  1. I’m curious about the current deployment timeline of different platforms in todays Airforce and just how long you’re gone from home in general. I’ve heard that some planes have changed their deployment schedule in the last 5-10 years. I’ve heard that some special ops communities are gone for 5-6 months and then home for 18 months, C-17s are gone TDY for almost 300 days a year, tankers are at home almost every night but work more uniform hours in the day, other aircraft do deployments for 6 months to a year at a time but are home for the next 2 years, etc. Not sure if this is true or just rumors. Please comment if you know about any of the following platforms. I wanted to make a list in one location to help me and some friends choose what planes we want to put down for in our drop sheet. Various fighters various bombers C-17 C-12 C-21 C-146 C-130 KC-135 KC-46 EC-130 HC-130 AC-130 MC-130 U-28
  2. Not really, those answers were mainly about cross training as active duty. Haven’t heard of anyone doing it when they palace chased or fronted.

  4. For those people you knew who switched over, did someone come to them and ask if they wanted a slot, or did they just post a transfer board up that notified the eligible people? Or did those people have some high ranking contact or know someone high up in AFPC who was able to make a change for them?
  5. I’ve heard it’s possible but rare to switch to an airframe in another command. For example, switching from Air Mobility Command to Air Combat Command. I’m interested in flying fighters at some point in my aviation career: any fighter or being an instructor in the T-38 or T-7 when that comes out. But, I tracked T-1s. I’m happy and excited to fly heavies but it’s always been my dream to fly fighters for a little bit of my career at least. Would it increase my chances of switching over to a fighter if I dropped a special operations aircraft or an aircraft in Air Combat Command like the EC-130 which is switching to the E-37 soon, MC-130, HC-130, RC-135, etc? I’d also be interested in possibly switching over to bombers if that allowed me to fly the T-38 or T-7 or being an instructor in AETC or some other command for the T-38 or T-7. I know the Air Force is short on instructor pilots. Is it easier for one of the commands to switch aircrafts in your career? I would like to fly 2-3 or more aircraft in my long time in the Air Force if possible.
  6. Does anyone know of anyone who flew cargo/special ops/tanker aircraft active duty and then palace chase / palace front to a fighter unit with the the guard or reserve? I’ve seen on bogidope that most of the units specify on the hiring memo that they are only accepting people who flew in that specific airframe for example. But I’ve heard that it’s very rare but possible for people to switch from active duty heavy to active duty fighter and slightly less rare and possible for people to switch from active duty heavy to guard/reserve fighter. Curious if anyone knows someone who did that and how they did that. Couldn’t find anything about this in any other forums.
  7. Is this method of selection still used where they send potential selected applicants out to interview and then to fly a few different aircraft? Or are people solely accepted by just the application and recommendation letters without even an interview?

  9. 1. Do they usually accept one person from a majority of airframes in the USAF inventory? It looks like this from watching some of the class videos on Youtube. 2. What percentage of people accepted are fighter pilots or cargo pilots or tanker pilots? Are cargo more desirable than tanker pilots or does this change board to board and year to year? 3. Also, does anyone know what TPS graduates do for the Air Force after? I see people saying that they work in the pentagon after but what do they do there? I imagine they would want someone from every airframe to help test any new avionics or modifications (like new engines or winglets) that their airframe would get in the future.
