Drops right now at ENJJPT are about as good as you could ever get. To even have a shot at a heavy you need to be...

Any insight on how I could compete to get a slot?

Not sure how accurate this is but I've heard it's all related to how well you do at OTS; academics, leadership, PT scores, but I've also heard that some people have been offered slots before even starting OTS based on their application. I haven't even received a class date yet but I'm reading through the OTSMAN, HAWK, and TFOT syllabus and trying to ace the PFA in the meantime. Anything else I should be doing?

UncleFunyun, sorry to hijack the thread... Could you explain the process a bit for me please?

Just keep searching and reading threads , plenty of discussion on here.

    Cliff Notes:

1)ENJJPT pilots are better than non ENJJPT T-38 pilots

    2) ENJJPT pilots are scientifically proven to be 2X as good as T1 pilots.

    3) Notes 1 and 2 are likely due to the part in the ENJJPT syllabus where they teach you to get your own ATIS.

    4) Sometimes so many fighters drop at ENJJPT that people who dont deserve them get them, according to the finest FAIPS the USAF can produce.

    5) If you fly -38s and go Heavies, you may have a chance to crossflow into fighters later in your career. If you didn't fly -38s, you're obviously an inferior pilot and suck too bad to ever be a fighter pilot.

That's why I'm gonna work my ass off and try my best. I'm gunning for an ENJJPT slot but I'll make sure to get 38s one way or another

No apologies necessary. There are major differences in the syllabuses between UPT and ENJJPT, but history shows that it doesn't necessarily create a superior product regardless of the ENJJPT talking points.

I think the experience with other countries would be great and it could be enlightening in some ways. I hope to track fighters someday and I hear the drop rate is somewhat better at ENJJPT although not as good as it used to be.

Please tell me this is a serious question and you aren't just trying to be a douche. We already have our quota in the Air Force.

Sorry if it came off that way. I really didn't know that there was UPT there as well as ENJJPT! I'm not trying to be a douche but I can see how my comment can seem sarcastic.

I've been reading up about the different bases and this post just made me think out loud as I only thought there were 3.

EDIT: Scratch that. I see that OP was talking about ENJJPT. Sorry for the confusion, was genuinely confused and wasn't trying to be a dick.

I see you've met life. Lesson #1, it doesn't give a shit about your plans.

You'll be fine, just stay on top of it.

Consider reevaluating your finances. Make sure you have a steady plan, that allows you to save, pay down your debt, have insurance, invest, all those things that will keep you from "accidentally" getting in too much debt to start with.

Although it's tempting to pay debt off ASAP, you also have to get on a financial plan you can stick with or you'll find yourself in this situation over and over.

Great advice. Yeah I'm working on having a good savings account to keep as an emergency fund but I've been using the credit cards as it unfortunately. I'm making progress on it now, but it'll take some time before I've got extra spending money.

    Thank you for the help!

Just be sure to keep ahead of your debt.  It is far too easy to sluff it off and get into trouble.  If you're having any difficulties, contact the companies you owe money to and set up a payment plan.  In most states, as long as your making a good faith effort to pay off the bills, it will stop the debt from being sold to a collection company...

    Cheers!  M2

Good advice. I'm making more than the minimum payments each month, but it's easy to let things get out of hand. At the moment, I'm taking advantage of 0% APR balance transfers until I can get my balance to a manageable value. The debt isn't something that I couldn't pay off in a year or two, but unforeseen circumstances always prolong it... Thanks for the help!

  7. Thanks a lot everyone, I guess now that it's getting closer I'm becoming paranoid. My credit is still pretty good despite the accident. I'll do my best to pay it off in the meantime, but this has been one of the things nagging at me lately.

Not sure why you're paying her medical bills since she is only your girlfriend, but I don't personally know your situation.

In regard to your security clearance, based on the facts you've presented, you should be okay if that is the only thing in your past or present.

Yeah, I know... We've been dating 3 years now and her parents aren't very willing to help. If I didn't pay the bill then she wouldn't go to the doctor and I just didn't want to find out she had a herniated disc or something. When I offered to pay, I was under the impression that insurance would reimburse me but I guess you can't put a price on health or peace of mind.

  8. Hey everyone,

My girlfriend and I were in a little car accident and I've been helping pay for her medical bills and it's really been adding up quite a bit. I'm in a battle with insurance right now to get reimbursed, but between that and getting my PPL, I've racked up quite a bit of credit debt.

My debt to income with O1 pay will still be less than 40% and I will be able to pay off a lot of it in due time. I still have good credit and no late payments. Will I get a chance to explain this to the background investigator? I'm worried that I'll be denied security clearance because of the debt but really it's just bad timing.

