  1. Yeah, PC12s. It's not a restricted ATP, it's a restricted 737 type rating...the ATP would be unrestricted.

Totally gummed that one up guys, sorry, I completely misunderstood the lady when I talked to her the first time... Thanks for the help and getting it all cleared up

So what's the actual restriction? Will they only give you an SIC type?

  2. That makes sense, basically what I was implying was a military pilot with 750TT and 50ME can potentially get hired by an airline because they meet the minimum requirements set forth by the FAA, but not those applying to meet the regular requirements set forth by the airline for those who are not military/prior or have lower requirements for age, time, and certain degrees. It is a bit of a stretch on my part, because for the most part airlines minimums seem to reflect the final rule going into effect. That is why I am bringing this up. Minimums might just be minimums regardless of having a restricted ATP via the military requirements, even though it satisfies the FAA to get into a 121 cockpit.

As far as adding .3 to a sortie, I believe you can depending on the airline, and possibly to meet their minimums. Under that pretext, I would assume it is because of the definition of flight time in section 1.1, then the resulting requirements after set forth in part 61.51 (Pilot logbooks and logging flight time).

The point being, monitor flight times separately, then combine and add if allowed by a certain airline. Corporate; no idea, I will ask around.

Last time I looked, the legacy carriers on AirlineApps don't recognize restricted ATPs; they only allow you to claim your ATP if it's full up. Can't speak for PilotCredentials, but my guess is that it's similar.

  3. Does anybody know if you can take the practical with 750 mil hours or is it only the written? I called allatps.com and they said I couldn't take the ATP practical without 1,500 hours. The guy himself didn't sound very confident with his answer though.

Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

    FAR 61.159 and FAR 61.160

  4. The Pentagon Wars by Col James Burton was recently re-released for the Kindle. It should be mandatory reading for anyone in the armed services. It's got some stellar first hand insight into Col Boyd's theories and impact, the inner workings of the military-industrial-congressional complex, and how we got where we're at today as a military. Among other things, Col Burton put his entire career and livelihood on the line to ensure the Bradley Fighting Vehicle wouldn't be a coffin on tracks for our ground pounders.

It's been a while, but I remember the HBO movie based on the book being decent.

  5. If you're getting a restricted ATP, the actual restriction is defined in FAR 61.167:

    (b) Limitations. A person who holds an airline transport pilot certificate and has not satisfied the age requirement of §61.153(a)(1) and the aeronautical experience requirements of §61.159 may not:

    (1) Act as pilot in command in operations conducted under part 121, §91.1053(a)(2)(i), or §135.243(a)(1) of this chapter, or

    (2) Serve as second in command in flag or supplemental operations in part 121 of this chapter requiring three or more pilots.

It shouldn't ever really be a factor because you'll meet the hourly requirement before you're flying as PIC in a 121 operation.

Also, like Jaded said, make sure that you fill out a paper 8710 for your checkride; IACRA hasn't caught up to the recent changes made in the FAR, so there isn't a "box" to check for a restricted ATP. Good luck.

  6. Ok, I'll ask the stupid question...

If I understand correctly, the 750hr requirement for military starts after the regs change this summer. If I take the written 1 Aug, will I be grandfathered into the 1500hr requirement since I didn't do the newly required sim/ground school that was supposed to be done in order to take the written?

BTW, thanks guys for all the good info.

Negative, the 750 hour ATP rule for military members is in effect currently for the PRACTICAL test (checkride). Like jazzdude said, the thing that changes in August is the requirement for the written NOT the practical. So, take the written now, while there is no prerequisite.

  7. After searching, couldn't find this answer...

Is there anything that prohibits you from taking the ATP written prior to achieving 1500 hours? I'm going to be really close to 1500 by July, but I thought I'd check.

Negative, and there's nothing stopping you from getting your ATP at 750 hours if you graduated from UPT; the 750 hours allows you to include civilian time per FAR 61.160.

  8. The only article I've found: 6 die in UH-60 crash

KABUL - Six U.S. soldiers serving with the NATO International Security Assistance Force were killed when their Sikorsky UH-60 'Black Hawk' helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan Tuesday, officials said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, NATO said in a statement, but a senior U.S. defense official said the aircraft had a hard landing due to mechanical problems and was attacked by militants after it went down.

NATO did not disclose the nationalities of the victims but the U.S. official said they were American.

There were no reports of enemy fire in the area the when helicopter went down, the NATO statement added.

The helicopter crashed in the Shahjoi district of the Zabul province, according to its deputy governor Mohammad Jan Rasulyar.

  9. Agreed, I meant "they" as in TACC.

Yeah, man, my complaint was directed towards them.

During an AIB, will someone from TACC shoulder any of the responsibility if that person signed off on ORM that was in the highest category? Do they even get talked to about it?

"Well, the pilots took the jet even though they were in the ORM "ultra-extreme" category; better just chalk this one up to pilot error/poor pilot judgment."

  10. "Signed off to high by TACC DO, have a safe flight", as mentioned before here nothing will change till they actually start using these tools.

ORM is such a joke. It should be completely transparent to aircrew unless we need to actually use it for safety of flight issues. How many times have we said that here?
