I recently retook the AFOQT, and all my scores that could go up did, namely my Quant. However, for unfortunate algorithm reasons, my TBAS went down. Do you think it is worth retaking the TBAS to try and get an ANG Fighter slot? I have enlisted with an F-16 unit as a maintainer, and am shipping to BMT on 4/22, so this would be while at tech school/early next year. I've included scores and background info below. Thank you. Age: 28 Day Job: Legacy Airline 737 FO 5600 hours Bachelors with a 3.8 GPA Warbird and formation time (working in a FAST Card and T-33 type rating, expected Q2 2026) Current Scores: P:99 CSO:99 ABM:97 ACAD:89 VERB:94 QUANT:76 PCSM:88 Old scores for SA only AFOQT: P99 CSO99 ABM96 ACAD70 VERB79 QUANT56 PCSM: 94

Update: Thank you for all of your advice. I swore in at the end of September and am shipping next month to BMT as a 2A3X3. I also retook the AFOQT (P:99 CSO:99 ABM:97 A:89 V:94 Q:76) and started flying a T-33 shooting star with a penciled-in type rating this time next year. -

I actually already fly warbirds, and am working on my FAST card (airshow formation qualification), but that's just burning avgas for the sake of burning avgas. Sure it's fun, sure it's challenging, but there's no mission, no greater purpose. I just feel like a wannabe, and let's be real, there's nothing more pathetic than a wannabe. Same with the major job. Yes, it's financially wonderful, but there's no camaraderie, no particular challenge at this point, just time to get senior and fat. Stuck doing just that for the next 40 years and knowing I left a stone unturned (enlisting) would, at the risk of being melodramatic, haunt me for the rest of my life. Thanks. -

Some units have said they won't interview me unless I enlist, period dot. The unit I'm going into guarantees an interview for internal enlisted personnel, which is more than can be said for my entire application history to this point. -

I have not gotten any interviews. Feedback typically varies between none at all, you're good, but not this year, and to rush more (even though the squadron website explicitly says rushing is not allowed). I have gotten some actionable feedback in the form of improving my cover letter, but that was only really from one unit (the one I'm enlisting in). Other units have said I'm SOL as far as they are concerned unless I enlist. I'm aware of the gut punch, both financially and job-positionally, and have prepared for both. I've applied to some non-fighter units and have also come up with nothing. At this point, I want to serve in some way, I'm tired of waiting, and am not getting any younger. -
I've seen some similar topics, but want to run by specific situation but all of you. I've been trying to get hired by an ANG fighter unit for going on 5 years. ~18 rushes and ~50 apps later, I've come up with nothing. I'm of the mindset of fighters or bust (I know, I know), and as such, have started the process to enlist in one of my dream units. Now, the paperwork has already started, so the die is cast on some level, but I guess I want to know if I just shot myself in the foot? Background: Legacy FO 5k+ hours (not that it matters) Bachelors with a 3.8 GPA AFOQT: P99 CSO99 ABM96 ACAD70 VERB79 QUANT56 PCSM: 94

No, they are not done with processing apps yet.
-
Haven't heard anything about that.
-
No, someone said mid-July, and that would checkout with what they did last year.
-
I have not heard anything yet UPDATE 6/22: Sent an email to the guy collecting applications, and it's out of his hands, but he said he would ask. Reading between the lines, it sounds like invitations haven't gone out yet.

Different units seem to have different key items. Someone high test, scores, many emphasize, being local, some care less about being local over flights experience, some you need to know someone.
-
Generally speaking, yes.
-
Sigh, I didn't get anything from Toledo, but I guess that answers that question

I haven't heard anything

Hey, does anyone know when we're supposed to hear back from Selfridge A-10's?
-
I’ve applied to Duluth multiple times, same result.
-
Rog, is what it is, thanks.
-
Do you know if they sent everything out? I haven't heard anything yet.
-
Nothing yet for me
-
Rog, thanks

Anyone hear anything from Atlantic City F-16's (177th) or Duluth F-16's (148th)?

I have not heard anything
-
Yeah, I did.
-
Nope
-
I have not, so I imagine that means no.
