  1. THIS is the key! It is much easier to bitch and moan for your whole career than it is to show some intestinal fortitude when you get the chance. Be respectful, be persistent, and do what you know is right when you get the chance.

The real question is if any of the people "bitching" and identifying these problems today will be around in 10 years. My guess is no - of course this assumes there is no stop loss initiated.

  2. It sounds like something that might work in a roll call, but it's similar to the "WHAT IF" format. As in: "WHAT IF the finance office didn't have ESPN on so many plasma screens that they actually be able to do their jobs...instead of me doing it for them..." (the then rest of the SQ echoes: "WHAT IF!")

The "IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT" echo from the bros is a catchy line, but I've never actually seen it in the 3 fighter squadrons I've been in...

It was something we did at Shaw. Haven't seen it since.

  3. The Air Force did this to me...

For example: Electronic records management. The Air Force is so sure that this new system is the way to go it's getting rid of the normal common server. So, 6.9 hours of training and now I'm set right? Nope. Now I need to assign individual permission to each folder in the ERM which to do so, requires full name and CAC-in ID number - the super long number next to your name before you enter your PIN. Once all of the Ops group's information is compiled, only then can I send it off to Tx to get lost in the fax machine or eaten by the mystical Air Force qweep goblins and fairies known as shoes. And I'm not talking about the fairies you all just thought of because I've been trained on the repeal of DADT - then again, maybe I am. God forbid any new individual join the Ops group thus resetting the whole procedure and losing another 2 days of flying...THE AIR FORCE DID THIS TO ME.

  4. Doesn't matter dude, your ADP is a bit of a pipe dream. Are you a patch/wing exec/school select? If not, welcome to Korea (at best) or RPA (at worst), maybe a T-6 at Laughlin on the in between, state we live in these days.

Copy all thanks! I'll be sure to tell this to the last 3 VML's of Luke IP's who got nothing but CAF, Test, Aggressor and Exchange jobs.

  5. Anyone know where / when the CAF assignments are going to be published for the fall VML? The porch used to post their state of the community .pdf file on the COP along with the expected assignments for that VML. With the COP going away, it just says to look for it on AFPC - yea, good luck. Historically it would have been out by now. Anyone have some info?

Edit: I can never post again - this makes 69.

  6. Well it looks like your crying days may be coming to an end. Best thank your CoSAF on his decision to use non rated officers. Hate to have rated officers crying over their non flying billet fighting the war effort. I thought in officer training, you were taught officer first and pilot second. I'm old school, they must have changed their order of importance. Must keep the LTs happy. See below.

I'm not in UAV's and hopefully won't be but I feel those folks pain. The Air Force made a deal with each of us when we signed our paper work for the 10 year commitment. You let me fly airplanes and I'll be in for 10 years. We all know staff tours and other jobs might take us out of the jet temporarily, but it is borderline unethical to have someone sign on for 10 years and the USAF say just kidding, no cockpit for you...ever. Now for those who started pilot training realizing that UAV's were a possibility, I'm with you. But for those who were flying before UAV's were in such high demand I say it just ain't right. Officer first, pilot second is totally understandable in these regards if we had the standard 4 year commitment. Ask how many people with sign up for 10 years as a UAV operator. Don't think you'll get much response.

  7. From Fox News.com

The Obama administration has asked the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff to cut the Pentagon's budget request for the fiscal year 2010 by more than 10 percent -- about $55 billion -- a senior U.S. defense official tells FOX News.

Last year's defense budget was $512 billion. Service chiefs and planners will be spending the weekend "burning the midnight oil" looking at ways to cut the budget -- looking especially at weapons programs, the defense official said.

Some overall budget figures are expected to be announced Monday.

Obama met Friday at the White House with a small group of military advisers, including Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. James Cartwright, vice chairman, and Gen. Jim Jones, National Security Council chairman.

So much for new jets huh?

  8. The current theater we are in today quite frankly does not require an F-22. CAS aircraft like A-10's are what we need.

A stealth fighter does not grant us any edge against guys with RPG weaving and ducking through city streets.

Here's the thing. We aren't R&D'ing and manufacturing for today's war. If that is the case we are too far behind to catch up. We need to be buying for the next conflict, the Iran, the Strait of Taiwan, the you fill in the blank where were are fighting 690 MKI's with PL-12 which are CAPing in a SA-20 JEZ etc, etc, etc. The conflict X years from now is what we need to be preparing for and frankly, our F-15's and F-16's are going to have more than a difficult time dealing with it. More Raptors? Yes. More -35's? You bet. Don't know what briefs you've seen on the -35 but it's A-G capes are incredible.