  9. Hey everyone, I just recently got my PPL and got a pilot slot and I've been hearing a lot about civilian flight training vs military flight training and want to make sure I'll be up to speed come UPT. Is there anything I can do to adapt? I've heard the patterns, procedures, radio comms, and more are all very different. Does anyone have any insight on this or are the differences not as big as I've heard?

I'm supposed to take the TBAS for the first time tomorrow & am doing a little studying ahead of time. I've gone through the flash cards that I found linked from this forum (http://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/story.php?title=_36014) and am having an issue with the map ones farther down the page.

I understand all of the cards with the red arrow on the heading, but looking at the mini map versions I am coming up with the answer opposite what is called the correct answer. For instance in card 33 (the first of the mini map cards, also attached to the post) it appears to me that the UAV is traveling north (the blue arrow is my own addition). I'm interpreting the yellow cone shown on the map as the field of view, meaning the UAV is traveling north, so I would identify "A" as the North parking lot. However, the flashcard answer says "C." Am I interpreting the direction of travel incorrectly? I get the non-map questions correct, but miss all of the map questions with the opposite lot from what the cards say is the answer.

I would really appreciate it if someone can shed light on this. All of the sudden not feeling good about the test. Thank you!

    TBAS help.PNG

The dot is the "target" and the yellow arrow is your travel direction. This means that the red dot is a building and the test may say something like "Identify the north parking lot." From the picture, the building is to the south of you, so the north parking lot would be "C" as it is the closest. I hope this helps.

  11. Hello everyone,

There were some complications with my application package and my recruiter had to resubmit it. He told me that they received the application on February 17th, the last day that they convened. How likely is it that they still looked at my application? From what I understand, the convening dates just mean that it when we are scored before the decisions are made by someone else. Is this accurate? Is there any chance of them convening after the 17th?

Unfortunately, I don't know the time that they received the application. Now, instead of waiting for a "yes" or a "no," I am waiting for an "if" they even got my application. Does anyone have any insight on this? I'd hate to have to wait another 6 months just to apply. I've been trying to submit an application for over 2 years now and was finally excited to get everything submitted. Is there any chance that they looked at my application?

Edit: It's worth mentioning that my application was submitted and received before the January 17th deadline. It was marked "board ready" and sent to the board. The week before they convened, my recruiter asked AFRS a question about it at which they noticed it wasn't 100% complete and asked him to resubmit it. They marked it as "received" on February 17th.

  12. I'd say not to retake it. I was in the same boat but got the flight hours to get my score up. I'd say just get some hours under your belt and try to get your PPL. If you got time and since your scores are solid enough, I'd recommend not retaking it on the chance of you having a bad day. Remember even if you have a bad night sleep and do worse the second time, your latest scores will be kept rather than the best ones. You can only take the test twice so just go for the experience.

  13. Hey everyone, new here but I've been lurking for a little bit. Just wanted to get some opinions on my application that I just submitted and what I could work on if I'm not selected.

Some details about me... I graduated with a 3.36 GPA in mechanical engineering, but my engineering GPA is 3.81. I have a lot of flight hours, 87 or so, and will have my PPL in the next two weeks (my club makes me take a mock checkride before the real deal and the mock one is this Monday.) My AFOQT scores are 95/92/87/65/99 which puts my PCSM at 86. I have a lot of leadership experience from internships, class projects, and even management and team leader positions in the work force. I did really well in my interview and although it was short, I saw the notes were all positive and "select now" was listed several times.

Although I feel pretty good about all of this, there is a catch. When I was young, (17-19) I made some stupid mistakes and got in trouble with the law on more than one occasion. After 3 different instances of being stupid (1 underage drinking, 1 noise complaint from a party, and 1 false I.D.), I wised up and got my act together. My GPA went from a 2.00 average to almost a 4.00 which is why my GPA is much lower than my engineering GPA. I had to get a waiver for my application, and it was approved, but I'm afraid that it will still severely affect my application. I feel horrible about my mistakes and I take full responsibility for them but there's nothing I can do about them now that I have them. I'm afraid that my stupid young mistakes will haunt me the rest of my life and I won't be able to fulfill my dreams of being an Officer. I was hoping I could get some feedback on how bad this waiver will affect my application. Is the board likely to see that I've turned around and cleaned up? Or do they follow a strict "no tolerance" policy on this kind of thing? Does anyone know anybody that had a similar experience in trying to commission? I'm afraid they're going to look at my application, see the waiver, and just reject it. What do you think?
