In relation to the few bomber drops for t-1s/t-1 FAIPs, does anyone know any information on whether or not this'll be the norm for the next few classes?  I know the drops really fluctuate, but it's just interesting to see.  Thanks!

I thought the discussion a few pages back said each of those were specific situations being one-off deals. I don't think any of them were random drops out of the blue. Not to ruin anyone's hopes of course...

  2. I never used APACS traveling in Europe. Only time I used it was a trip to Egypt. pre-Arab Spring days of course. I stopped consulting the FCG somewhere between my 6th to 9th foreign trip. Unless you're going to some weird or possibly dangerous country, or on official business, it's all just standard boilerplate. Instead I relied on common sense and letting my chain of command know where to find me if they needed me for something.

  3. I had a similar problem. Short answer, you as the member can not depart your PDS until the 1st day of your DEROS month. However, there are no such restrictions on your defendants and HHG.

I was stationed OCONUS with a CONUS PCS. My DEROS month was April. I wanted to leave in March, for purely personal reasons. I scheduled my HHG in early March, asked TMO to book tickets for my defendants (wife and daughter) in late March, and I left about a week later on 1 Apr. I didn't have to cite any AFIs or jump through hoops, just used plain English to explain my PFA to TMO. They did not care. YMMV. Ask nicely.

The long pole in the tent is going to be getting your orders early enough to schedule HHG that far out to stay on timeline.

We would get more bang for the buck investing in non sexy systems like some kind of armed MC-12 or other air transport based airframe, not the nostalgic sexiness of a Turboprop fighter plane that reminds people of a P-51...

Turns out you can barrel roll an MC-12.

  5. That's a more detailed version of the argument that Pako makes in the article Nsplayer linked to above.

Hopefully we have time to relearn all our lessons from Fulda Gap scenario training before they're actually required.

    So, about that 12x bonus...

    Shut up nav.

Just kidding. the 12F manning problem is even worse than the 11F since we have a shorter ADSC. But since there are fewer of us it's not as big of a concern to the staffers.

There is a 12F bonus, but not for my year group. But I think I'm passed the point where the AF is going to offer me additional money to stay in.

Anybody have any recent experience with an ETP for color vision, especially on the guard/reserve side?  My story- Buff radar nav, got in before the new computerized color vision test.  Trying to go to UPT, but the color vision thing hosed me on the green portion.  Ironic thing is, my MFD is solid green and I have no problems looking at it.

No experience with an ETP, but there might not be anything wrong with you. Have you had flight med refer you to Optomology? The vision testers at flight med are really just for screening that something MIGHT be wrong with you. I've had success with the that route when I occasionally struggle with the depth perception test.

Also, it's entirely possible that their machine isn't calibrated correctly. I could easily see them having the screen on that laptop too dim. There was a guy in my last squadron that went long term DNIF for a vision problem. Flight med told him he'd never fly again. After fighting it for almost a year he managed to get tested at Wright Pat. Turns out flight med's machine was wrong and his vision was perfectly fine the entire time.

  8. It doesn't need the SDB II to be fully mission capable. There are plenty of other weapons it can carry that are full up. Hell, how many current combat aircraft can't even carry the SDB I? When did the F-16 get it again? Last year? It's a cool weapon, but it's certainly not a game changer.

I'm far from an F-35 apologist, but this article is total sensationalism.

  9. Why is the EFMP office even involved? Lots of families PCS while pregnant without involving EFMP and with no issues. I can't see why they have a say.

I'd harass them to get the paperwork rolling for your son. My daughter's issue is minor (speech therapy) and it was still a pain in the ass.

I wouldn't expect any issues though. Even though my daughter wasn't in school yet she did speech therapy with a DODSS therapist at the on base school at Lakenheath.

  10. Just got 3.25% and $1,100 lender credit on a VA refinance from Dave Nichols at NBoKC. Still working the paperwork process, but getting the quote and locking in the rate was quick and easy.

  11. This forum goes in cycles. There's periodically some phase of BS and butt-hurt new folks that cause an old time poster to claim the forum has declined and leave, aka Rainman for example. While some recent threads and posts might not have been the best example of officership, I don't believe our collective shit is in the street. It simply requires a minor course correction. I have always gotten a lot out of this forum. I still do, and I anticipate it continuing to be useful and educational, not to mention entertaining.

There are a number of threads that have turned into amateur-hour bitchfests. I just simply stop reading them. No one is forcing anyone to read sophomoric conversations and posts. While an argument could be made for a new sub-forum, I don't believe we need a dramatic overall.

  12. I've known several people who have ejected and for the most part there's stigma. It's easy to second guess someone's actions and decisions made during the heat of the moment, but I'm hesitant to be too critical as that could be me one day. As long as there's no gross ineptitude we all try to learn from it and move on. I like getting to chat with the ejectors since I get to ask questions and replay the decision making process, neither of which is easy to do with the investigation report.

  13. Latest is this:

    • Two parachutes, so presumably F-15D. Edit: 48FW confirms D model, but states that only one occupant on board. Wonder whether solo collar came off the command selector valve lever?

With the solo collar in place both seats still eject, however the collar commands the front seat to eject first. Without the collar the rear seat goes first followed by the front.
