  1. Hey I have a few questions, I am getting ready to head off to Columbus next week, I would really like to eventually fly a C-130. I was wondering what the deployments are like and when you are home how often are you TDY, and what's the lifestyle like in general in the community? Thanks for the help!

  2. I just had a change in my orders, they moved my EAD, IFS, and UPT dates up two weeks but they took away my ASBC dates and I was told that I wont be going. Does anyone know if it will hurt my career in any way missing my first PME or should I find a way to get sent?

  3. I'm heading off to Columbus at the end of next month, I was told to expect to live in the dorms and that they expect that they will have the dorms "ready" by mid Oct. All they told me was that they are fixing the dorms, they wouldn't tell me what that means over the phone. Does anyone know what that means? And from the look of things, does it look like they will be ready by mid Oct? Also, I like to play hockey and I would like to bring my stuff with me (even though the closest ice I found was about an hour and a half away)because I will be on casual for a few months. Do they give you any kind of storage space at Columbus that is not inside your dorm? I read what other people put down on the dorms, I was also wondering how big the closet space they give you, what the current prices for the internet/cable and maid service, and is Columbus in a dry county? Thanks for the help!

  4. I'm thinking about taking a trip to Germany with my father in August/September and I thought it would be nice to stay in billeting on Ramstein to save a little cash. I was told since it was considered Space-A so I can't make a reservation until 24hrs in advance of me showing up. In this time frame, is this part of the tourist season over there? Anyone have any suggestions in the area that is cheap in the event that a can't get a reservation? Thanks for any help!

  5. You are about the third guy I've heard talk about some "accelerated nav" program. Go back to your det and tell all your bros, this "accelerated nav" program DOES NOT EXIST! You don't get stuck in nav school a phase or two ahead, or anything of the sort. Dudes with flight hours start at the exact same place as dudes without flight hours. Now...I didn't go to ASBC, and it looks like you won't either. Be aware also that your nav school start date could slip back. I had friends here who reported in July and started nav school in December. They were more the exception to the rule, but it could happen. Plan on going to IFS. Everybody here went (even though two got sent local, but still), and the word on the street is nowadays the AF doesn't care if you have your PPL, Commercial, or whatever, you're going. There was a dude in my class there who had something like 3000 hours, flew RJs for Virgin Air, had been a flight instructor in the DA-20, and he still go sent. Granted, he banged through it in about three weeks, but again...you're more than likely going. Consider if twenty-five flight hours on the govt's dime.

Thats pretty what I thought, but what I don't get is my buddy who got CSO at the same time as me has ASBC and IFS dates where I don't. I have my money betting that these dates are going to change

  6. We got our tentative EADs today!

    May 1 Graduate

    May 8 Commission

    May 9 EAD

    June 5 Start UNT

Not sure how accurate this is because I had no IFS dates or ASBC dates, earlier in this post I was talking about my Col trying to put me into a Accelerated Nav Program. He said it pretty much was the Air Force trying to put me through training as fast as possible because of my flight hours. Could that mean skipping IFS and ASBC? Any Thoughts?

  7. We'll be waiting.

Just to clear it up I'm not knocking the BUFF, I think it would be cool to be apart of the global strike command and have a nuclear mission

If you're going to be a nav, we're going to have to work on your tact. E-mail sent.

(BTW, I'm a BUFF guy...I know what you meant, but watch it! Us aircrew are a fickle bunch...)

Thanks for the e-mail! If you don't mind I'd like to send it to some of the other guys who got CSO (One guy who just got it the other day seems to be a little upset it my help him settle a bit). Are you up in Minot?

  8. All you guys worried about WSO slots that I guess are graduating in 2010, don't sweat it. You'll most likely be sent to the new program in PCola, where instead of being picked up for a WSO slot direct out of ROTC, you compete with everybody else for what track you want, and you go from there.

I'm graduating in May 09 and I would love the chance to go to P'cola, I guess all I can do is keep my fingers crossed and hope the big blue decides to send some of us there

  9. A buddy of mine is there right now and he said that the Navy is so backed up in training (about 9 to 10 months) the air force is not going to send anymore people through the pipeline at P'cola until they open up their doors. My cadre even confirmed that a few months ago saying that there is nothing on the books to send people to P'cola for WSO.

  10. Hey! I got picked up as a CSO and what I really wanted to do was be a WSO the bad news for me is that for FY09 I hear no one is getting strike nav. I was wondering if anyone knows of any special programs going on that would put me at P'cola? My Det commander said he is trying to put me into a accelerated nav program (not sure what that means). Also is there a way you can cross train into a B-1 or F-15E from a slick, Spec Ops, or the Buff? Also anyone know any news when the new CSO training program is going to stand up, the last I heard was Oct 2010.

btw I put on my bars in May '09

  11. I'm a ROTC cadet btw, I was talking to my Col and what I was told was because of my flight hours I would skip some of the training and be put in a class that has already started. I have never heard of anything like this, the last thing i heard was no matter how many hours you have everyone goes throug the same training. I know for sure I am going to Randolph because my buddy at P-cola found out that the first true CSO class is supposed to start Oct 2010.
