  1. First off I'd say relax air force careers always work themselves out. Going deeper yes CAF assets mainly fighters we are at a bigger disadvantage. There's a lot more boxes to check in fighters such as 2-shp/4-ship flight lead, ip, eval. Vs maf where its just going from the right to left seat as a AC.

We are screwed for wic/CC but it's an age thing, didn't know there was an age limit for wic until I chatted with my wg/CC (patch and former F15c guy).

If you do want airlines in the end maf would be better option as you gain hours 2-3x more than fighter guys doing "around the flag-pole" missions. Hours are a big thing airlines look at among other things.

But in the end I'll say go to UPT with an open mind. Have a #1 choice for both maf and caf but that's it. The beauty of UPT is we don't need to decide until the end and who knows you might hate pulling Gs.

And I have you beat, I just hit 7yrs and will be turning in my PRF during upt.

Doesn't sound like a bad gig but they might as well just put everybody on the RPA syllabus at doss. More experience even in the da20 is better than less.

There was a time where the AF was going to do the reverse and do less. At the height of the pandemic they stopped doss for all but UPT students. During that time they were considering making no doss permanent RPA students. Luckily they listened to us at Randolph and saw how poorly those students were doing and turned it back on.

  3. Just do a cost comparison worksheet and you should be good.

Anyone have any luck with their IFT DTS auth and driving your POV vs flying? The email I just got said the directed mode was flying, but I’d rather have my POV even if I’m not reimbursed for everything (or at least up to the cost of the flights)

Is there a written rule somewhere about the Capt+ being able to go straight off base? Everything I’ve read is if you’re “single” you can be on the hook for on base.

The way I interpreted it and probably should have written it this way, capts have the "ability" to stay off base. Also depends on how full the dorms are.

  5. 45-60 days prior is pretty standard per AFPC. There's a lot more inprocressing to do at formal training bases than a normal pcs additionally there's some required tasks (observe events) that CB requires prior to start unless you're guard/reserve or have previous experience (previous white jet IP time, etc).

All single students are required to stay on base unless you're a Capt or higher. I would say stay on base for the ease of convenience to everywhere you'll go. At least that's what I'm doing but I'll be in family housing.

Honestly, a simple name patch should work. Your base will order you one with the correct color combo when you arrive. As long as the one you get for IFT is in regs, you're good with whatever color you want.

Fair point, forgot you'll pcs to upt after IFT, it was reverse when I went through so I got my name tags before going to IFT.

Bean, I was having issues with that last week, but I received wise advice to reach up to your Sq/Gp exec staff to request assistance. If the uniforms are something your unit agrees to provide, they can point you to the right person or resource. Through a few phone calls and favors, mine was able to point me to a flying squadron that had an extra supply which is another avenue you could try.

Brings me to a uniform question: does anyone know what color each UPT base name patch is supposed to be? I was told from previous IFT classes that your assigned UPT base typically has an associated color for the name patch, which makes it easy to see who will be going to which UPT base at a glance during IFT; since I haven't gotten any indication of my UPT base, I'm tempted to make 3 different ones...

Don't order any name tags, whatever base you go to will provide you with all applicable patches to include name tags. They'll reach out to you or when you get there you'll fill out a form with what name you want on it and any badges/wings you have.

Only thing you could order if you want is some pen(pencil) tabs. I get mine from reaperpatches.com

Flying squadrons are required to provide new members with all the normal patches. Usually the only stuff you pay for are pen tabs, Friday patches/name tags, or extra patches if you need them.

For currently rated bros w/ no med issues , current FC1, and PPL...I'm assuming we just get orders for UPT and don't have to go to IFT/MFS again right? Can't imagine big blue would want to spend any extra $ on us to do so, but just wanting to confirm.

With a PPL you get to skip IFT, MFS though it depends on when you went there last time but im not sure how long ago it can be. I went through MFS initially for RPAs back in the summer of 2014 and AFPC told me today via email that I have to go back.

The portal page says 30-45 days after official notification expect to start receiving assignment RIPs for training with events (presumably MFS) starting as early as March 2022.

Perusing the '21 board forum here some selectees haven't even started UPT yet so it would seem the pipeline is in one heck of a logjam right now.

Yep everything is pretty backed up right now. Covid did a # on all the pipelines. My Sq at randolph was blessed to not get hit that hard but we were only pumping out about 80% of our RPA pilot quota. Whereas the 2 t38 sq's got crushed, they had to shutdown for 2wks and are still flying on the weekends to catch up, all the PIT sqs are actually. This snowballs in 2 ways, fewer IPs to teach and a slower IFF process for the fighter guys means slower UPT process overall.

Weird part about the strats is that I was 5/6 for my wing and got picked up. I actually think most of the guys at my wing did get picked up which is a little strange but awesome. I'm guessing the board really liked my LoR and personal letter.

Side note, I'm still sad about Randolph not being an option anymore but oh well.

same about Randolph, I wouldn't have to PCS and just walk across the street.
