Oooooooooorrrrr... maybe he know what he’s talking about and is tired of the “sky is falling” self-fellating this board is famous for.

I do agree the sky is not falling, that all of us who have left and will continue to leave will usher no change in this Air Force.  I accept that now, even though it doesn't make me happy to.  The Air Force will chug on, it will find new bodies to fill its "slots" because either thankfully or not our nation so far has been blessed with those willing to step forward and take on that sacrifice.

However; there is a cost for being so accepting of the sheer lunacy at the top.  Those thinking for an instance that our endeavors in Afghanistan or Iraq/Syria will have any real positive effect on this world are either lying to themselves or simpletons.  Or thinking that if we produce more pilots quicker with more VR and "innovation" that we will some how stem the flow of experience leaving the door, or that somehow that inexperience will reverse the trend of ever increasing fatal accidents is insane.  So no the sky isn't falling but our service has been lowered that much more as a result of this inability to accept these truths.

More will die needlessly flying aircraft that are maintained by ever increasingly stressed out mx shops, inexperienced pilots, aircraft that are vastly beyond their shelf life, and more.

So while I accept that reality, I refuse to defend those reinforcing it as defensible or correct.

Given the fact that I'm at the FTU, there are a long list of people who have not deployed for 45 days as recently as I have.
As for the 179s...I'm totally willing to jump on one of those.  Six months isn't a bad deal compared to a 365, especially if I can go to the Deid instead of Asscrackistan.

I would have taken any deployment over the Died.  My time in Asscrackistan was by far more enjoyable and productive than that hell hole.  I've never had better accommodations deployed than at the Died, but I hated every second of it there.  Mostly because of the people.

You know who doesn't do forced 365s or useless 179s...the guard and the airlines.  Run!

Our T-6 Reservist are getting tagged for 179s as well, I believe they have broken up a few into 90s but there is no guarantee.  Getting a Reserve gig may be a nice hold over until your established in Airlines but long term I'm not sure they will be able to retain very soon.  Too much AD bullshit seeping into Reserves from what I am seeing.

Plenty of tanker pilots got short tour credit this way at the Deid.

    Oh really?  Enlighten me.

I'm not really even sure what you're trying to say here.  Lots of people won't swim in the ocean because of the risk of sharks -- it's irrational.  People citing 365s as the reason they're getting out just aren't being rational, just like people who have a fear of flying because sometimes planes crash.  They're getting out because they're sick of leadership, low pay, the hollow force...or the ops tempo...., and the airlines are hiring.  But they're much less likely to be tasked with a 365 now than they were 5-6 years ago when they were in their first assignment.  So, that just seems like an irrational fear to me.

Side note, 5 of my squadron mates a few year groups ahead of me have all done 365's so I don't get your magical Unicorn bullshit.  The threat is real, and high.  So you can suck that rational.

If the threat of 365s is why the take rate is so low, then the take rate would have been just as low (if not lower) 6-9 years ago when there were much more 365s.  It's a perfect storm right now: Economy is doing well, airlines are hiring at higher rates than seen in the last 15+ years, the wars have not gone down to pre-9-11 rates, more queep, lack of faith in senior leadership, and on and on.  This arguing about 365s wrt to the bonus/getting out is silly...all non-vol 365 requirements could go away (most have) and the vast majority of  guys who are getting out would still get out.

Now, yes.  Because all faith has been lost long ago.  Their chance to make a "pivot" was lost years ago.  Now we are just bitter they ignored an easy fix long ago and have to deal with the stress of jumping ship.  I couldn't be happier with how my separation / airline employment timing worked for me but it was far from a joyful event setting myself up for it.

You want all deployed aide-de-camp positions to go away? When was the last time you saw one of those filled with a non-vol. I get it. Rage against the machine.

Only issue I have with this is more people volunteering for worthless deployments means less people to full other deployments.  All worthless deployments must end.  Mine was my deciding factor in dropping separation the second I RTB'd.

Have everybody qualified in the weapon be able to arm. It’s not hard. Plus if it means I get to wear my own holster without them bitching I’m all for it.

Give them an inch and they will take a mile...   This attitude is how we get to where we are today.            1 week left on AD.....

Down $108 0-4 w/dep in Enid. Sure glad PIT is backed up. Gonna be under the new rate getting there now. Housing is surprisingly expensive in Enid, can’t believe it’s down that much.

