  1. That's EXACTLY the right public response. Anything else makes senior folks, and all the folks around them, even more desirable as a target.

Privately, the family should get a personal note and phone call from POTUS, and a significant dignitary at the funeral.

  2. di1630: re-attack! Sit down with your sq/CC and explain what's going on. If your story holds, and losing and gaining bases are good with your dependent, you can win this fight.

Get your wing/CC to get the NAF/CC to talk to the MAJCOM/CC.

Don't take no for an answer. For every rule there's a waiver or exception to policy...and this is the kind of fight you should win.

And if you're in AFGSC, PM me...I know a guy...

  3. Sorry, I don't care how "good for the country" it theoretically is.

It's not Liberty to force anyone in a free society into mandatory compulsory service for anything.

    Ever.

Yes, that includes the abominable draft.

I cannot think of ANY reason, at any time, for a free citizen to be compelled to perform service in the name of government, under threat of punishment or imprisonment.

  4. That should be waived anyway for most folks. I can't remember the AFI off the top of my nugget, but you can refuse any ADSC for formal flying training that takes you beyond your initial commitment from UPT/UNT. Ops check good for FTU instructor course I'm currently in. Suck it 3 year ADSC!

Not 100% accurate. No additional ADSC for upgrade in the same aircraft. Change aircraft (complete initial qual training) and gain the ADSC.
  5. Can you confirm TERA for 2x passed over? I understand if NOT continued a DOS is established pretty much as soon as the board is complete (6-7 months out). And I thought an established DOS made one ineligible for TERA.

I got the info 2nd hand...my understanding was this: the board did not select the Majs for continuation, and since TERA is in effect, they got TERA if eligible for TERA. If TERA was NOT in effect, they'd have gotten separated normally.
  6. I suspect this year's O-5 board results will be eye-opening. I'd like to be wrong though.

Shockingly dismal results in my corner of the AF. Don't remember exactly...something like:

    0/11 BPZ (2 DPs--got 1 ea last 2 bds)

    3/9 IPZ (3 DPs)--got 2 ea Ps last 2 bds)

0/16 APZ (1 DP)--and 3 were second-time pass overs, and did NOT get continued, they separate or TERA by Dec '14. Previously continued pass overs stayed continued.

-Various rated/non-rated AFSCs on staff, w/2-star SR.

-A couple had negative quality indicators, all IPZ/BPZ had all "squares" filled (IP/EP/CC/AAD/Deployments/Combat/etc)

  7. ....Will it burn bridges to spend several grand extra out of the budget? Sometimes what's legal and what's right are different.

Quoted for emphasis. Find out who's paying your bill...spend your taxpayer-alloyed funds wisely...especially if your TDY is unit funded. Talk to your unit FM or DTS or "TDY orders" guy and see what's "standard" for your unit--if it's jiggy with the JFTR, just do that.

I once agreed to let a guy PCS in then go unit-funded O&B TDY to training. I allocated $7K for the month's rental car, airfare, and on-base perdiem and lodging. He spent the month off-base and spent a LOT more, legally, but without our knowledge, and royally pissed off the commander before he'd even met the guy. We paid his bill, of course, but were then unable to accomplish 3-4 other TDYs that year....

    Technique only.

"...Regardless, commitments matter. When we send our troops in harm’s way for any purpose they have to be confident that their country will try to get them home.

Yes, a real price might be paid for Bergdahl’s release; upholding values is not cheap. Yet as Americans we simply cannot toss aside the cherished military ethos of leaving no one behind."

    'Nuff said.
