This dramaticfilm was completed shortly after the end of the War and has rare footage on US submarine operations showing subs & their crews on real missions.. There is a cameo appearance by Japanese Fleet Admiral Nagano who discusses (in English) the effect of US sub operations on the ability of the Japanese to make war. That's because the "pig boats" inflicted military and transport losses on the enemy that were far beyond their own tiny numbers. The program is introduced by Vice Admiral Charles A. Lockwood, Jr, the legendary commander of Pacific submarine forces (COMSUBPAC) and narrated by Gene Kelly. * River Patrol on the Mekong Delta. Restored ColorThe USS Harnett County (LST-821) served as a floating base in the China Sea for PCF swift boat and helicopter patrol operations in the Mekong River Delta during the Vietnam War. The labyrinthine Delta was a hot zone in the war against well organized Viet Cong insurgents, immortalized by the film "Apocalypse Now." Exciting action on swift boat river patrols & Huey helocipter gunship ground support missions. Highly recommended * Recognition of the Junker Ju 88. There's some very good Ju 88 footage here, including of one of the intact examples that landed in Britain. Charts shown in the film do a good job of illustrating the many virtues of the 60 degree delta wing. * Northrop P-61 Black Widow Night Fighters in Color 1945. Exclusive Documentary! Restored. Very rare color P-61 night fighter footage shot at the end of World War II. This is an original documentary I put together from unedited, silent archival film. Pilot deaths during training were all too frequent in World War 2, a grim fact that was kept from the public, but was a matter of grave concern to the Army Air Corps. Shown only to pilots, this wonderful film, “Learn & Live,” is a unique combination of an entertaining, sometimes surreal story line, with practical nuts and bolts safety training. Saint Peter (Guy Kibby) gives “Joe Instructor” a temporary pass to ”Pilot Heaven,” because he's concerned that so many more young trainees are coming up stairs before their time, due to ignoring procedures or excessive bravado. * Operating the Browning Automatic Rifle - The BAR. The BAR is one of the legendary weapons of the Twentieth Century. First introduced at the end of World War I, it served in all theaters of World War II, was widely used in Korea and was not fully phased out of the US arsenal until the 1970s. Used as both an automatic rifle and light machine gun, it added extra punch down to the squad level, where every man was trained in its use just in case "the BAR man" was put out of action. * We Flew the Mig 15 with Chuck Yeager. In September, 1953, a North Korean defector handed over the first Russian Mig 15 to fall into US hands. This was a momentous occasion because the Mig had proven to be a worthy adversary for the North American F-86 Sabre in the skies over Korea. The Mig was immediately subjected to comprehensive testing. You'll see Chuck Yeagar and other top test pilots putting the Mig through it's paces and hear what they learned, along with a point by point performance comparison with the F-86. Nice footage of the Mig's armaments too. * Clark Gable's Combat America. Exclusive Restored Color"Combat America" was produced, written, directed, and narrated by Clark Gable while he was on assignment with the 8th Air Force, developing a gunnery training film. Though it packs plenty of very exciting color combat footage and doesn't flinch in showing high cost of the war in the air, in many ways, it's as much a warm home movie as a hard bitten, wartime "information" film. Gable flew bombing missions with the 351st until he was ordered to stop by "the Brass." The inspiration for this original Zeno's Waterbirds documentary is a silent 8th Air Force information film showing 8th AF P-51 gun camera film shot in the snow covered Winter of 1944-1945, with brief unit IDs for each pilot. We've restored the video, added sound effects from real P-51s and included photos of most of the featured pilots with additional info and pictures of their Mustangs. *A Day with the A-36s in Color. (Restored with exclusive additional footage.)The A-36 was the ground attack variant of the P-51 and was known as "the Invader," "the Mustang" or "the Apache." This is very rare combat footage of an A-36A fighter-bomber squadron in action in Sicily. I compiled and edited this unique extended restored color version of the film using multiple sources. The A36A was equipped with the Mustang's original Allison engine, as opposed to the Rolls Royce Merlin adapted so successfully in the high altitude escort versions, which worked just fine for low level work. This is a simulated low level, long range attack launched from Carswell AFB in Texas against Edwards AFB in California. This dramatic, high impact documentary film shows some of the most memorable, exciting, and extensive footage of 5th Air Force B-25G bombers conducting tree top level attacks with machine guns and delayed action bombs to come out of World War 2 .The first step in the reduction of Rabaul was the seizure of a string of Japanese bases along the Northeast coast of New Guinea. The film focuses on the decisive and revolutionary impact of the air component in the strategy, including high & low level attacks, parachute drops, and resupply. * Recognition of the Focke Wulf FW190 Fighter. The FW 190 was many Luftwaffe ace's favorite fighter: fast, heavily armed and maneuverable, with an outstanding roll rate. One of the highlights of this film is a mock dog fight between a captured 190 in RAF roundels and a P-47 Thunderbolt. This "recognition" film was produced for the RAF, but was probably also used by the US Army Air force to train their pilots as well. Very good FW footage here. * There is a Way: The 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron 'Fighting Cavaliers' and their F-105 Thunderchiefs in Vietnam This is the best documentary showing an Air Force unit from the Vietnam War.