PIT is backed up because we only cut 8 sorties from the syllabus.  So if you could hurry up and PA already and suck less maybe you would all graduate on time.  Never mind the record weather attrition.   Jump in on our new VR simulators, you should be ready to graduate in a couple of hours.  Innovate harder for f#$% sake.   Sorry I gota go clean my pant's now, as a blue kool aid drinking guy I am any time any one says innovate I climax immediately now.

I saw them create a helo slot out of thin air for an engaged couple.  So you never know.

My opinion, no clue why mil to mil gets special treatment. No one ever asked me if an assignment was compatible with my wife’s career.

You and people like you are why I'm out in 30 days.  Enjoy your exactly what the AF is looking to promote.  You will go far in this Air Force with that douche attitude.  If you ever complain about good deal police, slap yourself because you are they.

My spouse has put up with much in following me in my AF career, but that is nothing compared to what most mil to mil have to deal with.  I had it far easier than just about any of them, minus perhaps my finances.  I'd still take my position over theirs any day.

  10. Mil to mil, glad I never contemplated it.  The good news is it looks like the AF is getting ALOT better than before actually keeping married together.  The bad news is their record was fairly bad before, so getting better is all relative.   You will both need to talk frankly about both of your goals and expectations.  If one of you goes 38s chances are the other wont be (probability), and depending on your air frames your ability to get co-located can be extremely hard if not impossible.  Going heavy especially already married and you'll have plenty more options but completely forgoing pointy nose may be a issue for one or both of you.  There is no right answer here really so good luck.  Glad I didn't marry mil to mil, I've seen plenty of couples make it work, but you toss in kids and year long deployments on that and no thank you.

In my mind you try to win a war.  There is no timeline.

When all you’re doing is maintaining the status quo...I’m not sure what the hell you call that.

Moose does a much better job of explaining my lack of respect for what we are doing in that region of the world.  Give me a clear obtainable objective and maybe I'd agree its a war.  But we are just spending blood, and treasure for nothing.

After Bastion people suddenly remembered this was a war and actions like the brigade at KAF put the pathfinders on the line in the dark because we had no idea if we were next. T walls instead of a cheap unguarded chain link fence. Crew chiefs were launching aircraft strapped, because of anything is more vulnerable than a parked aircraft it’s a parked aircraft with an APU and engines running. Really it was a wake up call to stop pretending just because you could go to the boardwalk and get ice cream you weren’t in a war zone.

I don't understand how any one can consider a "conflict" like Afghanistan a "War" zone.  Yes stuff is exploding, people are dying, but I'm sorry when you've been at it this long it can't be considered a War any more.  It's like the 3 star making a plea to a auditorium full of pilots that are approaching their ADSC to please stay in because we are needed to keep releasing bombs, support the war etc etc.  I'm sorry but when I've been deploying to that conflict for my entire 12 years in, when that conflict was already 6 years old the whole point becomes lost.

This isn't an excuse for people to get complacent, because that can easily mean you are risking others and your own lives while out there. But calling this long term live action shooting range a "War" gives it too much credit.

  13. I think there may be a little to much credit given to the whole PTN thing.  From what I am seeing locally there is an incredible sense of self worth being cultivated up there from nonexistent results.  While the whole VR thing clearly has some value the inflated sense of it is insane.   Some one says "BIG DATA," "ANALYTICS," and I swear people just about climax in their pants.  I really don't see PTN ever producing any crazy change with how we produce pilots beyond perhaps providing some $$ for new toys which will break within a year, and won't have sufficient support to keep running (aka operations normal) and we will return to grounding our IP force to dust at the UPT bases to make sure the meat is produced in a timely manner.  If that involves more more "syllabus" innovations then I'm sure they will entertain it, until more people can either get themselves killed or class A a lot more iron.   So while this sideshow has been entertaining you'll excuse me while I get back to actual instruction and use the new VR simulators to hide my terabytes of midget dungeon porn.

Rumor out of Corona is this was discussed in detail and ADSCs for advanced flying training are going away as a result.

Not sure on the timeline, but AFPC has for implementation. Logic: atrocious numbers of dudes balking at upgrade over the three year ADSC requirement, and most of them are or are going to be under an ADSC for PCS anyway, so why are they being forced to sign paperwork that's ultimately hurting combat readiness ?

    We shall see I guess....

    Chuck

I'd say too late the damage has already been done but not sure if you damage something that is already destroyed you can call it "more" damaged...
