So complacency of “nothings going down tonight, let’s play some Xbox” was in full effect.

I had internet in my CHU in Iraq and B-Hut in Afghanistan. The internet was really good in Afghanistan.  Got on top of my CHU in Iraq and slapped a 4 ft antenna on top and never had to go to the Community Center. You think I'm rolling out of my CHU with my M-9 with my baby momma on video chat looking all good?

  2. Expeditionary Mindset - Complete loss of SA on the peacetime aspect when you are captured because you strayed across a border during an exercise in a military vehicle. How do you handle yourself? Thinking of Navy P-3 crew who declared an IFE and landed an ISR asset in China. They received specialized training for peacetime that I was fortunate enough to attend as well.

Most countries will quickly realize SrA Hung and SSgt Ball are just finance troops. They strayed across the border because both were playing Fortnite on their phones or using the  Polish Tinder app.

Better than "closed for training" all day long. Or how it seems every admin office decides they all need to take lunch at the same time rather than split it up because we couldn't actually be available to those they're supporting. That sounds like work.

SARM office was pulling that crap. I rolled in on them hot. Where is SARM? Lunch... leaving early..WTH?  Have to work at the Med Group or in the MPS for those types of hours.

Staying until 1700 everyday could be an improvement, depending on which base you're at.

To your point, I bet they believe warriors need an obstacle course. ...and that, my friend, is what we are/are making motherfvcking warriors.

Now recite the Airman's Creed out loud,
    ~Bendy

If you want airmen to be expeditionary then you have to train for the fight. All these training days off medical and finance receive, some needs to be converted into days where they shoot, practice MOPP, and combative skills. Most of them will never use this training unless they PCS to Korea to sit in MOPP gear.

When a base was attacked in Afghanistan, a bad ass from special forces went outside the wire to kill one of the insurgents in PT gear. Watching it on video looked really cool. Wasn't AF that ran outside of the wire. When the bases are being attacked it's Special Forces or a Task Force that rolls up the bad people.

Does anyone remember the attack on Camp Learherneck in Afghanistan where the insurgents took out 2 harrier jets? So insurgents were able to penetrate a base held by Marines. Just think about a base with only shoe clerks and Security Forces protecting the base and aircraft.

Shoe Clerk Airbase: "The insurgents are attacking! Did they not see the sign on the gate because we are doing training and X-mas party planning."

Insurgents: Oh, we will come back later.

Why does a pharmacy tech need to be a uniformed military member? Seriously. That question applies to any number of jobs.

A pharmacy tech told me the CSAF has to pick up his meds too. Civilian pharmacy techs at a certain base be like, "we are out at 1700...peace." But the CSAF needs his meds and he called to say he would be late. Oh, our civilians.....

You’re on point. I rolled my ankle playing hoops at ASBC eons ago. I asked my flight CC if I could skip one or two of their retarded “kill the bunny” exercises and just do everything else because my ankle was black/blue and hurt like hell. It was a bad sprain.

After “consulting” with the SQ/CC they thought it best that I just go home and come back again later if I couldn’t do EVERYTHING. I told the captain that he and the CC were clueless (which he didn’t appreciate from a Lt, if you can imagine that), sucked it up and stayed. AF leadership hasn’t changed much in 16 years. Sad.

ASBC died for a reason and only a moron would say you need to do anything at ASBC. ASBC was nothing but stolen syllabuses from ALS, the USAFA, and AFROTC. Kind of like someone asked me if you waive people to do said obstacle course what would happen to us that manage/instruct? I was like it would go away like ASBC. Teach them how to dodge flooding behind a B-hut in Afghanistan.

That's ironic because I injured my back toward the end of ASBC. Instructor said he never knew because I only spoke when necessary. We were like 0/5 for challenges until he put me in charge of one. My class told me I had to run for one of the final class competitions. We can come in first because you are fast they told me. I sucked it up and ran. I found out a year and a half later I ran on a herniated disc.

