  1. A caution: Please be careful how much info you tell about these other people in a public internet forum.  Right or wrong, it wouldn't be difficult for an average joe to figure out exactly who all of them are with what you've given...yourself included. (for example, no need to tell who's a swinger and who does camera porn...completely irrelevant to your story).  I know it's your freedom of speech right to do so, but we also have a moral responsibility.  Please don't disregard that.

I think it is valid. The SSgt slept with the TSgt all in the same timeline. Being in the military, being a swinger is irrelevant. SSgt and TSgt are just as guilty of violating the UCMJ. The value of the SO that does Cam Porn is relevant if you've read the other posts and tie his connection to that members security clearance.

Lastly, this attempt was clearly to go nuclear to hold the the system accountable across the board. Az never posted this here, only responded. These posts seem pretty calculated.

  2. I'm not sure about anyone else but I, for one, am fvcking sick and tired of this latest trend of people (trolls) derailing/hijacking threads to whine or have a personal back-and-forth with an individual about their personal bull shit/dirty laundry. KITFO and take it off the thread. Have your slap fight via PMs.

To be fair, this started with some personal attack which is a bit ridiculous.

Anyone have any insight on if this is getting kicked around up top?

It says that. But has anyone here ever seen it on their report or someone else's after 60 days?

Yes. We've seen people do this at March and actually lose the card. A CC can approve an account one more time if you've broke the 120 day mark. If you go thru it again, you'll be banned indefinitely. If you go through the proper channels and address it, you can get big AF involved before the 120 days. Messing with the collections and company on debt owed isn't the AF problem. Its ignorance to think they'll protect you.

  4. Fly,
Sorry to hear about that. However, I'd exhaust every option available before you make a decision. Go visit a doctor on your own time, start working out, walk in the woods or try meditation. Stress effects us all differently and there's no shame in looking for ways to help release it. After all, you're admitting the problem, which is a good first step. If you've done all that you can and you're dead set on getting out, I'd imagine they're going to either a) make you see someone so they can prove it or b) ask for paperwork from a doctor you've seen. Either way, you'll be laying down on a couch.

This is pretty solid. Everyone has battles man. I think you know the opportunity you have at hand. Don't burn it until you know what's truly for you. Sounds strange to some, but fear of the unknown can mess with your mind as much as almost anything else imho. I'm not a doctor (obviously) but I can't imagine going through this process without having stress and I can only imagine what that does to your mental and physical health. Stay strong man. Seek help. Even if it isn't for the military or aviation, health is you and your families number one priority.

  5. How does one eliminate themselves for the AFRC, if they have a medical condition come up after swearing in but before in-processing? I had a friend who simply did a dd214 and was on his way, but that was a couple years ago. What is the best way to proceed with that?

Fly, you want to opt out? Or you have a medically disqualifying issue? For the ladder you need to just say the issue. For the former, If you want to opt out you can. Self elimination is a thing at UPT at least. Idk what commitment you have to the military prior to OTS. It if it's medically disqualifying they'd probably thank you.

  6. Dude that washed out of my OTS class got sent to BMT and was enlisted. You don't become a SSgt, doesn't work that way. Idk what the commitment is at that point. After OTS any failures I believe is a 4 year commitment. But that doesn't matter. More important factors are what you'll need at OTS or training questions.

  7. Good evening ladies and gents,
So, here I am, just signing on for a six year contract at an airlift squadron for Aerial Transportation (2T2X1) and I've run into a slight dilemma. So the squadron I am currently on with is an airlift squadron, were going from 130s to 17s in 2018 and that sounds super nice. However, a squadron not TOO far away from me flies F-16s and I've always love the idea of flying fast jets and they have alot of boards for folks. Here are a few questions to throw out to the experience masses:
    1. Would it make me look like an ass getting on with one squadron just to leave them for another squadron later on down the road?
    2. Would it be possible for me to become an officer THROUGH the other squadron? As in, would it be possible for me to go to the 16 squadron to the board and apply for OTS AS WELL as UPT? This is my main question, I'm curious as to if I can move from my current squadron as an enlisted to the fighter squadron as an officer-selectee and UPT candidate.
    3. Any 16 guys want to talk about their life experience? Same for the 17 folks as well.
When it all comes down to it, I wouldn't mind flying with my squadron if I get the opportunity too. But I would love to have the chance to fly F-16s if I can.
Thank you guys for your time.

