  1. I am non-prior heading to AMS in a couple weeks. Just got all my uniforms issued. The blues coat has absolutely nothing on it. I do have the 'US' insignia for the lapels and the metal name tag. Is it supposed to have anything else on it? Also, my laptop doesn't have MS Office installed. Is it still worth it to bring it along? Should I buy the software? Thanks!
  2. Sitting in the Dayton airport on my way home from Wright-Patt. I asked about this and was told that we won't have access to our IQ scores until after we have finished UPT. So I guess there's plenty of time to look up a phone number.
  3. GoDucks, Thank you for the quick reply. Do you think a different lens might work better, or should I just go straight to glasses? Since my doc seems to think this is as good as it will get with contacts, should I get a second opinion?
  4. After reading through lots and lots of vision info on this forum, I find that I am still a bit apprehensive about my eyes. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Here goes... I was recently fitted by my civilian eye doc with my first pair of contact lenses (soft Biofinity Toric from CooperVision). After several check-ups, it seems that all is well and the fit is good. The problem is that my left eye (the worse of the two) is still a little blurry when trying to read the 20/20 line for both near and distant vision, even with the lenses on. My doc says that this is the best I will get with contact lenses. My prescription reads as follows: SPH CYL AXIS O.D. pl -1.00 092 O.S. +.25 -1.50 086 I don't really know what any of that means, except that almost all of my problem is astigmatism, and that (I think) I am right on the borderline of -1.50. I have read through all the waiverable limits, etc. I read on one of these posts that the visual acuity (i.e. 20/xx) is rarely a show-stopper, and that ultimately they are looking at the refractive error (i.e. -1.50 astigmatism). Is that accurate? Today at the eye doc I missed 1 letter in the 20/20 line with my lenses on. Would that DQ me at Wright-Pat? Also, regarding the previous post, I know my uncorrected near vision is worse than 20/20, and I would be lucky if it is 20/30. I think it is closer to 20/40. Is this going to DQ me? I am 28 and have never worn glasses/contacts before now. To me there is a neglible difference in my day-to-day life with/without the lenses. I got picked up in April to fly C-130's, and am awaiting my FC1 date. If I run into a vision waiver, I will then most likely also run into an age waiver, which would be a severe pain in the arse. Any thoughts, insights? Thanks in adavnce...
  5. I've seen this touched on, but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I have a dental implant for my right front tooth. Does anybody know if this will be a problem in my FC1?
  6. I recently took an enlistment physical at an ANG base, and for the vision portion, the tech wrote 20/40 for both near and far vision. I don't currently wear glasses/contacts, but I will need them to pass the FC1, so I am in the process of getting some. I have recently had my eyes dilated/refracted by my eye doc, so I know that my vision is within regs, and I shouldn't require a waiver. My question is, will the fact that my enlistment physical says 20/40 prevent me from being able to schedule my FC1? Or will I need to retake the vision portion while wearing lenses to show that I am correctable to 20/20 in order to schedule the FC1? Thanks for any advice, and for all the advice you have all already given me.
  7. New user here. Lots of valuable information on this forum, thanks to everyone who has posted. I have seen this question asked already, but have not seen a response. Here is my situation. I am a 27 year old civilian - already pushing the upper age limit for age requirements, I realize. My far vision is around 20/40, but the problem is so is my near vision. I think I will require surgery for a UPT slot. I have two interviews next week at two different ANG fighter units. I understand that there is a 1 year waiting period after PRK before my FC-1. I also understand that the processing for an ANG slot often takes over a year. My question: Can I get PRK now and use this time as the recovery time? Would I be able to go to AMS before my 12 month recovery time is finished? Or will I not get the slot based on the fact that I need a year from now to recover, making me (just about) too old? PLEASE HELP!! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -Varmint
