  1. Its taking the AF close to 20 years just to build a 767 Tanker based on a jet first flown in 1982!, I'm not worried, You'll all be retired way before this happens.

You should be worried. Based on recent acquisition history, GOs will sign off on some multi-billion "revolutionary" technology in the name of efficiency/cost saving, push it towards FOC before the system is mature. Because you know, there are always block 10, 20, ## to fix the problems.

  2. I would never do such a thing, but the B-52 on the fake flightline was a popular place to hook up. From what I heard. I don't even know what a B-52 looks like. Or anything about the escape hatches.

That's good, because the static display aircraft are checked for radiation level annually, and sometime they come back higher than normal. Usually from the instrument panel dials.

Pilot's career stalls after criticizing oxygen system

    http://www.stripes.com/pilot-s-career-stalls-after-criticizing-oxygen-system-1.279043

In February 2012, the Virginia Guard leadership called him a "premier tactician" who was making "outstanding progress" in flight lead upgrade training that would prepare him for a leadership role. His commander wrote that Wilson was "one of my top wingmen" and a "superb officer, aviator and volunteer."

But the tone turned sharply critical -- bordering on sarcastic -- in a review written after he went public about the F-22.

It described Wilson as an "average officer" during 2012. Without mentioning his television appearance, the review, which Nardi approved, described Wilson as a "photogenic, driven and vocal officer; willing to express and share views regarding F-22A operations at all levels."

  4. Hypothetically, let's say I rename the recall roster from April999MDGrecall.docx to something like horseradish.bmp, then email that to a personal email, then rename the file back to the correct file type on my home computer. What's the chances of being busted or exposing PII?

Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk

The problem is using this TTP you are still breaking the rule set by "The Man" and you can still receive punishment if someone found it on your hard drive.

You should not get in trouble for e-mailing a recall roster to yourself. What's next? Getting a LOR for losing your cell phone with you coworker's contact info? How about LOR for losing a paper copy of the recall roster?

  5. Someone bitch about something else, I'm tired of posting the awfulness that is the new AF Cyber as I'm writing a Master's paper on a Friday night.

Do you think it's stupid if you are caught sending unencrypted e-mails with PII then your account will be locked and your O-6 has to get involved? Because what if you are sending PII to another .mil account and the encryption doesn't work?

  6. This world needs more Charley's Grilled Subs. :vomit:

But hey, Nellis food court has Denny's Express. Ironically, it's the one AF base that doesn't need exotic food establishments on base.

Btw, MCX's barbershops tend to be cheaper compared to AAFES' barbershops.

  7. Our base has a 'SAPR Day' coming up May and the base SAPR (via Wg/CC) required every unit to ID enough 'instructors' for a 1:25 (instructor:student) ratio.. these instructors have to attend a mandatory 8-hour training class. All Airmen have to attend the down day horseshit and if we're on leave/TDY we have to 'make it up'. Its an absolutely unbelievable waste of time, manpower and resources..

    /endrant

With the revised OPR/EPR format, SAPR is the new "Christmas Party/AFAF/CFC/EXEC" duty.

"#1 of 30 SAPR instructors; armed 200 human wpn sys w/ sexual countermeasures--200 sexual assaults thwarted!"

I wonder if one needs "excellent" PT score and OPRs strats to be considered for SAPR instructor.

Edited: Upgraded action verb in bullet.

  8. Did a forum search for this incident and nothing came up.

I'm sure there is more to the story than what this article presented, but talk about luck and timing...

2013 F/A-18 crash: Out of fuel, out of time and one chance to land

    http://www.stripes.com/news/navy/2013-f-a-18-crash-out-of-fuel-out-of-time-and-one-chance-to-land-1.277698

The pilot of the F/A-18 Super Hornet hurriedly flipped switches and pushed levers. The aviator in the backseat leaned forward, straining to see the flight deck floating in the distance. The jet's right engine had locked up, its landing gear had jammed, and the main fuel tank was almost empty.

Exclusive: Key General Splits With Obama Over Ukraine

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/04/11/exclusive-key-general-splits-with-obama-over-ukraine.html

"During classified briefings on March 26 and March 27, Gen. Philip Breedlove painted for members of the House Armed Services Committee a bleak picture of Russia’s actions—and warned that the United States was not taking steps it could to help Ukraine better defend itself. On several points—from estimates of Moscow’s troops to intelligence-sharing with Russia’s likely adversaries—Breedlove’s briefing directly contradicted the message coming from other branches of the Obama administration."

