Name a good 19AF commander in The last 10 years. I'll wait. If they aren't fucking people they shouldn't, they're busy ruining UPT, hunting down meme page admins, or witch hunting at the squadron level.

Something's in the water down there at Randolph.  Or maybe it's just the collective dumping ground for the community rejects from the rest of the Air Force.

    Wills!

That T-6 that Patty flew is at CBM. Talking to the FCF guys there, it always has problems. Apparently it was over-G’d constantly during her demos.

    Huh.

Apologize for my ignorance, but why the F was she ever allowed to fly an AF plane during airshow demos? Or did this particular tail not belong to us at the time?

If, as you say, they're making $400-$500k/yr for a "part time job," then $350k is a low ball offer, especially after the tax man takes his cut.  I can certainly see the guys who were planning on bailing anyway, jumping on it as they run out the door.  Who knows, you may even get guys on the younger side who take it and go get hired elsewhere lol.

Do UPS guys keep decent medical in retirement?  If so, I could see that sweetening the pot a bit.  As an example, during covid, they gave the early out pilots 58 hours/month for 3 years and medical (as if they were employed) for 2 years.  That's closer to $700-$750k in pay spread out over 3 years plus whatever the medical is worth.

It’s truly a part time job making that much as a captain, yes, especially with the amount of OCV those old farts have available to burn every year at their tenure. Unfortunately this “low-ball” offer is probably as good a deal as UPS is gonna offer these select few. Down side is they have like 2 weeks to decide.

Yes, they offer a retirement medical plan, and it’s actually not terrible, especially for those who won’t have tricare as an option.

Seems like a low ball early out offer.

Many crusty old Capts there would agree with this statement, but I along with many in the younger crowd say F these guys. They’re a bunch of greedy MFers that don’t seem to remember how good they have it making $400-500K per year to literally work part time, and will have an industry leading retirement afterwards to boot.

If an extra $350K in their pocket won’t make them happy, I don’t know what could.

Stay safe kids and don't make fun of a certain NAF on the insta, or ya get an article. yee yee!

Said individual finally retired (good riddance btw). Is his replacement carrying on his tradition of butt-hurtness now too?

These “leaders” in that NAF make horrible decisions and have such thin skin about it…grow a pair and own it!

    So glad I’m out!

You need to throw your hat in the ring for big jobs like Exec, CAG, DS, stuff like that.  We need more pilots willing to help move the ball forward in the office, not on the flightline.  If you want to get promoted, that’s your ticket- stay where you are at & become an invaluable desk jockey.

Nah, but you can have the pick of the litter from the nonners! Most have a boner for that kinda stuff anyways and frankly are better at it.

I’ve yet to see wings fall off or engines explode.

A few years back at CBM we had a wingtip just outboard of the aileron snap off during a 2-ship G-warmup turn…jet rolled uncontrollably for a moment until the IP recovered it. (Not a wing falling off completely, I know).

Also had a FAIP and his student hit a vulture going up initial that caused an engine fire, completely scorched the bottom of the jet. Had they not immediately put it down they would have had to punch out at the rate that fire was consuming the back end of the aircraft (much like the IP who punched out after the birdstrike/ensuing fire that burned thru the hydraulics/flight controls on that 2-ship LL at Vance a few years ago).

A lot more happened within the couple years I was there, to include some fatalities/very-near fatalities. I loved every minute of flying that airplane, but yeah, it’s time to see that thing gracefully retire. Sad that the AF procurement system can’t stop F’ing the football like a group of monkeys…

Everything is all or nothing with the military and until there is a reasonable chance of change happening or a reversion to logic and sanity, biding your time but minimally complying with insane / immoral / questionably legal policies that the AF leadership is pushing is a viable morally acceptable COA

I get what you’re saying, but this is why we’ll never have nice things.

I have the memo signed by him somewhere in my Outlook that dictated minimum diversity numbers for each class that forced the registrar and myself to re-flow every class to meet the new standard.  Ironically all of the classes at the end of that FY were all white males because we didn't have anyone else left.

