish I knew before I went there. Huntsville had an E-Coli outbreak while I was there; I ate at Logan's Steakhouse and Atlanta B
