No OPSEC: everywhere we go generally makes the news so kinda hard to be sneaky, regardless.

TDY rates vary drastically based on aircraft availability (down for maintenance or upgrades), your crew position, type of aircraft, the lunar calendar, your astrological sign, and world/domestic politics.

Right now, the C-32 is busy doing lots of work with the midterms. The C-40 has some overlap with midterms and also has been busy ever since Russia vs Ukraine and China vs the world has been heating up. I can't speak as much toward the C-37 since I don't have a lot of overlap with their squadron, but I imagine they are busy, too. November will be very busy for everyone.

At the end of the day, you're an Uber driver...but at least it's an Uber Black.

Is this comment still accurate for the 89th and the typical missions of the various airframes?

Also can anyone speak to the application/interview process and how competitive is it actually? We get the pdsms and I know a few dudes that didn't get call backs, but there's certainly mystery around the numbers on total applied vs interviewed vs selected.

That is somewhat correct, they have just moved the board to line up with the SCOD, and there will be 2 O5 boards this year due to the SCOD changes. Nobody says big blue makes logical decisions some times. The O-3 SCOD was too close to when the MLR got the  prf’s.

Yet another reason SCODs are dumb.

Any idea how far back it will be moved? Nothing on myfss indicates the timeline for the 16YG.

Edit: Disregard, found a note that says Jan/Feb 2025. Wonder if that means results now won't release until Dec 25 instead of Jan 25?

If you’re too dumb to grab your booze before starting your shift or after it ends…maybe you shouldn’t be destroying more of those braincells? I don’t agree with the why behind it, but I also don’t see 2200-0600L sales restrictions being unnecessarily burdensome.

Because there's times you alert at 0400 to show at 0500 then fly a 17 hour day (fragged for 10) due to various delays, and the entire crew could really use a beer after that.

  4. Because f*ck anyone that doesn't work a normal day shift schedule.

No more late night beer runs — AAFES to end overnight alcohol sales in 2024

In a move aimed at suicide prevention. stores on Army and Air Force bases worldwide will stop selling alcohol after 10 p.m. Beer, wine, and spirits will only be sold between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. at all Base Exchanges, Shoppettes, Express shops, Class Six, and other stores run by AAFES.

  5. One thing to note is the BRS has 5% match. So you don't want to max out early in the year but forecast a percentage each month to allow for at least a 5% contribution in December. Make it roth since most our pay isn't taxed. And max out now. You can't miss what you n3ver had.

Lastly the I fund offered is terrible. Heavily weighted towards japan which has been stagnant for 3 decades and other allied partners who don't have much better track records. Use C and S only.

Maybe I’ve been shielded by being in the fighter squadron, but every TDY I’ve been on I’ve been in mission critical status before and after. The last deployment I took my squadron on, I made sure we wouldn’t have to deal with any GTC shenanigans and put all the FS folks mission critical. Is that not usual?

For a heavy unit tdys are constant and non-stop. You can easily go weeks or months between crossing paths with another dude in the unit. Theoretically our sq could keep everyone on mission critical 24/7 but the reality is we go tell RA if we need it and then it's done.

Yup, but it will never go away.  It kicks back a shit ton of money to the bases.  Damn the time/drama/waste associated with it.

It kicks back 1% to the units.

But guess what? We have the only travel card in the modern day that charges you foreign transaction fees. So for every crew on the road you get a net 0 back (1% extra cost for foreign transaction VS 1% back).

Their conversion rates are also trash. They randomly close cards and don't notify members as well.

The only good thing is they give people that can't get cards (and shouldn't have then tbh) something to use. And then when these people screw up and go months overdue, there's no insane interest.

  8. Statement from EUCOM on the incident.

"At approximately 7:03 AM (CET), one of the Russian Su-27 aircraft struck the propeller of the MQ-9, causing U.S. forces to have to bring the MQ-9 down in international waters. Several times before the collision, the Su-27s dumped fuel on and flew in front of the MQ-9 in a reckless, environmentally unsound and unprofessional manner. This incident demonstrates a lack of competence in addition to being unsafe and unprofessional. "

For several years the DAF has masked advanced degrees from Major and Lieutenant Colonel promotion boards. I have repealed that policy effective 1 January 2023. I do not believe that as we assess the development and potential contributions of our officers, that we should hide the acquisition of valued expertise from promotion boards for any rank.

The United States, and specifically the Department of the Air Force, are facing foreign competitors that include the most technologically capable and well-resourced competitor we have ever confronted. We are also confronted by multiple competitors from vastly different cultures than our own. To compete with China, Russia, or other potential threats, the Air and Space Forces must incorporate new technology more rapidly and effectively than our competitors. We must also have a deep understanding of the history, motivations, doctrine, and thought processes of our potential adversaries.