It’s disheartening to watch the minions take it in the rear all because some CC wants to advance the DoD’s latest flavor of the day agenda in hopes that it will advance their career; only to leave behind a swath of destruction that leaves the boys to pick up the broken pieces when they finally leave (while said CC skates into retirement and probably some cush contract job).

…the story of the modern day military in a nutshell.

Seems like a weird comment. Trolling? The data shows that back in your day the promotion rate to O-6 was 45%. Today the promotion opportunity is 50%. Also today, most pilots are promoted within the same competitive category, so they’re mainly competing against each other and not the bigger Air Force.

Unless the military downsizes big time, the promotion percentage to O-6 has to drastically increase in the coming years…the eligible pool continues to shrink by the day.

I remember a decade ago as an Lt seeing how even the promotion boards to O-4 were a huge deal…I literally just had to fog a mirror and have a pulse when it was my turn.

Looking at those videos it seems to me that both are the result of buffoonery on the pilots part. Assuming the animation and radio call timing is accurate (big assumption),

I think a DA-20 flying up initial at Pueblo moves about as quick as that animation of the UPS MD-11 going around, so, yeah, I’m gonna say that animation is just a bit off on the timing…

    Agree.

False.  One man standing up for what's RIGHT turns into a bunch of men standing up for what's right.  It's called leading.

While it’s nice to sit here and pontificate about people leading a rah-rah grassroots upheaval of the queep; having watched this show 69 times already over the past 13 years, you and I both know full well this will NEVER happen in this particular context.

I am not so sure, with Biden being allowed to return to the scene of the crime, his lawyers, not LEO, finding more classified tells me this Special Counsel is already giving a double standard.  Hur's first action after appointment should have been to have LEO search all properties and residences and he certainly should not have allowed Biden into that house until that task was complete.  But that's just me asking for fairness and an equal standard of justice.

Rules for thee, but not for me…

Unless there's some force shaping in the near future, does this really change anything about the 99% promotion rate to major? I can see it being an issue at the O-5 level for some that have accidentally stuck around.

Force shaping? LOL…welcome to 2022 bro, it’s called an airline hiring spree. Anyone left in the 09-12 YGs who stuck around pretty much only need to be able to fog a mirror…

It’ll never happen but they should take the U-28’s getting retired IVO the same time the B-21’s start flying and use those as companion trainers. You won’t have any TOLD concerns, reliable as hell, and I’d suppose that the PC-12 is a better companion trainer than a supersonic white rocket.

    Nowhere near as fun though!

Just me - Don’t care what they think as it’s more of a reward than a labeled privilege. It’s been a “privilege” to serve, serve others especially before serving yourself, hence service before self. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice for those who have been granted the freedom to serve themselves throughout their entire life and nothing more. I as most on here have served or continue to serve and now make no mistake I serve myself just below the highest authority like any civilian for the most part does. Not even in the same food group as apple’s to oranges. If you take your oath seriously it’s above and beyond what most can comprehend. Once again, personally don’t care what they think and have come across a few uneducated in life aspects. If ever challenged in any capacity just roll with it and state, “like you I enjoy the freedom provided to serve my SELF, my family, etc at no real cost.” A bit strong or blunt, but it gets the point across. Do not succumb to “privilege.”

*Not to hold up in a court law by any means as it is in reference to what others may “think” so it’s emotional based only. Company and Unions will do what they do it is what it is.

As a mil guy myself, selfishly, yeah, it would have been awesome to get a line number in advance like that.

But my point was that the civilian background guys probably aren’t gonna see it that way and would raise hell within the union over the fact that one particular demographic is being given an “unfair advantage” (probably the term I should have used originally instead of “privilege”) in gaining seniority over others before stepping foot on property.

I’m sure the reason we haven’t seen this happen (and won’t) is because the companies/unions both want to avoid the lawsuits that would inevitably ensue.

I think the closest thing we’ll see for now is what companies like Delta are starting to do by formally announcing initiatives to give out CJOs a year in advance.