At SOS some 7 years later, I injure my back. I did the leadership course prior to the  injury. After the injury I was mostly a safety observer. I ran during the last week of SOS and I think one of my classmates got sick. Leadership was trying to pressure the guy to run. During my parting shot speech, I asked my class what happened to taking care of people? Who cares about points for a run because someone drops out. Absolute buffoonery...

One back surgery later, pushing through pain to run was probably not a good idea back in my younger days. It wasn't a back injury. It was a herniated disc pressing against a nerve.

  7. I need you guys to check me. I think I'm in shoe clerk hell. Rant light on:

"If airmen can't complete said obstacle course, they can't graduate. They should be on medical hold. While at this obstacle course they need to practice MOPP and combative skills training to graduate blah blah.."

Me: Enlisted airmen aren't the ones taking out the bad guys based on my deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan unless they are a JTAC or a Sensor Operator. I don't think the CSAF is going to be happy you held a pharmacy tech back because they rolled an ankle and couldn't do an obstacle course. Chances are the CSAF doesn't want to wait 2 hours to pick up his medication at the pharmacy just like the rest of us. Is a rolled ankle going to prevent you from completing tech school to hand out meds? No, then he or she should graduate. The same could be said about  other AFSCs in the AF. Before you deploy you typically receive the training you actually need.

Am I out of order with my thinking?

Worked with someone who had to do a CDI.  Basically, a 20-30 minute brief with the legal office, then they turn you loose to collect evidence.

Shack. I had to do a CDI and my report was 30 pages. My unit was a tenant to the Wing. I told my CC that the JAG office and GP/CC didn't account for people who have mental health problems. They shouldn't be interviewed unless a trained psychologist is present. The AF doesn't know what they are doing when dealing with people. I annotated this in my final report. "Personnel who have to see mental health or are currently on medications as a result should not be interviewed."

    Break-break

Retiring as an O-4 isn’t bad at all. I thought about going guard/reserve but I want my retirement to begin the day I leave active duty, not when I am 58-60. It means moving more and possibly getting terrible jobs, but, it will only be as bad as I let it be especially since the rules of the game don’t apply to me anymore.

A backspace does wonders for removing double spacing between paragraphs. Then you aren't taking up the whole page.

    Break Break

So there is nobody from the 05 year group on BODN? Thanks AF. I'm all by myself now.

Maybe the airman...should stop ing the husbands of her coworkers?

    Next EPR bullet perhaps?

From the article, it said he disagreed with medical on a kid attempting suicide. Kid passed out twice doing drugs and drinking. Said individual said it wasn't a suicide attempt. Guess the kid likes to party hard.

    Well...sure.  But there's also this:

Plus, what he said to/about the 1-stripe Amn is ing UNSAT for a GO.

Agreed. I've done an investigation before where people just outright lie or change their story like in this article. However, we have ushered in a culture of you can't say anything at all and not offend someone. We are at the point where generations of fathers have served, but that is dying out. I wonder why...

  12. Any 05 guys and gals around? I remember the AF holding our year group back a year for promotion. We also survived a riff. I wonder how many folks are actually left to promote? No, I didn't do ACSC because I frankly don't give a d&$n!

This is for my 05 peeps still out there who didn't quit the AF. I think we all love cougars too.

I will add that I disagree that a group cc is mandating that the A-10 dude NEVER wear a bag. So much for letting him do what he sees fit to be a squadron commander.

To your point maybe the students or instructors of the TRS would benefit from seeing a pilot in his duty uniform once in a while as a reminder of mission focus, etc.

Ironically, I threw that card at my CC.

Maybe Maverick can save us in Top Gun 2 by bringing the love and respect back for the bag? That's until flight medicine perma DNIFs him before a high visibility mission for something asinine. Oh Mav, by the way, you're still red in PEX.

Maybe because they are not taking the green bags away...

The guidance I got from AMC and ANG says anyone on aeronautical orders will maintain a sage green FDU.

The only people I have seen/heard talking about the green bags going away are people on Baseops.net freaking out about heritage and looking cool.

99.9% of it IS about looking cool.

