C model T-38 got heavier, and the CG shifted forward due to all the equipment added to the nose.  From a handling perspective, this reduced instantaneous and sustained turn rate and overall nose authority.  While the PMP engines improved the TOLD a bit, they also increased form drag, fuel consumption, and noise.  Today the jet is even more fuel constrained than before, can’t fly nearly as high, and has far more garbage in the cockpit to keep you heads down rather than appropriately focused on the art of aviating.  I’m with Huggy.  From a purist’s perspective, it’s the “A”.

Maybe I’m not a purist... but i thought the C model trained just fine. Unsure why a trainer needs the aforementioned, its not exactly going to combat. If PMP/C-model increased safety and reliability, worth it... because that’s all that matters for initial training.

I don't know the guy but in all fairness this briefing (minus the requirement for said quad-chart, which is popular with the Army) has been required since I was at Dyess back in 2009, and maybe before that.  Except it used to be to the AG/CC before there was a wing commander...I remember briefing my mission to the then-AG/CC and getting questions like "Where are you planning on eating with your crew" and "Who is driving the rental car."  Cosmic mission related questions, I know.

That died in 2014-ish.. when certain deputy and group commanders left.

Then there was a period of ‘trust’... then I left. Apparently bliss didn’t last too long.

Would it make any sense to not use the higher corsswind value?  If the high value was above your crosswind limit and it gusted while you were landing then you'd be trying to land above your crosswind limit

I like the technique of telling the controller what crosswind I need to takeoff/land..the gusts usually take care of themselves.

Plus most regs are ‘demonstrated’ crosswind limits...

But in my case... as bad as things had become in the AF by the time I left in 2014... I still looked forward to going to work every day.

Jealous... I find zero job satisfaction on my third exec gig; nor do I wake up excited to go to work. I love the chances (which are minimal) when I get to fly, and I signed up for the QoL, as did my wife. But you’d be hard pressed to convince me that 12 hour workdays editing endless awards is “serving my country.” Pretty sure my wife would understand my absence better if my long days had a direct impact on national security. To each their own I suppose.
