  1. Rage, The other "tests" I was referring to that verified depth perception were the expanded tests I had to do on my re-take. Didn't mean to give the illusion that they could pass some non-AF-verified tests. Just meant they had difficulty with the standard circle test, but could pass some other AF approved tests (like I had to do initially).
  2. Can't answer the nav question (is depth perception all that important) since I'm not a nav, I'll leave it for someone else. As far as correcting it goes, have you ever had any other depth perception tests before? I think one of the biggest problems is that stupid circle test. I've heard a lot of people have trouble with it, although they have no depth perception problems (based on other tests). I would talk to a civilian doc and see if they can give you some tests and try correcting with glasses (worked for me!). Also try those Magic Eye books and see if you can do them (I can never do them, but people have told me they help). Then when you get your re-test, they should run you through some different tests that were easier to figure out than some circles (had all sorts of shapes, etc.). Be prepared to stay an extra day at Brooks for more testing on it too (I had to, and then found out after I was done that I didn't need to). I've learned to use the circle test now, although it takes my eyes some time to adjust and see it. Just don't let them rush you, there's no time limit. As far as the waiver board goes, mine was pretty much automatic. After my Brooks testing, they submitted all the paperwork and that was the last I heard of it until a year later when it was due for renewal. After it's submitted, just keep checking in with your clinic on the status of it. Good luck and don't give up. You can always get what you want, it's just a matter of how hard you're willing to fight for it. [ 27. August 2006, 09:11: Message edited by: scawtiedog ]
  3. Had the same problem on my initial FC1, example slides looked exactly the same all the way across. Went to a civi doc and got some glasses (also found out I was 20/25) then went back and re-tested (different tests, more in-depth and easier in my opinion) and passed fine. So I would go see a doc and see if they can correct it for you, then go back and demand a re-test (don't take no for an answer). I was told by 3 different tech's that I couldn't re-test and they were going to DQ me, til I finally talked to a Flt Doc who allowed me to go back and test again (passed no problem). So just remember, if you don't get the answer you want the first time, ask again, and keep asking til someone gives you another chance.
  4. Wow, 60 days a year. I know I'll be gone at least 120 between now and Christmas, and we haven't even seen what next year's schedule looks like.
  5. Ran into this issue flying last night. Orbiting out off the coast to support the Navy guys, they started cancelling lines due to wx (took off at about 310 GW) and we knew we were going to be way too fat to land. Luckily (I guess), they asked us to orbit there the whole duration in case they could launch later, so we pushed it up while waiting. Ended up hitting only 6 receivers (instead of the usual 30) before they told us they were calling it quits for the night. We dropped our gear and flew home with the gear down to try and burn off as much as we could (only a 20 min flight home). By the time we got back we were able to work a waiver (after a half-hour of holding) and landed at about 215. Working the waiver was enough pain, glad we didn't have to worry about trying to get permission to dump.
  6. Columbus will still have the tweet when you go. They don't even have their first T-6 yet.
  7. Crash, I was in a similar situation trying to find out about contact lenses with astigmatism. When I got to UPT they said you could wear contacts flying if you had been wearing them already for a year (which I obviously hadn't since I just found out). Got set up with contacts the week after graduating (about 5 months ago) and now I wear them all the time. I've got the toric lenses and they work pretty well, no complaints so far. I can see an easy 20/20 with them, and can make out the 20/15 line if I work at it. If I were you I'd just wear glasses while going through UPT though. The contacts take a little while to get used to (especially the toric since they're weighted). So unless you have a lot of time between when you get them and when you start training, it'll just be a distraction from your flying (and you'll have enough of those as it is). Let me know if you have any questions from someone who's currently wearing the lenses/gone through the process.
  8. We just bought a house in Derby, closing on 13 Dec. We're as far South as you can get in Derby (a block away is Mulvane) and it's only a 15 minute drive max to base. You can definitely get a lot for your money. We got a 2400 sq ft house built in 2001 for 141,000. I just hit the flightline at Altus for the PIQ, so if you guys have questions let me know.
