If you're looking for job satisfaction as a CSO.. ACJ is where it's at IMO.
Can I get your thoughts on the potential of being a CSO in the new Armed Overwatch airframe?

Copy—thanks for the heads up! Looks like no dice for me then, but congrats to those selected for an interview!
None for me either. On to the next my guy!

Anybody hear anything from the 77th out of NC, or perhaps the 117th out of KS?
Thanks for any intel y'all may have!
117th has sent out interview invites. Middle of last week I think.

I'm currently in UPT 2.5, and have talked to a few people who were Guard fighter selects that did not track 38s. They got their wings still, since it happens after the T6 phase completes, and they are now kinda scrambling to find another Guard (non-fighter) squadron to take them. It's in line with the new "universally assignable" mentality that big blue is pushing for with getting winged after T6s. As I've understood it, your service commitment is firm after getting winged, regardless of 2.5 or not, and regardless of whether you track the airframe you were originally hired for in the process of getting winged.
Are you saying that even guard guys can end up on a platform other than the one they were selected for?

Live off base. People think that the 10 minute drive to work will somehow make or break their UPT experience, it won't. If anything it's 10 minutes to clear your nugget going to/from work. Get a roommate and a decent house and throw some ragers. Your future self will thank you.
My wife will be attending UPT with me if I get picked up. In that case would you recommend living off base still?

Thank you for your detailed reply NABO!
Seeing as how things could potentially work out for me I'll indeed be making this push. I still am a tad concerned that I may not have many extracurricular activities in my life that would wow people. As a result I'm struggling to think about what would make me appear good enough to interview outside of just getting to meet the people when they have open meetings.
Based from what I've read it seems like the general advice is to go to open get-together of the squadrons that you want to join and just be social with the people (basically "rushing"). One squadron I read said that they don't do individual tours and they invite "selected candidates" for the weekend of interviews. In this case how would you introduce yourself before applying? I did notice that other squadrons have, at least this year, wrote that they were considering visits and you were able to call to schedule it.
Edit: Managed to find a podcast about rushing squadrons. Pretty much answered my questions. In a way the process isn't convoluted and seems pretty straight forward. Just gotta pick up the phone and call the relevant point of contact it seems.
Couple of things to note (sorry I’m late to the thread). I’m also 25 years old. I just graduated college (much lower GPA in a “fluffy” degree), my PPL should be finished in the spring. The first thing I’d like to mention is your desire to go into Federal law enforcement. I’ve been a police officer for almost five years and am friends with several who have gone on to state and federal LEO jobs. I will caution you, most I know of said it wasn’t what they thought it would be.
Second, what podcast did you find? I’d like to tune in. Good luck!

What do you want to know? I’ve seen a ton of job listings in the medical field here. Granted, I haven’t looked at any listing for about 7 months but I don’t expect it to have changed very much.
Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile appI sent you a pm.

Large medical job market for most of the TNANG based, especially Nashville and Knoxville.
Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile appFunny you mention that. We currently live just outside of Nashville. She's a student at a school down there. Knoxville is on my list of units to put in for. Can you tell me more about the job market you mentioned out there?

There are a lot of hospitals in the Northeast and all the Guard/Reserve bases that i can think of (besides Bangor) are within an hour’s drive to either Boston, Hartford, Providence…
As I think it through with the exception of maybe Bangor, Mansfield and Grissom all the other Guard/Reserve bases are pretty close to urban areas. Minneapolis, Detroit, OKC, DFW, Denver, Phoenix, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte, etc.
What’s your definition of a major hospital and what’s your definition of close?
I’d have to let my wife answer that one, she’d be the one making the drive. Likely we’ll end up finding a house somewhere between the Guard base and the hospital.

Most ANG units are in great locations. What areas are you looking in?

Just about everywhere available except some California units and units in the northeast.

Funny that you said Guard units are in rural areas. I can't think of a single unit (especially with airplanes) I'd call "rural." I guess we just have different definitions.
My point is that, hospital or not, there's going to be an OB/GYN clinic in whatever town you find yourself. Anyway, good luck man. Nursing is one of the nation's most transportable fields.
Thanks for the reply. I supposed I shouldn't say rural. But many ANG units are located 45 minutes to an hour outside of major metro areas. The commute isn't ideal but it is doable!

Yes. Actually finding an opening is a different story. USAJobs shows mostly VA and Indian Affairs openings.
Does she not want to do civilian practice? What specialty?
Women's Health NP. She obviously wouldn't mind a civilian practice; however, many of these guard units are rural and don't have a hospital nearby. Plus the convenience of working in the same area, cuts down on drive time, etc.

I'm applying to several Guard units in hopes of flying. My wife is about 1.5 years from graduating as a Nurse Practitioner. Some of the Guard units I'm applying to are not close to major hospitals. Do Mil hospitals employee civilians (specifically Nurse Practitioners)?
I've used to search feature for this topic, but I couldn't come up with anything.

I boarded three times, applied four times. The date I have listed here was the board I got hired on. I started taking the tests while I was still in college, and didnt board for the first time until 2017 if I remember correctly.
Makes sense. Thanks for the reply, and congrats to you.

Can I ask why the long break in time between your AFOQT/TBAS and your board? Multiple applications? Or did you just wait for a particular unit? I'm 25, taking my AFOQT and TBAS after I graduate this October.
