Any scoop on if this memo requiring ART/AGR service has been kicked down to the ANG as well? I've skimmed the forums here and elsewhere but all I see is AFRC specific stuff.

From what I gather this is AFRC only. That's from my sponsoring unit as well as a friend who works on the boards.

Could that change tomorrow? Of course.

I uploaded a JPEG of the memo so everyone can read it. I was told nothing about the program is restricted to talk about so it shouldn't be a problem posting the memo.

I really just don't get that. Why make people go full time for less pay. Why not just keep it as is but offer more full time spots. Don't get not paying us the traditional reservist way either. I feel like this would just make more applicants avoid the Reserves and try Active Duty of Guard.

Well that is good news for me hopefully. I also had an age ETP and I turn 30 next month. I also had a second waiver for something else that I hope didn't create a problem for me.

Has anyone heard how many sponsored/unsponsored applied vs how many were selected?

^this! would really like to get that stat.

While it is a full time, active reserve commitment don't confuse it for active duty. You will be a traditional reservist(1 weekend a month, 2 weeks in the summer) who works in a ART overhire position.

For some this will be a problem and it may create an even greater shortage of applicants. Especially for those who already have established careers. This is something you will need to think about before committing.

You will not be paid like active duty, you will not recieve BAH or BAS, you will not receive military health benefits, and you will not earn active duty time towards retirement.

Instead, you will be paid on the GS pay scale with a locality pay increase. The exact pay level has not been released yet, but typically co-pilots start at GS-9 and aircraft commanders get a special GS-12 rate is what I have heard. You will be eligible for federal employee health benefits and you will be contributing towards the federal employee retirement system.

Then whats the upside or point of this?

From the memo that was sent to me, it looks like it is no longer a rumor and is now being implemented. Any UFT graduate after 1 Dec 16 will have the 6 year commitment that starts when you go to OTS. It doesn't seem like it is to bad a deal, but could cause problems with people who take a LOA from their civilian job. They only have to hold you position for 5 year. So this could cause problems unless they build in a break period after your seasoning period.

    What memo

Has anyone heard about the new 6 year active reserve commitment? I haven't seen it mentioned on any sites yet.

I was just told by my sponsoring unit that this is still just a rumor and even for the November board will have no bearing on new hires.

Seems like nobody is talking about the June AFRC board unlike years past. Is there a shortage of applicants again this year? Anybody hear anything back yet?

I'm going for the November board. But would be interested to hear if any sponsored applicants were denied for whatever reason. Or if they are taking unsponsored apps.

I'm guessing you are new to this. I recently got sponsored and what I've learned that there are mountains of paperwork and multiple layers of people within the organization to deal with to get an application pushed through. Not all of it seems to make sense but that is the process. If you have a bad GPA I would be more worried about getting a sponsoring unit than worrying about the board, and if that doesn't work apply to the unsponsored board.

I anticipate getting sponsored soon. Just wondered if it was common for sponsored applicants to be denied at the board

  9. What if you didn't have an easy major, say Civil Engineering from the 3rd toughest engineering school in the country.  I was working full time to pay bills and rent. Also, taking care of younger sister because Dad wasn't around and mom was working all the time. Would the GPA still be such a negative aspect if there was extenuating circumstances around it? I have a really bad GPA and am honestly proud of it. There were many times I thought I was not going to make it but I pressed on and got it done. Do I have a wonderful 4.0 hell no. What I do have is a roof over my head, an awesome job now, and my sister is kicking ass in grad school.

I want more than anything to fly for the AF but it seems they can't get passed my "bad" GPA. Will the ANG or Reserves possibly see that my GPA doesn't represent a kid who didn't try in college and wanted to play video games all day but rather a "kid" who had to grow up much faster than most due to bad circumstances at home and was still able to get an engineering degree.

Yah, we're talking about the active duty board uft. Where you cross train over from your current adsc. Board met January 25-28, results released February 2016.

That's the confusion then. The 16OT02 Rated OTS Board met the same dates but our anticipated release date is March 4th. I guess they fill spots with AD officers first which makes sense.

The Civilian OTS board results aren't anticipated to be released until March 4th. I believe this thread (and please correct me if I am wrong) is exclusively talking about Active Duty personnel applying for UPT.

Universal that makes sense but I was confused because earlier in this thread they specifically mention the release date being March 4th. Also isn't the board called something else when an officer is applying to cross train into another officer field? Enlisted AD still apply to OTS generally the same way civilians do.

Really confused here and really anxious to find out so any info would greatly be appreciated from the AD guys!