Edited: Added a couple of images of the gunmen and another link.

  10. Anyone have updates for this? From doing some searches on the portal, it looks like the program is no longer around. My base no longer has a library, so education office might be the best bet.

Go to your base library Call your nearest base library and sign up for Byki. It's both web and mobile app-based. PM me if you still can't find it.

    Added:

Link to the website, but you'll need to get the registration code from the nearest base library.

  11. No high paying civilian business cares about an associate degree (CCAF). If the E-9s really care about their folks, they would steer them towards a bachelors degree. But nope, it's about making sure people check the boxes to indicate "desire and potential."

  12. You were on a roll until you got to "trust the SPO". Those guys frequently need to be reminded they work for the warfighter, not Boeing or (insert your prime contractor here).

Yeah you are right. I've seen the "cozy with the contractor" SPOs, but I've also worked with the "hold contractors accountable" SPOs. I chose to believe there are more good than bad SPOs. My assumption could be wrong especially with today's AF, hence the reason why I wrote "I may be simplifying things a bit" at the beginning.

  13. From the Retirement FB Page:

After a 20 minute hold, I spoke with a TFSC customer service representative. She was very polite and frustrated with the leadership as well. She explained a few things which helped clear up some questions I had. First, even though my career field went red they still may approve me. The team processing the applications had a strategy to get the job done but has had leadership change the criteria for approval daily. This explains why there is such a random spectrum of approval across different afsc's, application dates, adsc's and other eligibility criteria. Every time they try to get through a batch a new directive comes down requiring them to apply different approaches to approval. She also stated that the numbers reflected on the new matrix accounts for a lot of people approved but that have not been notified. Additionally she said the orders and operation just kidding was a mass notification error. When they put in the orders and system changes for those who were approved, the orders and system update applied incorrect values to their records. The only way to fix it was to cancel them all then redo them individually. In an effort to save time and process a large group at a time they created more work for themselves. She stated that anyone previously approved is approved and their number one priority is to fix those first before moving forward. Which means this will only add to our wait time for some answers. Take it for what its worth , she could be blowing smoke but I am still hopeful but still extremely frustrated and disappointed that they have done this to us. They have lost my trust entirely.

  14. I don't think you've got to much to worry about being the only service sitting in front of congress looking foolish when it comes to acquisitions.

Everybody has their big pile of fail to fall on. Navy has the LCS debacle. Army has ######ed up Comanche and he future ground combat vehicle not to mention Crusader. Marines have the expeditionary fighting vehicle and it's gonna take 30 years to pay off the Osprey Karma no matter how well the thing performs now.

We as a military are ######ed when it comes to getting new stuff, just uniforms are a bridge to ear now days. Billion dollar development programs are just a bigger circus of fail.

I may be simplifying things a bit here but GOs and SESs need to:

    1. Stop believing everything they see on the PowerPoint slides. (I know the engineers don't)

    2. Push back and resist the retired GOs now working for the defense contractor (who's only as good as their Rolodex/Outlook contacts)

    3. Pay attention to the revolving door policy

    4. Don't trust the bean counters (theirs and ours)

    5. Trust the SPOviets and your technical SMEs (usually the retirement eligible GS-14s who don't give a ###### anymore)

    6. Understand if it's too good to be true, then it probably is

Edited: 7. Resist and deflect the political pressure (this is the hardest one)

I know, it's easier said than done.

  15. Liquid and other folks who've been around the af longer than I have,

Everything you've said here are true. I just think there is a disconnect between the senior dudes and the junior folks.

IG is a great resource but it should not be the first option.I Have seen too many times when the lazy worker threatened IG to see the leadership back down and cater to the individual. And everyone else gets pissed off. I personally think IG should be invoked only after you have done all you can to influence the outcome. If it is frivolous then there should be repercussions. For SOS in-res I just don't think it is warranted unless the in-res school is officially tied to the promotion process. And if it is tied to it then that's a very expensive discriminator and everyone who didn't go and didn't get promoted need to file a complaint.

Lastly, whats the official position on masters degree before I start documentation for an IG complaint?
