  1. Here’s a serious question.  Why would someone even stay Active Duty after their initial commitment ?  What draw is there ?  I get it for the people who want to lead and are desiring O-6 and beyond. But you can even do that in the Reserves and Guard.  Why would not everyone try to get an AGR gig and pick where you want to live , get the bonus , and have a say in your life ?  I seriously don’t get it.

I think you mis-understand the argument.  It's not about Christianity.  It about the moral and ethical foundations of the country.  Our country was founded on Judeo-Christian values, principles, and morals.  In the same way as a house, if you try and move the structure off that foundation, the whole thing collapses.  Imagine Iran as a whole suddenly being forced to shift to Hindu, Buddist, or Christian values.  The society would collapse.  Same with America.  The difference being that in America, so many people have had liberty and freedom that they paid no price for, for so long, that they don't appreciate what they have, so they are ignorant to the facts of our society's structure.  There's reason Wokeness hasn't caught on in Russia, Iran, or China.  Freedom and liberty, unfortunately, often result in ignorant arrogance after a few generations.

So it's not about Christianity for Christ's sake, it's about Christianity because those values are the foundational structure of our country.

I see.  That makes sense.  The question becomes then how do you get back to those morales without forcing religion?  I’m not religious but I have those morales because I was raised to be a good person and treat everyone with respect.  The question is how does that become widespread?  There’s a huge lack of taking responsibility going on right now and how you turn that ship around is a great question.  I think the only people living in la la land are the ones saying things are going great.  I think it’s pretty obvious if we keep the current course the history books will talk about the fall of the US.

  3. Was the US still a Christian nation when the civil war happened ?  What is a Christian nation when slavery was ongoing?  Was it a Christian nation when not everyone was treated equal?  Was it a Christian nation when the Great Depression hit and the world sucked ?   The notion that the lack of Christianity and its declining popularity is the driving factor is ludicrous and just a swing a miss to try to get more followers back and get money back to the churches. Overall the world is a much better places than 50-100 years ago but there’s obviously new challenges.

  4. I just went through the waiver process for a L5-S1 and it was pretty straightforward.  Mine was technically a bulge but in the Air Forde waiver process they treat it the same as herniated.   A lot of it depends on whether you need to get surgery or just PT.  I just did PT and had to wait 3 months to submit a waiver. The waiver was approved within 2 weeks and I am back to flying ejection seats.  Even at 8-9Gs I don’t have any pain in that area anymore so there is light at the end for y’all.  If you have questions send me a DM.  From what I was told those lower back issues come back quicker in waivers than neck problems.

  5. It boggles my mind that people are actually making decisions about staying in or getting out based on this crappy “bonus that is not even close to the amount it should be. Either stay in because you want to or jump ship and make more in the outside world.  If the “bonus” is making you stay in you probably need to reevaluate your life choices.

  6. Not buying it was a suicide jump.  He just happened to wait until they had a gear issue to decide to end it ?  More likely is he fell out trying to see the gear especially since he was brand new and didn’t know what he was doing.

  7. As a fighter guy who recently transitioned to the airlines I think it needs to stay 2 pilots. There are a lot of moving parts in the airlines and having 2 people is super effective.  Add in the constantly changing schedules and redeyes and you need the extra set of eyes.  The other part that isn’t talked about is safety.  We lose planes a decent amount in the Air Force.  When was the last time you heard of a major US airline crashing from pilot error?  Think of the lost revenue from people switching airlines because of a single pilot induced error. That airline would quickly go out of business because the public wouldn’t book on them.

  8. I fail to see the benefit of this.  So you’re gonna put someone through 1.5 years of training for a 3 year contract ?  The pay isn’t much less than a FAIP and then you can have that body for 10 years. For a staffing issue this is a terrible idea. But is anyone actually surprised?  The incompetence from “leadership” continues. The “different pot of money” argument is dumb and a cop out.

  9. I just left USAA for auto insurance.  I bought a new car and figured I’d call around for rates.  I couldn’t believe I would save 40% by switching to Geico for the exact same coverage.  No complaints so far.

