1. SocialD I know two people who “retired,” and months later were told, “sorry, we messed up when we thought 2+3=7, so you still owe 2 more months of duty to retire. See you on Sat for drill! Oh, and you’re also overdue for a PT test, plus you might as well expect a piss test too”
It's really sad how inept these personnelists are. When I applied for retirement they denied it (months after applying and already using up a ton of saved leave with my replacement in the seat) saying I was short by over a year. I sent them back their own audit plus my calculations doing all their work for them and they realized their up. Retirement order generated that day as someone with half a brain realized the extent of their error.

  2. Wait, you mean calling legislation "The Inflation Reduction Act" when it does nothing at all to reduce inflation because it increases the production of money and spending on A LOT of things...

Unfortunately, it's a very effective strategy when you have an uniformed and ignorant electorate. And a society becoming ever more polarized after digesting headlines, soundbites, and echo chambers of "unbiased" news and information.

The IRA is a huge steaming pile of garbage that even the most ardent Ds should struggle to defend.

  3. This is all said in jest. The IRA had little to do with inflation and was named by San. Joe Manchin. In exchange for his vote, I would have let him name or whatever he wanted! It is a clean energy and healthcare costs law, and a good one at that IMHO.

Looks like Manchin sees otherwise and probably would have named it something else in hindsight.

In case it's behind a paywall, link goes to an opinion piece by Manchin where he says the IRA is "policy and political malpractice." As well as "the administration seems more determined than ever to pervert that law and abuse existing authorities to increase spending."

Some Ds can call a spade a spade.
  4. It's a mania for sure. And I have to admit I've recently been adding options on to many of my more speculative plays. F'ng WSB got me all excited about a market short YOLO this spring which I think everyone is well aware of how that all played out. In the ensuing mania I made so much more back even though most of my TSP and 401k assets remain in cash. This market has confounded me since March so I'll just lurk and be grateful when folks keep the politics out of the "investment" discussions.

Okay, I'll allow myself one pleasure...

    BCRX to the moon!

  5. I am not saying I would slob a knob for 50k but I know some folks who would.

You know some folks who would? So like your buddies that talk about how much $ they'd need/want to "slob a knob," weird.

But yes I agree that all you mention is bad juju. If that's what you're saying.
  6.

TIme for my boy to start shaving so I'm getting him one of these -

But when I was divorced and out of money, it came in handy paying 10 cents a week to shave.

Good for you to give him a different perspective than the marketing he's bombarded with. Plus it's just a better shave, WAY less expensive, and doesn't take too much additional time.

  7. I was joking with you. I'm not the one cursing and screaming like a 5 year old in timeout. *Your constant bitching serves no purpose here.

If you saw me in person Duck, I would slap the taste out of your mouth little man. I would have no problem telling my CC why I did it either.* If you are going to be a little bitch, then don't post. Take your bottle of breast milk to your room.

God ing dammit I'm getting sick of these douchey Chang-like trolls on this forum!

  8. Importantly, this logic won't work with every rule.  "You can't wear a reflective belt, you can't hack a combat mission" is bullshit because there's no correlation between the two.  However "you can't handle your liquor or know you own limits or plan a backup plan, therefore I can't trust your mission judgement" is completely plausible.

Both of those statements are bullshit. Someone's going to get shitfaced on a mission?

Think about a professional athelete who does something stupid in his/her off-time. They usually get a fine or suspension but their ability or judgment on the field or court or whatever isn't called into question. And the whole team doesn't have to wear diapers.
  9. Ever called BS to your boss and been told to STFU and color? I'm not saying that's what happened because I don't know, and no one that's posted on here knows the full story.

You bet I have, and many times I've busted out the crayons. But the times when I've been told to do things to or directly affecting my subordinates I draw the line. That's my decision, and if my boss (or boss's boss, etc) disagrees with my choice then they can have me replaced. Yet to happen, but maybe it would if I were in PJs shoes.
  10. This guy is a class act. He's one of the few leaders in the AF actually worth following. I know several people that he's went to bat for. He gets it. I think it's more of a situation where someone on high got involved and "highly suggested" alcohol be temporarily banned after a few made some bad decisions.
    Spears welcome.

I completely disagree, in fact it shows a lack of leadership and courage if he didn't have the will to push back to "someone on high." Instead he's made it clear to ALL his people that he doesn't trust them to be responsible. Not something that subordinates respect or make them want to follow.

  11. Everyone, especially the studs, should boycott and gtfo of work asap everyday and head to Wild Childs or some other adult establishment. There they can party their asses off, reflect on wtf happened to this AF, and learn how to never be a tool like PJ.

  12. We disagree in that my prescription is a return to the ruthless pursuit of victory and nothing else.

So what does your ruthless pursuit of victory look like, and what is the end state or definition of victory?

Excerpt from a great essay written in 2007 regarding Al Qaeda [insert VEO]:

"The point of imagining the end of the war on terror is not to suggest that it is imminent but to keep the right goals in mind -- so that leaders can adopt the policies most likely to achieve those goals. If they fall prey to the illusion that this is World War III -- and that it can be won like a traditional war -- they risk perpetuating the conflict. Even if Americans were somehow prepared, as in World War II, to mobilize 16 million troops, reinstate the draft, spend 40 percent of GDP on defense, and invade and occupy several major countries, such an effort would likely end up creating more terrorists and fueling the hatred that sustains them. It would unify the United States' enemies, squander its resources, and undermine the values that are a central tool in the struggle. Certainly, the U.S. experience in Iraq suggests the perils of trying to win the war on terror through the application of brute military force."

  13. As a member of this board since 2001, I still am amazed at how quickly a post that says "hey guys what is up" can turn into "F-you ya arrogant prick"

You're right and I see it all the time. Guess I should apologize for being a dick. Sorry, and thanks for making the effort to engage and listen to our perceived issues and ground truths.

I represent 700,000 people.  Guessing you aren't one of them. Regardless Ill look and see if I still have what you sent me.   Nice Foxnews dig...you rock

I feel like this is what I just read in this thread:

Q: I'm here to help, what can I do for you?

    A: Don't know.
    A: That's a new one, hmmmm.
A: Not sure, I'm kind of important and really busy.
A: Are you eligible to vote for me? Cause then I might act like I care a little bit more.
