  1. My crew and I attended this today...not really for the non AEF cycle type folks...more a way for AEW/CC to speak about the accomplishments of AEF 3/4. Someone did raise the question about the reflective belt policy. CC said it is not policy but that he has forwarded the idea to the SQ CCs and Chiefs/First Sergeants for review….The CC spoke about his concerns for our safety with the Qataris moving their folks back to this place…he said it's not going to happen anytime soon…maybe in a few months
  2. well I wake up and find the following email in my inbox. I love how every new policy here at the Deid includes the word "encouraged". I am hoping that the Boss loses this one somewhere on his desk. It is a sad day when my awesome looking PT gear gets supplemented with an even more awesome looking reflective belt. FYI/A…Providing an update to our conversations last week with regards to the "Mandatory" wear of reflective belts universally across the installation. Originally, we were pressing for a "1 Sep 08" implementation date; however, the policy letter is currently in the coordination process and "has not" been signed-out/released by the Installation Commander. Therefore…we will continue enforcement of existing guidelines. As an additional safety practice…members are "encouraged" to wear their reflective belts during all hours of darkness, regardless of uniform/location…it is dark out there and don't want anyone to get hurt! As soon as the Boss signs the policy letter mandating wear…we'll ensure it reaches your in-basket for widest dissemination/immediate implementation…more to follow. V/r, Command Chief, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing
  3. The AEW/CC will be holding commander’s calls in the CC Theater on September 1st and 2nd at 0800, 1700 and 2100. Attendance is mandatory. I am wondering if this is where we are going to hear about the new reflective belt policy.
  4. this is from the 27 Aug Desert Eagle Dispatch here at the Deid: Customs & Courtesies (New Posting) Airmen are reminded to render proper customs and courtesies at all times and pay special attention to staff cars. Not all staff cars will have placards located on the lower left side of the front bumper. Many staff vehicles will have placards located on the windshield. Please see the photos below for examples. Airmen in uniform are required salute when these vehicles pass by. While it is not required in PT gear, it is highly desired by base commanders. The last sentence is Super
  5. as far as the phone situation...my AC and a few other guys have phones in their rooms....talk for 15 minutes, hang up, repeat....the number I use with my AT&T calling card is DSN 809-463-3376, you then get a dial tone and then dial your AT&T 1800 number....it basically charges your card as if the call was originating in Virginia....works like a champ
  6. greetings from the Deid.....well I did see the cadets earlier this week and just a few minutes ago playing ping pong while I was heading to the gym.....I will ask them in passing next time if I can remember about the HFP/IDP stuff.....also our shirt just told us that WiFi is coming in a few weeks but will only be available at the Bra and the nice permanant party dorm area.....guess we just have to wait and see
  7. "What's the URL to that post/forum? I think I want to pop in there and give someone a piece of my mind..." these folks have way too much time on their hands....these are both fairly old, found them on google under "desert penguin + 379 AEW" Enjoy desert penguin #1 desert penguin #2
  8. I am leaving here shortly for my first Deid deployment after several at Salem. I heard that Wrong Start at Salem is 2 days long now, how long does that mandatory fun last at the Deid? I am looking forward to the some of the perks (3 drinks) but I am not looking forward to the clerks at all. I remember I would always tell our new guys at Salem that you should always look at someone's boots to see what they did for a living. You could always tell those that would be first to point out and infraction-however minor-because their boots always looked straight out the box while trying to bitch someone out for looking jacked in a flight suit after flying a 12+ hour mission. I will never get it.