My CC told me today one of the A-10 guys who commands a non flying TRS isn't allowed to wear his bag per the GP/CC. I wonder if said individual just hates seeing people wear the bag or just suffers from Support Syndrome? I think it's a real condition guys.

I told my CC I see myself as a recruiter when I wear the bag. I found out what it took to become a pilot by identifying a pilot wearing his bag in Korea. He explained to me what I needed to do as a dumb 19 year old. #1 STFU

365 to 120 days out.  I'd err closer to 365 to minimize 1 year deployment buffoonery.  The MyPers approval took about 3 weeks, so don't believe the timelines on the website.

This is why I specifically asked this question and it's the best advice ever: "Don't believe the timelines on the website."

Is your CC questioning you about wearing a bag? Or are you just trying to not rock the boat? Can always wear it until it becomes an issue...unless your the only one in the cube farm doing it 😉

Apparently, said CC asked the GP/CC if wearing the bag would be okay. He of course said it's a "no go." I never asked my CC whether I have permission or not to wear the bag because I just came off of permissive house hunting. Said CC initiated this conversation on my behalf for some reason with the GP/CC. Why? I don't know. None of them are flyers so that probably sums up the sentiment why this subject was bought up. The bag intimidates people period. Any pilot dawning the bag commands respect in my opinion. People don't like that....

  17. I have a non flying gig because I shacked my gate months. I still receive flight pay and I have to pass my yearly flight physical of course to maintain my flight pay. I figured you bros can back me up or throw some knowledge darts at me to see if a GP/CC can tell me wearing my bag is a no go.  As a rated officer, I assume I can tell him to read the AFI. However, I'm a bit confused  due to some of the things in the AFI. My aeronautical orders are inactive due to my job until I return to a platform. A few of your darts will help me look at this objectively as to whether fight the good fight or not. I retire in 2 years so I'm highly inclined to not care at all. Of course I will follow the letter of the law. Thanks for any help or a good old STFU and color.

AFI 36-2903: 8.2.1.    The  FDU/DFDU  is  authorized functional  clothing  for  wear  by  individuals  who perfrom  flying, parachutist, space  and missile  crew  duties:   Flight  duty  included preparation, preflight, in-flight, post-flight,  and  other  flight related  duties  associated  with  aircraft operations.  The  FDU/DFDU  is  authorized for  wear  by  personnel  with an  Aircrew  Position Identifier  (API)  1 thru  9 and A  thru G  (Rated  Officers, Career  Enlisted Aviators  (CEA) 1AXXX, and 1U0XX).

8.2.3.    Personnel  not  on active  aeronautical  orders  are restricted  to  flight-related  and  space and missile  crew  duties  only.   Exception:   Space and  missile crew  FDU/DFDU  wear guidance  will be  outlined  in  MAJCOM  supplements  to  this  instruction.

8.3.5.    Limited  Wear.   Wing  commanders  or  equivalent may  prescribe  further  limits  on  the wear  of  FDUs  based on  mission  requirements  and in the  interest  of  health  and  welfare of their  personnel.

  18. I show up at my new base and met my CC. It's a non flying gig I really wanted because it's a sweet job in a great spot. My new CC was told that Lt Col was in the bag. He received word a few months ago for this past board. When you are special, you are special I guess. And if he ever needed anything, he name dropped GO ###. All I could do was smile and say cool. I felt really awkward to say the least. My promotion board for next year came up and I haven't done ACSC via correspondence. My CC was like I didn't do it either and people who have to do it twice were miserable at ACSC. I wanted to say I'm never doing it and going to retire in 2020, but I bit my tongue. (Never show your cards.) Then the CC said he knows I want his job next! I almost died laughing. All I need are 2 hots and a cot until I retire.

Non-compliance with...the AFI?  Because the AFI is pretty clear that you shouldn't be writing your own OPR anyway.  So if you're already passed over and running out the clock on retirement, go ahead and fight that battle.  What are they going to do...pass you over again?

Pass you over and make you the first snacko to receive his own patch. Win - win situation.
