Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Zeno's Warbird Video Drive-In Big July 18th Anniversary Newsletter Hello World War 2 & jet aircraft fans -- It's seems like only yesterday, but it’s been 18 years since I launched Zeno's Warbird Video Drive-In https://www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com web site in the summer of 1997, featuring four aircraft videos (P-38, P-51, B-17 & B-24) streaming at 28.8 kbs dial up speed at 5 fps in a tiny 160X120 pixel window. That's Stone Age tech by today's standards, but before YouTube, it was a big deal & we were soon featured as "Site of the Day" on CNN. The rest is history! You are invited to stop by & celebrate our 18th Anniversary at Zeno's Warbird Video Drive…

I graduated in 2011, so it's been a while. But I remember going to Little Kitchen just off base on weekend mornings, occasionally being served by the same person who had entertained us the previous night at the Pony, and I thought they had some interesting decor on the walls. One of these items, located far in the back of the seating area (as far from the front door as I recall), was a framed printout of a poem. All I remember was that it was something about old soldiers no longer being so bold or no longer wanting to go to war, or something like that. Now that I'm out, it's been on my mind. Can anyone there do a little recon and post either the text or a photo of the pie…

WestJet today introduced a new state-of-the-art money-saving feature on board all flights aimed at countering the rising price of jet fuel. Effective today, WestJet will be using air mixed with helium in the ventilation system to lighten the weight of the aircraft. Helium is approximately 85 per cent lighter than nitrogen, which accounts for 80 per cent of the air we breathe. With a maximum takeoff weight of more than 150,000 pounds, adding helium to the air mix will provide fuel savings of approximately three to four per cent on board WestJet's Boeing Next-Generation 737s. This will, in turn, allow WestJet to pass the savings on to its guests. https://www.westjet.c…

So I was thinking to myself while riding the elevator, wouldn't it be sweet to have an F-16 roller coaster. Basically, the person gets in the cart which is a replica of an F-16 cockpit, they get in and buckle up and there is even a canopy that closes on them... Next, the ride consist of a mock F-16 ride (Of course, what else would it do?). The ride will consist of F-16 maneuvers, from dog fights to vertical climbs and even some upside down action. Could even take it to the next level and have another track unconnected to the riders track, with a fake bandit going around as if you were chasing it in a dog fight. The two carts will get so close that they look like…

Just curious as to what some of you find interesting non rated career fields to be? In other words, if you weren't a rated guy, what would you have done or what would you be? I think intel is at the top of my non rated list, but I'd like to learn some more about other AFSCs. I have been reading on the afpc site for those wondering. ready, go

I did a search and couldn't come up with anything so if this is a repost I apologize in advance. I have been out of the game for a while but I made a pretty penny with Apple (AAPL) back in the 2003 time range. I told myself to buy Ford (F) back in 2010ish when it was down around a $1.00 a share but never went through with it...and I will always regret not buying. But now Apple is back in the $94 range since it just had a 7 way split and I am contemplating getting back in. While I don't think Apple is the power house has been for the past 5 years I still think it will go back up a decent amount (probably not $700-800 sadly). Any other favorites out there?

In light of our recent livening things up, I thought I'd start a thread that contained the funniest radio calls you've ever heard. These must be real. I know we have done this before, but I'd like to hear some new ones. Dover Approach: Attention all aircraft, previous controller no longer a factor.

I will even buy you a beer. I did the search to no success, but this is always something I've wondered. Anybody know the story (or even a tall tale) about the origin of "him! him!" when somebody kicks it?

Curious where everyone trains/shoots. Lucky enough to be in an area with lots of Forest service land and can pretty much have no limits on what type of shooting/drills I can do.

Hey all. I'm a guard dude. Building time at my first 121 gig (regional) and have my apps out to the majors. Frontier just announced a hiring window and I'm wondering if we have anyone from there on these forums that I could talk to. Me: Civilian chief pilot and DO experience, obviously Air Force pilot, speak multiple languages, over a decade of civilian work experience including management at successful startups (including one to IPO). So I'm a fairly driven guy with some unique experiences. However I'm still pretty low time and the Legacy's won't give me the time of day. Again, mainly looking to talk to Frontier guys right now to learn more about how I maximize my app du…

I had just finished doing morning PT at my college when I reported to a running class about an hour later. I was lucky in that I did not have to wear a uniform of any kind to this class, and that I could blow off some steam. It was a particularly cold Texas morning, and I remember having the chills until I started running. All of the sudden, someone ran up to our group as we were doing some cool-down stretching, and she said that an airplane had hit the World Trade Center. I immediately thought in my mind that this must have been a mistake, and how it might have been a single engine aircraft that did not cause much damage. The class broke early, and we glued ourselve…

Since it’s been about ten months since the pullout from Afghanistan and the failure of wearing reflective belts and having our PT shirts tucked in to achieve total victory, has the shoe clerk moved on? Or is he/she doubling down? It would be unusual for your typical martinet to be introspective and re-evaluate his/her choice of leadership style but who knows.

Situation: Three Co-pilots co-sign a leese to rent a huge three bedroom home...no homo. Property manger finalizes the lease on Wednesday, "John" moves in all his stuff on Thursday and settles in before deploying Tuesday. Tuesday morning rolls around, Adam gets a call from the property manager saying, "You need to vacate the property, the home owner doesn't allow roommates." Silence ensues. A meeting with the property manager reveals that the female owner of the home, an officer in the Air Force herself (probably pilot), understands that it sucks you are deploying and can't move your stuff, but "I don't care, get out of my house by 1 Feb." -All three roommates signe…

Can't imagine how thsi one could fail.... https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,531940,00.html?mrp Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, is lining up the King of Pop's children for a world tour as The Jackson Three — despite family members accusing him of trying to "exploit them like Jacko." Former Jackson Five manager Joe is said to have approached Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year old Prince Michael II — known as Blanket — to hit the stage next year. But one of Jacko's familymembers is said to be "livid" at the scheme, which will add fuel to the bitter custody battle for the youngsters. Jackson’s biographer Ian Halperin said yesterday: "Joe wants…

So there was an aircraft that struck a light pole while taxiing. Here's how we are going to fix it. Rant: Tell me again how this will determine who's going to have another taxi incident? Instead of beating up all the guys that aren't dinging wings. How bout we focus on flying again instead of all the ancillary bs.
