  1. Conn Ave between the Woodley Park and Cleveland Park metro stops. Plenty of apartments...close to the metro. Walking/cab distance to Adams-Morgan. Home to many college students who are dropping into DC to intern for the summer/semester.

  2. Look, clearly the AF/DoD congress owns the iron and can do with it as it sees fit...

How long did those KC-135Es stay in the guard? Same for C-5As. This guy did some damage over 4 herks being moved from his state...thought he also played a key role in ending Gen Martin's PACOM/CC nom. The NDAA that passed the house yesterday rejects the 2013 BRAC that the White House requested. Make no mistake--aircraft/units do not move without congressional support.

  3. "Although the first F-16 had its first operational flight in 1970, the combat edge aircrew flight equipment, which was optimized for high-G flight, wasn't fielded until about 1988, Lyon said."

So...what you are saying is the viper flew its first operational flight a full four years before its first flight ever....or is someone not proofreading?

  4. That is more in line with what I expected. The single squadron bases typically started off with 12 or 13 but may have gained some along the way. Not sure why Hickam is an outlier on the low side.

3 Jets (198, 199, 200) are extra jets that are at McGuire until they go somewhere else. They were some of the aircraft that congress bought that the AF did not request. The plan (at least when they arrived) was to push them off to one of the ANG/AFRC units that were in the works.

  5. This was sent out base-wide earlier this week...JUST in case you were planning to attend....

    ----------------

    CGOCs,

In this austere fiscal environment, we are all being asked to do our part

and try to reduce travel costs whenever possible. While the Air Force CGOC

believes that no matter the fiscal environment, we need not forget the

professional development needs of our junior force, we also must face the

reality that the attendance minimums needed to meet our financial

obligations for an annual conference are just not likely to be met this

    year.

In that light, we have cancelled the 2012 Air Force CGO Professional

Development Conference, originally scheduled to be held this May in Seattle,

WA. We have been trying to find a way to make it work, but feel it is best

to look for alternative means to provide Air Force-wide, CGO-focused,

professional development opportunities for this year.

The Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) team did a fantastic job of pulling

together resources and creating a quality program, and we want to publically

thank them for all their efforts. Luckily, they are able to transform many

of their events into opportunities for local personnel, so if you are near

JBLM this May, you may want to consider looking into what they have to

    offer.

The Air Force CGOC will be looking for ways to continue to provide the

excellent professional development and networking opportunities that we have

become known for. If you have any ideas, we would love to hear from you!

Please remember, an investment in a junior officer's professional growth IS

an investment in their local mission, as well as the Air Force mission.

Networking internal and external to their immediate career field, a better

understanding of strategic initiatives, leadership lessons and exposures to

new missions and ways of doing business are invaluable tools in making our

Air Force mission succeed. The Air Force CGOC will work hard to ensure we

continue to provide these opportunities to you in the future.

Please contact us with any ideas or questions.

    Chairman, AFCGOC

  6. Once upon a time, it was WG/CC-directed policy at KWRI (but no longer). Gotta support the warriors downrange, you know.

No bullshit, the memo actually referenced deployed folks having to wear PTs.......

He speaks the truth! Thankfully the next WG/CC (actually the new ABW/CC) changed that back week one. Not often do you see dumb policies reversed.

  7. It will take until weapons school graduates are MAF wing commanders before MAF weapons officers are properly used. Not bad, just the normal evolution of understanding the value and appropriate use of a weapons officer.

FWIW, the MAF schoolhouse should be communicating with the wings to make sure the guys are properly tasked.

AD AMW at WRI: WG & OG/CCs are patches.

  8. I thought they were moving charlie to the golf course while they did renovations?

Charlie's DOES NOT NEED renovations! That "worn-down" feel is part of what makes that place great.

On the other hand...if they are closing that place (as lots of SVC/CCs in the past have wanted to do apparently) then that is a shame. She is THE hardest working/most dedicated services employee in the AF. She has what thousands of others lack--pride in her job!

  9. So back to my original question... has anyone on this board been approved for a second masters degree? If so, from where and in what?

Yes, Troy's MSIR. Got another round of TA from the SAF/IA program as Troy's MSIR allows you to do a "regional concentration/focus" which covered the regional/area studies requirement SAF/IA approval & TA. The application process (this was 2+ years ago--might have changed) was very easy. I just emailed the SAF/IA folks...let them know I wanted to complete the MSIR and listed the courses I needed to take. That afternoon I got a letter to bring to the base Ed office that allowed me another round of TA.

"Congress finishes work on authorization bill"

"The bill authorizes payment of hostile fire pay, imminent danger pay, hazardous duty pay, assignment pay and skill incentive pay to be prorated to reflect actual qualifying service performed during the month"

    From the 2010 NDAA:

"Section 618—Proration of Certain Special and Incentive Pays to Reflect Time During Which a Member Satisfies Eligibility Requirements for the Special or Incentive Pay

This section would clarify that the monthly payment of hostile fire pay, imminent danger pay, hazardous duty pay, assignment pay, and special duty pay may be prorated to reflect the actual time the service members performed qualifying service during the month. This section would also clarify that reserve members may be paid a skill incentive bonus in the same manner as such a bonus is paid to active duty members and that the monthly payment of the bonus may be prorated to reflect the actual time served in a critical skill."

So...this means that if you leave the AOR on 2 October you'll only get 2 days of IDP/HFP. Anyone care to guess tax free is falling under this categoy?
