They've proposed using eye scanning/monitoring, like retna trackers, with T-6 partial task trainers to hopefully accelerate an instrument crosscheck.  Sounds cool but like everything in the AF it'll be broken and waivers will be granted to proceed without, therefore it won't provide any benefit.

Iterative virtual reality training will probably be extensive in that syllabus, when it gets developed. Same, it'll break and won't be fixed.

They will have a T-6 flying portion. That will most likely be watered down to the point where my grandma could pass it because if anyone washes out that would be bad for someones OPR

**they will probably have near constant oversight from AETC HQ Read: some O-5 who is trying to make O-6

Proposed/goal for new road to wings is 6 months. It's aggressive. And incredibly stupid.  There is something to be said for having downtime to chat with bros and process knowledge and information.  I mean we can push a student through all of T-6's in 45 days (double turn every day), but does that mean they really learned anything?  Pacing matters.

Not going after Swizzle, just offering my remarks/unasked for thoughts.  In the end all I really want to know is this- What are wings worth?  If it's just joining the AF at the right time, then fine, but I used to think it was something more, like, maybe actually being a (sort of) competent pilot.

1 fighter per drop? Lol. Get ed big blue. Get ed.

But please bitch more about your fighter pilot shortage

I'm willing to bet it's in response to the B-Courses being backed up/critically manned.  The UPT pipeline is more or less broken right now, we finally got AETC to sign off on a maximum class size because we couldn't keep up with what they were trying to do.  We had to prove that until we get more manning we can't produce more (yea we all get that without more pilots we can't generate more IP's).  And from the rumors I've heard about Holloman and it's manning, I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing something similar.

  3. Can confirm.  Growlers were offered to a few Vance bubba's who were IFF complete.  Only one of them took it, the others turned it down for various reasons.  The guy who took it was an old student of mine.  Sounds like a 3 year gig out at Whidbey with a 5th gen follow on is what he was told (not promised mind you, just told).  Haven't heard anything about it dropping out of UPT though.

On the UPT note I heard an interesting rumor about the drops changing significantly for a while.  I guess the DLF OG said something along the lines of only 1 fighter per class from now on.

Word on the street is that classes who just track selected (so within the last six weeks or so, give or take) are being told that they can expect the bomber drops from T-1s that were talked about so extensively a few months ago. Maybe that's just the rumor mill, or maybe it's taken this long to get the ball rolling on that idea.

As for the reduced fighter drops, at least at CBM a lot of that lately is due to T-38 guys washing into the next class. That's been happening somewhat erratically as I understand it, so some classes' 38 drops look smaller since they might've lost some of their own guys but didn't gain any from the previous class.

Reference my earlier post about T-1's and bombers.  It's been a rumor since I was a student, hell we even had an O-5 type say it was happening a year ago.

Fair enough on CBM bubbas, but if you look at Vance as well instead of 9 fighters its more like 4 or so with others going to bombers or other places.

They had a T-6 lined up, but that just fell through.  A good opportunity for one of you T-6 instructors to jump in.

Huggy, can you PM me some contact info?  There's a T-6 FAIP in our sister squadron who I know would be interested in and is planning on applying for U-2's in the near future, so I'm sure he'll jump at this opportunity.

Apparently some of the T-1 studs who recently tracked were told that they should expect bombers in their drop. Has anyone else heard anything similar?

That's been the rumor for as long as I've been a FAIP, seen it once and it was a joint spouse setup.

Also a good rumor is that the KC-46 is gonna drop soon (been hearing that one since I was a stud).