To do this effectively, we need leaders and supporting staff throughout the DAF at all levels who have deep expertise in emerging technologies and their applications to military operations. We must also have leaders with expertise in the cultures of our potential adversaries. Such expertise and associated critical thinking skills are developed from many sources and experiences, including advanced academic degree programs.

I'm aware that there was a time when an advanced degree, any advanced degree, was considered necessary for promotion to Major or Lieutenant Colonel. That is not the intent. Advanced degrees are neither a requirement for promotion to Major or Lieutenant Colonel nor a guarantor of promotion. The DAF will continue to value both operationally and educationally derived experience and expertise and will always value high levels of performance.

I will instruct promotion boards to understand and appreciate the value of specific advanced academic degree awards, military training completion, and operational experience with respect to the developmental category meeting the board. Officers should not pursue an advanced degree simply to impress a promotion board or to check a perceived box. Advanced degrees should be chosen to meet personal and professional goals, with an appreciation of the value the specific degree has to the Department of the Air Force.

I don’t think anybody is defending him; they’re pissed at the bigger picture this situation highlights: completely one-sided (politically) actions by the govt vs. conservatives while the same people simultaneously ignore/cover up /minimize egregious shit on the left/tied to the left.

If you (royal) can’t objectively see how much the federal govt has turned against conservatives in the last 6 years (including indirectly by ignoring left bullshit while doing the opposite vs. right), you’re willfully ignorant/complacent. The American people cannot be OK with this, even democrats should be pissed. The govt should serve all people, not just the ones that identify with a certain party.

I believe the old adage "If everywhere you go smells like shit, maybe it's time to check your shoes?" applies here.

There's currently no evidence or verifiable study that republicans are disproportionately tried/prosecuted. There's plenty of evidence (enough to prosecute) that many Republicans have committed crimes. If evidence came to light for a Democrat I'd hope they're also tried.

Here's a fun starting point of this "disproportionate" action if we want to continue  whataboutisms.

What are the odds this turns into a queep discussion about whether or not paperwork was done correctly after Trump declared a bunch of shit de-classified?

Assuming that's the defense they go with the question will be,

Does the prosecution have to prove it was still classified and no process to declassify it took place (and what is that process?) or does the defense have to prove it was declassified (and they're not retroactively saying that)?

No legal expert but assuming the whole innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Is "I totally declared that declassified" but there's no paperwork, notes, videos, audio, witnesses etc. reasonable enough doubt? Is that enough for someone to have doubt that it's legit vs retroactive CYA for law breaking.

Also if that defense does hold up and doing so somehow does count what are the actual National Security implications? Is this material now accessible to the general public via FOIA request? It theoretically should be if unclasses. Remember TS is material that would "cause "exceptionally grave damage" to national security if made publicly available."

    Edit: Apparently may not matter.

"But whether the former president actually declassified the documents may not ultimately matter. The Espionage Act, for instance, does not distinguish between classified and declassified materials – unauthorized retention of any document relevant to the statute remains a crime. "

When’s the last time a federal agency raided a previous president’s home? And would you please answer CH’s last question.

Look, I’m not defending anybody here, but holy , we just watched something unprecedented in our country’s history go down that has, until now, been a staple of banana republics and communist regimes. Meanwhile the plethora of left organizations and figures who have been glossed over/swept under the rug is astounding. Here’s the major problem: there is no single standard, and when that doesn’t exist, you are looking at weaponization of the government along a party line. That’s the shit that happens in China, Russia, NK, etc. - not the United States of America.

Lock up Trump? OK sure, if he’s convicted of something that warrants it by law. But no ing way if you also don’t go grab the Clintons, Biden, 90% of congress, all of Epstein’s cohorts, probably tens of thousand three letter agency bureaucrats, etc.

Regardless of personal political beliefs, stop accepting a pass for one party’s peeps while cheering on witch hunts vs. the opposite party. If you’re not on board with that, then kindly off out of this country. I think you probably agree with that statement - but your words/approach communicate otherwise.

And now the strawman argument comes out.

You do realize South Korea, Iceland, Taiwan, and France have also tried and found former (or current) leaders guilty. That's not even looking at parliaments, etc. Just heads of state.

I'd argue it's situational. Yes it's a banana republic thing to use your power to stay in power. However, it's also a sign of a progressive nation that it can hold current or former leaders accountable through a fair process.

In this case if you think an FBI led by a republican (trump) appointee asked for and executed a warrant and authorized by a moderate doj head (who I'll note was recommended by Republicans as center enough to fill a Supreme Court justice slot not 6 years ago, so he probably isn't a magical boogie man) is trying to tighten the reigns on power akin to a banana Republic...

    Bless your heart.
