  1. With what he said above,

Not going to end well and I would be open to other things other than flying.

My pilot training roommate hooked is 89 and is now an intel officer and loving life.

A student of mine in the Viper FTU hooked out and was so relieved when it happened with how much stress it involved for him. My guess is you will also

a)be able to sleep again at night

    b) realize that, although flying is great, it doesn’t define you

    c) realize you can still fly, just probably not as an Air Force pilot

    d) I’m an Air Force pilot and are already looking forward to airline pastures. Grass is always greener

e)be fine in life; you are humble and admitted your mistakes

  2. Who is flying 90 degrees IMC on the wing? Let’s keep it 45 or less and move on. Also, fat amy sucks flying in close formation so I try to avoid it other than flying up initial like most everyone else.

  3. I’ve witnessed a few dudes go from vipers to buffs. By that point one of them was super relieved to transfer. B course was too much/ would have been a ticking time bomb for a class A. If they make it to vipers hopefully the FTU or CAF holds the standard and sends them elsewhere in those cases.

  4. What’s the game-plan when most everyone leaves for the airlines at 10 years? Increase production from 1,200 to 2,000? With what new UPT base/IP cadre?

Everyone I know is prepping for exit (I think I only know 2-3 dudes who are in for the 20 years). Not that I know everything/it’s a small pool of people-but I’m guessing the consensus is the same across most of the communities.

things are about to get interesting…

So I'm guessing the flights had to be out of Edwards.

Flew a few circles in the 6-9 clouds that existed in the southwest US and called it good?

    Air force nailing it.

One punch thrown, now taking one:

Stiff boom issues? Hell, 1/3rd of the current b course class can’t hook up to a boom//take 4 rides to be cleared solo with a tanker. I take blame as the instructor, but I also am concerned for the future of the CAF when tanking/general airmanship Is as bad as I’ve seen.

cudos to the tanker crews the past month that stayed well past their time commitments as we flailed. 🍺 cough —March

They are going to up the UPT commitment. 16 yrs is my guess. This will push some people away, but there will be no shortage of people signing up not knowing what they are getting into. Quality may go down, lowered standards in ROTC/academy for a pilot slot but I think it's coming.

Fingers came and talked to us at Misawa.  We asked him that direct question.

He actually said he wanted to lessen it to 8 years active duty..and 6 years in the reserves.  So yes, more years total in commitment.

Allow AF pilots to fly for the Airlines but still hold on to that experience an extra 4 years..

Let me know if I'm completely out of line, but having an inherent dangerous job, working 14+ hour days, and flying a jet that requires more skill that working at a desk=should equal more pay. I'm making as much money as a COMM officer (who works half that)?  Doesn't seem right to me. I'm not all about the money and would even take a pay cut at this point to fly for the Airlines as soon as I'm done with my 10.

Don't just patch the problem with $30K plus bonus's at the 10 plus year point after I'm burned out.

So now you have a shortened B-course to increase RTU throughput, which means more dudes in MQT in CAF squadrons...which can be a burden to the CAF training programs. All this effort, then you gotta kick that young newly-minted 4FL out the door to go do something else and make room for the next round of LTs.

So is the B course really being shortened? That's a shame.

Last base I left had 1 IP assigned to the Sq that wasn't either the SQ/CC-DO-or Patch.  No way the CAF is going to be able to do MQT upgrades requiring the standard + SEAD + sh** that the B-course cuts out.  Not enough IP's for that....
