  1. Yes, I can: that rumor is false.

As for PIT, we send a few pilots to PIT each year. For others, we do a local IPUG using the ACC IPUG syllabus. Depends on their background.

Now that Huggy has retired we're short about 6-9 IPs worth of experience! But yes I just got to the U-2 program... We have four 38 only IPs, one of which just came from the B-2. These guys run the 38 shop and oversee all the upgrades. The rest are dual qual'd in the U-2, and quite a few have prior AETC time. From what I understand they tried to get T-6s here but it never panned out.

  2. So here's a good addition to "Chinese Shenanagins"...

SU-27 does "Very Dangerous" barrel roll over P-8. Keeping up international relations of course.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/08/22/chinese-jet-threatened-us-intelligence-aircraft/

    -----------------------------

The Pentagon said Friday that a Chinese fighter jet made “several passes” by a U.S. Navy aircraft earlier this week off the coast of China in international airspace, baring its weapons and coming within mere feet of the U.S. plane.

Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said Washington has lodged a protest to China through diplomatic channels, calling the maneuver “very close” and “very dangerous.”

“Not only is it unprofessional, it’s unsafe,” Kirby said.

Kirby said the Chinese jet made several close passes by the Navy P-8 Poseidon plane, coming within 30 feet of it. He said the Chinese jet did a “barrel roll” maneuver over the top of the Poseidon and also passed across the nose of the Navy plane, exposing the belly of the fighter in a way apparently designed to show that it was armed.

Kirby said it happened about 135 miles east of Hainan Island.

“We have registered our strong concerns to the Chinese about the unsafe and unprofessional intercept which posed a risk to the safety and the wellbeing of the air crew and was inconsistent with customary international law,” he said. “Also … this undermines efforts to continue developing military-to-military relations with the Chinese military.”

The Washington Free Beacon first reported on the incident, saying the P-8 was conducting routine surveillance when the Chinese Su-27 interceptor carried out a barrel roll over the U.S. plane.

As reported by the Free Beacon, this is the second such encounter this year with a U.S. surveillance aircraft – following an incident in April involving a Russian Su-27 flying close to a U.S. Air Force aircraft north of Japan.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

  3. as a former student of hers, I'll say she was a very hard working FAIP and a scheduler, long after the other FAIPs had turned on the beer light she would still be working hard to get the schedule sorted out. She did such a great job we only flew one weekend the entire phase 3, where other flights were sending out 2-3 sorties a weekend. She was also a good instructor.

As for treating studs like children....red headed step children is more accurate. Generally a nice person but had the USAFA, female something to prove attitude.

    Ugh...

  4. This is more of a HOLY CRAP! than a WTF, but I couldn't find a better thread for it. The attached video is a first-hand recording of the explosion today in West, TX. A guy pulled his truck over to iPhone record a building that was on fire. Then it explodes.

On a side note, West, TX is a favorite little town for my family. Any time we're driving from Dallas to Austin on I35, we stop at the Czech Stop there for Kolaches. Some of the nicest people and wonderful food. The families of that small town who were affected by this tragedy are in my prayers tonight.

  5. This one hurts....senseless. That's three fatal accidents on 90 in the past year for the Laughlin family. Lt Col Koontz was a staple, he will be sorely missed. Thoughts and prayers for the family, ESP Zach....

  6. Uhhh, It was more or less about what I expected. Good Bond movie, no new concepts (except for the bisexual villan and feminism). I was more impressed with the first Daniel Craig Bond flick.

Casino Royale was the shit, hard to top...but I think Skyfall was just as good. As much as I enjoy wearing pajamas to work everyday, Bond movies make me wish I got to wear well cut suits and nail the hot secretary.

  7. - Grandfather (dad's side): Bombardier on B-26 during WWII, bailed of stricken bomber over occupied France, made his way back to England via French underground.

    - Father: Pilot (Moody AFB UPT, F-100 Cannon, F-4 Holloman ( deployed Ubon early 70's), New Mexico Guard A-7s / F-16s, retired '99)

    - Me...your humble T-6 FAIP

  8. "In all, seven targets were hit using CHAMP’s high power microwaves in the one-hour test that degraded and defeated the electronics inside the test buildings."

Or just re-commission ENRON to manage their electric grid.

"James Dodd, vice president of Advanced Boeing Military Aircraft, part of Phantom Works said there is a real need for a weapon that can defeat a target and not cause harm to people and structures."

Real need huh? This will be especially useful in Afghanistan...where there are so many electronics inside high rises

  9. Was going to link that myself. For you bag wearers, that's the reason I get mad you wear flight suits when not flying.

Because leadership makes shit decisions for our uniform because they don't wear it! It's terrible even inside in non-combat! Wearing it once a week is fine for the stars who brought us this thing (when addressing Amn, photo ops, etc). I really didn't care that much about staff-weenies rocking their PJ's until I started wearing this tiger-stripped disaster.

Blues are a terrible uniform too and generals wear them all the time...I know one guy even decided everyone should wear them on Mondays

I was super excited when Comm Officers became 17D/Cyber Ops because I thought we'd be getting bags at some point. I mean, we're ops right? Just like missileers and space jocks. Well, we all know how that turned out.

    You are kidding right...

  10. 2. When I left Laughlin 100 years ago they just installed a really cool table that I would like to recreate in the man cave. It was a T-38 wing with a landing gear...the lights even worked....would love to build one

That damn thing weighed a ton! Had to move it when we re-did the O-club bar...it's still there but I've never seen it light up. All the shoeclerk brass sits around it and and giggles like school girls when they get to go ring the bell for "infractions" on drop night.

    http://www.motoart.c...nner-flap-table

It doesn't light up and it costs a ton, but I pine for one.

The question is does it come with the chick?

  11. Please please please please don't ###### this one up.

I's got Thor...how could it possibly suck?

    Quote from 21 Jump Street:

" You see the guys in charge of this stuff lack creativity and are completely out of ideas. So all they do now is recycle shit from the past and expect us all not to notice"

  12. To the bro that said you had intel on moving out between drop and PCS'ing, would you shoot me a PM, I already left for the weekend.

You know your best bet is probably to move your shit out of the dorm into storage and crash on somebody's couch until you leave. Forget trying to find a place off base for only a few weeks.

  13. This whole thread is ridiculous...the fact that we have eroded into a culture where it is ok for some goober to call out a superior from across a f^cking chow hall and not be backhanded for it is a sad, sad fact. Those of you who are of the line of thinking that this ok because it is "the rules" and if you can't follow simple rules, how can you be trusted to follow rules in the air...you are just part of the problem. The current leadership has screwed the pooch by enabling this logic and empowering the "chief syndrome"...it's like a virus that ultimately undercuts our ability to do our job.

  14. Another push for http://www.snackostuff.com/ ....it's owned/operated by an F-15E WSO....they only hiring military dependents...products are good quality too.

Turn around time is also nice: As a mayor, I would order 24 nametags (B-course naming) on a Monday afternoon, and I could pick them up Friday morning....Mardon would never achieve that!

    Cheers,