Way too many variables to know how long to a WB.  When I was hired I figured it would take 10 years to hold a WB...I ended up getting it at 2 years.  Right now, I think it's sitting closer to 4 or 5 years, but it could go way junior (or senior) on the next bid.  In the current environment, anything is possible...whacky times.   I can't really tell you what to do about the SWA vs DAL decision.  On one hand, I never want to commute (I left another legacy to not have a commute), on the other hand, I'm not sure I'd want to do the type of flying SWA does for an entire career.

Delta can't do much about your MLOA, they have to honor it  Dropping a trip a month isn't really something that would even get a second look.  How long do you have left in the military?  Are you planning on staying put?  Personally, I wouldn't make a career decision based on a mil commitment, especially if I only had a handful of years left.  Plenty of jobs available all over the U.S, especially if you're willing to stop flying and just get across the 20 year line.  I talked to another FO today that was doing a non-flying CAP gig to finish his 20.  I know a few others that hung up the G-suit to do RCO and AOC gigs.  I hate being full time in the guard, so I'm always looking for minimal commitment on that front, so this may not be what you're looking for lol.

    Edit:  Also, what Tree said!

I have 7 years left and only really doing it because I found a great part time flying gig. Not so much for the retirement.  How does Delta differ from SW if you were flying domestic NB?  Is it just less hops with longer layovers ?   Thanks for the info.

When rona started, I displaced all the way down to 717 FO so I could be senior.  Many months, I'm working less and make more as a 717 FO than I did as a 330 FO.  The ability to work your schedule as a senior NB FO, allows you to easily close the pay gap if you so choose.

At DAL, as long as there is appropriate reserve staffing (almost always was pre rona...not sure now), then you can drop your scheduled to zero.  I'd drop my entire schedule every month I had a line when I was a WB FO.  Then I'd pick up more efficient trips when I wanted to fly.  Worked the same amount if days as originally schedule but made a lot more money.  Good living while it lasted.

How long once Delta keeps hiring at their rate before you can hold WB?  I’m trying to decide between commuting with Delta or living in hub with Southwest. Does Delta have a problem with dropping mil leave, say once a month , to drop a trip?

  12. Wide body and international flying.  What are your opinions based on experience?  Obviously you’ll make more money long term. Pros.  Cons.  Has anyone been able to bid this and stayed NB and just done domestic flying ?

also, which airlines allow you to drop the entire schedule and build your own to maximize pay?

I actually have no idea what is going on with SWA. Just getting back from a trip with no signal, min turns, and max duty days...so what's going on/the truth?

Up to 30% of their flights cancelled this weekend. Major news sources pushing it was because of pilots calling in sick and vaccination strikes.  Sick call numbers published showing completely false and the flight cancellations broke down from Manning being below the required number to be able to handle any sort of weather or delay issues without causing huge rippling affects.  No one fact checks anything anymore. Just push any news that fits their agenda and it’s annoying and doesn’t seem very reputable sources around anymore that are on TV.

  14. SWA - what a perfect example of how fast misinformation spreads and how quick people spread it to try to push their agenda.  What a sad social media world we live in when this is our reality.  Nobody wants the truth. They want confirmation bias.

I’ve heard (but can’t verify) a new round of invites are going out from the previous window. Still doing 2x30-member classes in Dec, beyond that they’re either being tight lipped or don’t know, and that’s coming from a buddy on the hiring team. We do know they have ~250 of the final pilots out on the extended leave to bring back in Jan/Feb plus they’re trying to correct an imbalance by upgrading FOs, so wouldn’t be shocked if there are small (or no) numbers of new hires those months. Then by March it should be on like kong…so if all that guessing is right then I’d spitball the next window would maybe be in Nov. One thing that’s abundantly clear is they’re way understaffed currently for the schedules they want to run, so it’s a good bet there’ll be movement sooner than later!

Will they use the last window to continue to send invites out until March or will they close it completely once they get the 120 and you have to reapply ?  Is this the last round to go out ?