    1. You already signed and started your commitment? You may be stuck. If that's the case you need to call MPF to see if you're eligible.

    2. Top Gun looks cool. But it's a lot of work. If you think you have it in you and that's your personality and you've done your research, been around fighter guys and mesh with the unit, then apply. Got a degree? Take the AFOQT yet? Those are gonna need to be completed. Have any flying time? They're going to at least ask you why you want to fly. How do you know?

    3....I can't answer 3. Good luck man!

  8. There's definitely a shortage in fighter pilots across the entire force, to the point where even top brass are calling it a "crisis". How that's actually going to affect fighter drops in UPT, I'm not sure but I'd venture to guess that they'll at least drop more 38s. If you can secure a reserve sponsorship though, that'd probably be your best chance, but I can't personally speak of the differences between AD and reserve flying.

Also, based on what I've heard, many of the RPA drops are going to T-1 guys.

16-08 grad here. Each class has 2 RPA's and they went to Toners. Confirmed.

  9. And to clarify my inquiry, until recently I heard of people being able to fill out their UPT base "dream sheet" so to speak, with most preferred to least preferred base and they generally got what they wanted although in some cases it was luck of the draw. Does that still exist?

Ah, well I think I vaguely remember active guys at OTS filling that out. (They also had enjppt boards) When I was picked on my AFRC board I had OTS, IFS and UPT dates all along with my acceptance email. Now this was 2014... But you have a good shot of getting laughlin just with the percentage of pilots that go through there.

Here is a good start and I could be totally wrong but I haven't seen a request process. You surely won't be asked if you did nothing.

  10. I understand there used to be a process for this but now everything is coordinated through the 340FTS and things may have changed. Does anybody know how to request a specific base for UPT?

I don't think that's a thing. Wasn't ever a process I was aware of, unless you have family that have needs (EFMP) that can't be met by one of the bases (I.e. Laughlin because it's a sh!t hole).

  11. So if I graduated before 1 December, and may be interested, does anyone know how it works.

Im guessing I have the normal Herc prog tour then maybe possibly, if I am interested, my unit applies for an opening?

It'll be available. They'll contact you when they can process anything but until then you just gotta keep trucking.

  12. I'll take your word for it. I wasn't even given the option to sign it. I did ask about it after I had swore in and they said its not something I would have to worry about for another few years.

I imagine there is probably a new memo floating around that more clearly lays out what is going on.

You would... Wouldn't you? But there isn't. It actually is this vague for anyone. If you make training dates with the signature I wouldn't even look back. Most likely your training is paid for and you're old news to AFRC.

    That's a good thing.

  13. Question regarding the new temp-Art deal:

As a very recent UPT graduate, I will not finish my FTU for a few months, will I have to ask my unit for a baby art job? Or is it kind of implied that I will "get one if I want" based off of this memo?

my my question is, does it depend on how bad the unit wants to fight for one of these jobs for new studs on their prog tour or is it thought of as a sure thing?

How recent? The way it's been explained to me you can count on it. But not forced. I grad my FTU in October and my hand isn't forced into anything but it is an option. I can tell you every career reservist I've talked to is screaming "don't do it". Every palace chaser who is tasting freedom is saying "it could be worse and you have a guaranteed paycheck". For the latter question, they won't have to fight for these positions. They're temporary positions offered to try and keep folks around.

  14. I'm a guard bum so maybe we're coming from different areas but I get more hours (a lot more, 450ish in the past 12 months) than any of our full-timers.  And after all the deductions (insurance, bullshit retirement plan, etc) I make more or less what my ART buddies make.  Maybe I'm missing something or it's a Guard vs Reserve thing but in my mind that decision is easy in our current environment.  There are some life factors like kids or living paycheck to paycheck that may make ART more attractive but I think for most troughing is a better deal.

As to how that plays into the bigger topic: 6 years?  Wow that's a long time.  I probably would have been ok with it when I was begging for a UPT slot but with some perspective, no way.  This is only going to reduce the quality of the applicants in the long run.  Unless as bb17 says, there is more to the story.

