  1. This no Shit happened about a month ago...

I walked through security with a 6 inch switchblade in my backpack... The lady in front of me had a bottle of water and the TSA agent turned into a counter terrorism expert. They literally were threatening her with the repercussions of breaking a federal mandate, and here I am walking through with a fvcking switchblade...

I don't know much about the FFDO program, but with this kinda support team all you commercial pilots on here might wanna start looking into it!

  2. This is my understanding, correct me if I am wrong. I believe if you put the time and effort into it, you can get a guard slot, which is a guaranteed slot with whatever you want to fly. Anyone else hear this?

You might want to consider Army though. If you are in college they have been giving "Unlimited" amounts of full ride scholarships, as long as you can qualify for retention standards. Basically, these scholarships are being thrown out like candy until the fiscal spending is changed. At my school I know of at least four kids so far, activating full rides.

  3. If you feel motivated do it, but just know that if you ever want to change your major there are not that many options. And, most of them are course specific, so its really hard to switch over. That being said, the det here is amazing, and the cadre literally will jump through hoops to help you succeed.

  4. I flew with Luftansa this last summer, and in Greece they didn't even screen us. We walked around a metal detector and were asked if we had any weapons. We transferred from Germany to Philly short afterwards, and while I was at Philly I had a pair of nail clippers, a disposable razor, zip ties, and my 4oz bottle of soap taken because they were not clearly labeled. This was the same group of people who were trying to get an old man in a wheel chair to stand up so they could screen him! Where does TSA find these people!?

On the kids thing: I know a couple who gives their Kids Dimetapp or Dramamine and knocks them out for the whole flight.

  5. Weather question...

I have a dog I go running with every morning. Will we have to get up at 4 am to beat the unbearable heat or do you get used to it?

From a college student who lives in Goodyear/Avondale area (ten minutes from Luke in the "unsafe area" ha ha). It does not get too hot until about nine a.m. in the summer months. The hottest times in the days are usually the afternoons around three or four.

Any more questions I might be able to help you with?
