  1. Gentlemen,

I respect your right to have strong opinions and to express them – but I'm a ignorant douche who has no idea what I am talking about.

  2. Hey guys,

I had a quick question, are we allowed to wear any ABU certified boot to FT? The boots my class were issued are extremely uncomfortable and I bought my own and was allowed to wear them throughout the year with no problems. In the FTM it just says "Boots, combat, black or sage green w/ ABUs"

    Thanks

Maybe. If you are willing to risk it. I would recommend just breaking in your boots and buying some good insoles. Not doctor Scholls, but Sole Insoles which allow you to mold them to your feet. I bought a pair for my boots and they rocked. Remember, depending on what you are doing, you might end up having to trash the boots after camp. Not really worth it if you buy them.

Second part, is how willing are you to stand out? If you can accept the constant attention CTA's and FTO's for most of camp, do it. You might luck out at a camp where they just don't care.

  3. you don't chase shoplifters in retail... i've worked for a big box electronics store. Try and prevent them from getting out the door anyway shape or form, but then be ready to file a report, the police do a damn good job of getting them if you did your part to get a description. Probably can even tackle them inside the store, but once they are out the door, file a good report and let it go. These companies are prepared to deal with shoplifting losses. It happens at least once a week at most stores, you try to minimize it, and awards are given to stores that lower the amount they have stolen, but the corporate headquarters knows there will be losses due to theft. Not worth an employee getting hurt over the merchandise. It's just merchandise.

Friend of mine got let go from best buy a couple years back when he stopped someone from stealing two playstation 3's.... Sad, but 100% correct.

  4. Knew plenty of non-AAS guys (including myself) who got flight slots, even some who quit the candidate process. Knew AAS people who ran into the grades problem, etc and had to drop the program. Haven't read the AFROTC AFIs in 6-9 years, but I'd be willing to bet the only requirements to commission are along the lines of security, grades, medical, etc. Sure, AAS can help if you do XYZ job in it, get noticed as a hard worker, etc. Any other job will do just as well, including the guy who hardly participated in any non-mandatory activities since he was commuting, working, and studying so much. Guess what? The commander noticed he was keeping his grades up and using good priorities/time management and he ended up with a pilot slot. Bottom line, if it's a choice between AAS or possibly not commissioning, there's no question. Beyond that, you'll have to feel out your commander (sts) and see if he's the reasonable type (hopefully) or if he is hardcore about being an AAS/ROTC nerd ( disclaimer to any cool AAS members).

I made it through AAS training, stayed in for a year and realized the majority of the program IMHO was gay.. Most the people at my det who got pilot slots were non-AAS, because they focused on the important things. Most of the arnie dudes had their grades suffer because of all their involvement.

I know a lot of dudes who are in AAS who are good guys, but don't feel pressured to join the frat.

Just keep your grades up, don't stab your bros in the back, and keep your image pretty clean. You'll be fine.

  5. EDIT: I hope this guy can pull it off, but Col Kittinger's jump 50 years prior is still more badass IMO.

    2. The dude got choked by his own drogue shoot nearly died, and still had the stones to freaking go higher!

  6. CIA's A-12 (SR-71 predecessor) unclassified history

Pretty good read and photos for the single-seat A-12 - CIA version of the program.

It is a CIA site, so enter at your own risk for black Suburbans showing up at your house...(Omegas for Steve D.)

"You've never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3." - Paul Crickmore.

I know this veers off of the history a little bit, but this site is dedicated to finding all the old x-plane crashes. Pretty interesting stuff.

Another, is the Hunt for 928. A couple of guys hunt down a crashed A-12 outside of Groom Lake.

  7. I have done it, and I really like it.

I want to work out at this gym at least once in my life. These guys train Olympic athletes and also got the cast of 300 into what they looked like in the movie. Intense stuff.