Well I'm new to the game and have been asking every question I can about this. The six year becomes four after you get qualified from how I'm reading this. So for airline wannabe pilot guys like me I have to calculate how long will it take for me to compile the hours for PIC and eligibility for the airlines. While posted minimum requirements may drop, that doesn't mean everyone that meets mins will get the jobs. Maybe I'm being too reserved as well as you mention avoiding paycheck to paycheck being that I have 3 deps on one paycheck for now. I have a lot to learn about troughing as well. This could also be huge in comparing fighters vs MAF.

But bottom line, taking the ART slot doesn't limit your pay if you're willing to work mil on the side and balance. I guess my bottom line is maximizing income as well as hours and finding that happy medium. If I'm missing something by all means spell it out.

  15. You can be more active than a "1 weekend a month" guy. There are ways to double dip and make the pay worth it. You really need to do your research on this one. I know for me, prior E it's a struggle. Locality increase for a GS-9 is still under 80k for almost anywhere. Rumor has it if you take an ART position at any point you'll be released from this contract... If you're trying to go airlines and don't plan on going regionals idk what else your options are. Troughing can only get you so many hours.

4250 B 6. Lodging receipts are not required, but proof that lodging costs were incurred shall be required. The fixed rate per diem may not be reduced further even if the actual lodging costs incurred are less than the lodging portion of the reduced per diem.

This is EXACTLY what I was saying. A member in our class told them this is "a misinterpretation".

    2 minutes ago, Bojangles said:

Is this Altus finance telling you this? What they say shouldn't matter anyways. If you are TDY enroute then this will be part of your PCS voucher and will go to Ellsworth for processing. They see so many of these vouchers that I'd hope this still isn't a problem. If this a normal TDY from home station then it'll be your own unit approving this.

I've been out of the financial services section for a bit so maybe things changed but that was copied from the current JTR.

As this is becoming the standard, they've told him "We'll pay accrual vouchers as such, but your final voucher will be corrected and a debt created". Which made no sense to me, thus you have this post. Regardless, Most people that are I've talked to don't know about this, so they're pouring cash into Crash Pads because they think its use or lose money, even with a Non-A. Some of the individuals are looking to get out of their situations and find cheaper long term rentals.

  17. Alright, I'm asking a question that is beating a dead horse... But here we go. At Altus, currently the Finance office has stated the standard interpretations of Para 4250 is incorrect. The interpretation that many of us have had is the flat rate is yours regardless of lodging costs. If you have a non-a, flat rate is $105 a day, besides the official days of travel do you not just get $105, regardless of lodging costs? I understood this to be the entire point of the flat rate, being that it motivated the member to find cheaper lodging. Some individuals in our class have lodging for less than $60/day and planned it that way accordingly. Any finance folks on here, or people who think they understand this better, care to clarify?

  18. PPL should suffice (again I'm not on he boards but it worked for me). I said experience more like prior military experience. That's the wave of hires I know quite a few units are looking for.

    http://www.guardreservejobs.com/newjobboard/

Websites like these have good openings. We do a really bad job as a community of fixing things such as "how to get hired" once we move on. If you get hired you instantly have a new focus on the next stage. Each stage you will have hundreds of questions and this forum is the perfect start, even if it means asking the same question twice.

No I wouldn't say it's an elitist club but I think you've found the right place to start hunting.

  19. With the times right now almost all units are hurting for experience. A lot of aircraft commanders have left for the airlines or gave up full time slots. I'm not saying "nobody is hiring off the street newbs", but just that knowing the times may require patience.

I would absolutely say going through recruiters just doesn't work in Operations (IMHO). I was referred to online websites even from friends in high places. There are a few websites that give contact info out for units that are advertising needs. I'm only being vague because I honestly don't know the current needs of the squadron or others for that matter for UPT/new pilot hires.

  20. I've been told they really like STEM degrees. Is this correct? And do you know how many flying hours did those other candidates have?

The two civilians that were hired both had licenses already. One was a commercial seaplane pilot with 2000+ and the other just a PPL working on his instrument rating. I don't know any of their school information though. I had a PPL and ERAU degree. I can honestly say I don't think their degree meant anything, but I'm just a lil co-pilot.
