  1. So to provide actual feedback to the OP instead of stupid jokes - 

    The good news is that you're 25 so you have plenty of time to make things work out. Your GPA and AFOQT/PCSM scores are all a bit on the low side. They might be good enough for an AD board - I'm not really sure what those numbers typically look like so maybe somebody else can chime in on that.

    It is great that you're applying to the upcoming OTS board - I really hope it works out great for you! If not, don't get discouraged. You have some time to finish your PPL and retake the AFOQT/PCSM to really get your scores up there. Your GPA is really low, but you have a good story to back it up. I went through a similar situation actually with my mom passing away like that so my condolences for having to deal with that. The problem is that its hard to convey that story in a resume or cover letter. You do seem to have excellent extracurricular experience and good recommendations, so definitely focus on all the strong points you touched on in your post. What I learned throughout the application process is that they care about a lot more than just scores. Good luck!

    Yeah the funny thing about it is that I'm sure plenty of people would be glad to take the offer as a means of having a full time employment. So to force a 6 year commitment on somebody when a lot of people would probably gladly take it anyway didn't seem to make a lot of sense. But based on what I've heard from talking to people in AFRC - there is likely enough demand for you to participate a lot even without the ART commitment.

  3. Your degree and GPA are probably fine. Theology sounds like a pretty unique degree as far as pilot applicants are concerned. Your AFOQT and PCSM scores are really low. I think the average on the board I was hired on was over 90 for PCSM and 80's and 90's on AFOQT scores, and it was a fairly lenient board in my opinion, due to low number of applicants - and this was pretty recent. Everyone had a PPL too I think.

    My recommendation - study up and take those tests again and work towards getting a PPL. Although if you're applying to the February board I guess you're kind of stuck with what you have at the moment. See if you get picked up, and if not, work on scores and PPL.

  4. Awesome response - thanks! How exactly do AMC (TACC?) delegate work to ARC squadrons anyway? Do they just divvy up the necessary missions between various squadrons, and then the squadron figures out the manning of their missions internally, or something else? My experience in visiting tanker squadrons is that they basically just have a big white board with all the allocated missions for the month and people just write their name in based on their availability (I probably don't have the full picture of how things work). I wonder with such projected demand for the KC-46 if they would implement something else. 

  5. Anybody know what KC-46 deployments are projected to be like? They are replacing KC-10's in some squadrons and KC-135's in other squadrons. My understanding is that KC-10 deployments are usually 60 days while KC-135 are 90 or so - would the KC-46 be one of those or somewhere in between?

    That's cool to know. Do you know specifically how they would make such arrangements? Did they have employees or business partners they would delegate work to? 

  7. Hey folks. So I'm headed to UPT pretty soon and in the meantime I'm trying to plan ahead for the future. I'm an engineer by trade and for the last 10 years have been working in an office. I have no desire to have a full time office/desk gig ever in the future again, and I'm working on getting into some independent consulting (out of my house) on the side after training when I'm not doing Air Force stuff all the time. Just curious what other small businesses traditional reservists/guardsmen have to work on in their free time. I have seen a number of realtors and flight instructors, but I'm curious to see what else people have done or are doing and how successful its been. I'd greatly appreciate whatever input you could provide for somebody in that situation, such as dealing with clients when needing to go on a TDY or deployment, or whatever other situations a TR can find themselves in. Thanks for your input!

    Those are right by Ingram Park Mall which is a pretty ghetto area, and also right off of a major interstate, but not an especially dangerous area. Good news is that there is a nice greenway trail head right by Ingram Park Mall that is a nice 12 mile bike ride straight north to the Six Flags / UTSA area which I highly recommend if you're into biking. 

    Also right in line with the runway at Lackland so you might enjoy some planes flying over as well although they should be high enough to not be a noise issue.

    Don't know the answer to your question but I live in town, so if you need any recommendations let me know! Have fun with the C-5 squadrons at Lackland - awesome guys there for sure!

  10. If it makes you feel better I had to reschedule mine twice. First time was because the AF couldn't schedule my enlistment in time to get me to the September class, and then I got bumped to January. Then I had to personally bump that back due to a medical thing that came up and I'm working through at the moment. Not that I am happy about it but that was the situation I found myself in. So I am waiting on my new date. In both instances they didn't give me a hard time about it, although they might try to push you a bit since they do want to fill classes up.
